Brandy As Precious?

I am sure you had to re-read the title, but it is true. The author of the book version of Precious, Sapphire, was actually told that pop star Brandy would be great as the role of Precious — a 350 pound Black girl from Harlem. Sapphire revealed to Entertainment Weekly, “This one producer told me he had found Precious – and it was going to be (singer/actress) Brandy. Excuse me? I literally almost hung up on him.”
While I like Brandy — it is absolutely inconceivable for her to play Precious. I am shocked that someone had the audacity to pitch Brandy to Sapphire. Thankfully, Sapphire had enough integrity in her work to pass on that one.
Sapphire also reveals that Madonna was interested in producing Precious – she passed on that one too.
Whew — two dodged bullets! Lee Daniels eventually obtained the rights to the project and the wonderful Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe landed the role.
Wow, just think of how many movies have been ruined by casting someone just because of their popularity and not if they fit the role. I’m not naming any names…
I really want to see this movie…however I think its terrible that this movie isn’t coming out to everyone…at least not from what I’ve seen! And there are toooo many small corners of the world where there are black girls…girls period that need to see something like this! And the casting is what is should be…
I glad that the role was’nt given to Brandy. No, hate for her; however, there are many people out there who are overlooked because of who they are, not ever giving the chance as others who are popular. I am glad that Sapphire is the one who’s playing the role of Precious, and I am looking forward to seeing the movie. I hope that many of our people support the movie when it comes out as well.
Let me say this, as an actress in NYC. I went to see Precious yesterday afternoon at 2:15 because it was Sold Out over the weekend and I am glad it will open nationwide. The casting was perfect and my sister that played Precious was incredible. Monique gets the award for acting….I was weeping at the end of the film. NOW….just forget the brandy idea…that’s not even worth talking about. Much success to a well worth the wait film.
I can not believe that this movie is not showing everywhere. I am from Columbus,Ga and it will not be showing here. Why?
The reason the movie is not showing everywhere is because they didn’t expect anybody to go see it and now all the people that turned the movie down is looking stupid! and by the way(A BIg Butt and a Smile) Beyonce is a good actress and when she does get a role she does the damn thing!

Honestly I am a due hard Brandy fan and I thunk it would have been great for her to play the role if Precious however I am proud of the woman that did get a chance to play the role as well… FYI Brandy would have done a good job check out her acting in movies like” Double Platinum” and “Cinderella” even “Moesha”.

I can’t understand why this movie isn’t playing everywhere! Don’t yu want every lil Black, Mexican, or white overwheight girl to see this movie? I true struggle.
