Movie Review: ‘The Haunting in Connecticut’
Published by Clay Cane on Friday, March 27, 2009 at 12:00 am.
There is a haunting in Hollywood, full of horror movies with bad scripts, melodramatic acting and a running time of excessive boredom. These films need an exorcism expeditiously before the entire horror movie genre is destroyed. So, we have The Haunting in Connecticut, the story of another suburban home haunted by dead people and the stubborn family that refuses to leave.
Set in 1987 and allegedly based on a true story, Virginia Madsen (Candyman) plays the mother of a teenager who is battling cancer. The teen experiences graphic visions of eyelids, burnt people and some horrible costumes from the 1920’s — all of this is chalked up to side effects of medication. Nope, it is dead folks from the Flapper era who are still getting jiggy in the Connecticut home and have no plans of leaving.
The Victorian house the family lives in was once a mortuary– no wonder the rent was so cheap. Spiritual chaos ensues, lights flicker, doors slam and dead folks make surprise appearances with overly dramatic music. Every bad horror stereotype is amplified — choppy editing, dark reflections, random foolishness jumping at you and a simplistic plot. If you can solve 0 + 0, you can predict the ending.
The Haunting in Connecticut isn’t even a movie that wants to be good. Furthermore, what is most foolish is the stupidity of the characters. At one point the audience huffed and puffed in frustration saying, “Why are you still in the damn house!” At the same time I thought — why am I still in this movie theater?
This is a flick to not see in the movies, on DVD, Netflix, bootleg, online, or even on the USA Network after midnight. The Haunting in Connecticut is another example of bad filmmaking in the horror movie genre.
The Haunting in Connecticut is in theatres nationwide today.

i thank that movie was the crazyiest jonit every and finally we had a movie made in ct but i don’t this but. mizz_shy
I did not see this movie and I really dont want to since it looks like the same plot I’ve already seen. The haunted house where normal people TRY to live comfortably And the ghost aint havin it. It may have been scary or had parts that made you jump but so did the AmittyVille Horror. If you want to jump or be on the edge of your seat go see The Last House on The Left. That was a good movie, I’m def getting the dvd. It’s gory with a decent story line.
This movie was sick. It was very scary @the movies I had tro scream and I urinated on myself
Loved it

Now, i am a fan of scary movies and i saw haunting in ct and i am still upset to this day that i wasted my money to see that crap. It reminded me of that show Unsolved Mysteries. I don’t believed the story i just wanted to watch the movie.
