Should The Queen Go Blonde Again?
Published by Miki Turner on Sunday, July 27, 2008 at 10:42 pm.Word on the boulevard is that the producers of “Hairspray” are penning a sequel to the successful musical that introduced the world to Nikki Blonsky, John Travolta as Hollywood’s newest drag queen and Queen Latifah as a blonde.
None of the original cast–including Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken and Zac Efron are contractually obligated to do a sequel, but New Line is hoping that all will agree to re-up for the film that Warner Bros. would like to release in July 2010. According to Variety, the story would pick up where it left off with the Turnblad family (Blonsky, Travolta and Walken) adjusting to their new fame.
Latifah, as Motormouth Mabel, was one of the highlights of that flick. “Hairspray” was produced by the same team that guided Latifah in her Oscar-nominated role as Matron Mama Morton in 2002’s “Chicago.” The Jersey native will next be seen in Gina Prince-Bythewood’s “The Secret Life of Bees” with Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson.
Although she won a Golden Globe and a SAG award for her performance in Nelson George’s “Life Support” last year, 2008 was not a good year for the Queen on the silver screen. “Perfect Holiday,” a film she produced and starred in tanked at the box office; as did “Mad Money” with Diane Keaton and Katie Holmes and “What Happens in Vegas” with Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher has made $79.5 million (not necessarily a success by today’s standards) to date but got no love from the critics.
And on top of that she was seriously injured earlier this month in a scooter accident in St. Thomas, V.I.
Hmm. Could it be that blondes do have more fun? Think about it Queen.

HER CHARACTER IN THE MOVIE HAD BLONDE HAIR THATS WHY SHE IS ASKING SHOULD SHE GO BLONDE B/C SHE WOULD BE AGAIN IF SHE DOES THE SEQUEL, DUH! YOU PEOPLE ARE DUMB
i agree wit kim people just make a big issuse out of nothing
Um… what does the color of her hair have to do with her movie success or just her life in general? Come on y’all, find something better to write about lol
Ladies,
Why all the name calling? It’s really unnecessary. Do you realize that is the main reason black women are so criticized by everyone. Please stop perpetuating stereotypes by making nasty comments.
Maybe BET could have asked the question different. It is misleading. But they got us to click on it! And that’s what they wanted.
Besides all the drama Queen is a beautiful black woman, so no matter what color she is rocking someone will always want queen for movies, music, etc
Well I like her hair brown, I mean look at her she is really rocking it, don’t you think so? But even if she does change it to blond it would still look good and she could totally rock it too
I have been a Dana Owens fan for years and I think the queen is one of the finest black woman in the world and it does not matter what color her hair is.
