Freddy Krueger is looking for Black folks

After remakes of The Last House on the Left, Friday the 13th and My Bloody Valentine 3D, it’s no surprise that a remake of the original Nightmare On Elm Street from 1984 is in the works. The Wes Craven classic went down in horror movie history with the dream-haunting villain, Freddy Krueger, becoming a pop culture phenomenon.
The real shocker is in the casting call: they are asking for African Americans between 40 – 80. It’s good to see Nightmare on Elm Street is getting with the times because the 1984 version included no people of color (not even an extra!) and even in the second and third versions the Black folks were killed off before you could remember them. Are even horror movies feeling the Obama effect?
The casting call on Craigslist.org reads:
Hello! Joan Philo Casting is searching for African American females and African American males, ages 40 to 80 (and all other ethnicities males and females, ages 20-years and up), ASAP for a wonderful, realistic scene on Tuesday May 19th to work as non-speaking paid extras. We are especially searching for elderly African American women. This is an all day scene (a normal shooting day is 12 hours and sometimes we go a few hours longer). We feed you lunch (wonderful lunch) and you do get paid. The pay is standard extra rate for the city of Chicago. You won’t get rich but you will have an entertaining story to tell your family and friends. Yay!

Well, these are only extras so let’s hope we will see some color in the cast. Also, if you are the city of Chicago and get chosen as an extra – let us know how it went!

I can’t do scary movies but movies like: planet of the apes, tranformers, starwars , startrek, disney, rated g thru pg-13, television sitcoms & commercials, nothing magical or too tragical, almost anything (from ashy to classical)
I ain’t feeling this because Craiglist is no joke. We might be looking for those black folks for real.
Very cool-as an aspiring screenwriter I’m encouraged. Black people have arrived in a big way and it’s about time! HURRAY!! If I was in Chicago I would have checked it out just for exposure or to meet someone who might have connections.
