The economy is making people desperate
In Atlanta, business at pawnshops is through the roof. In my hometown and others, violence is spiking in poor neighborhoods.
For the last two weeks I’ve been writing about how people are being affected by the ups and downs of the stock market, mostly focusing on 401(k)s and other investments. But the real impact of a recession is felt by real people, in real ways that go way beyond what they’re worth on paper. And from the looks of some of the stories I’m reading, more and more people are getting desperate. It’s not a good look.
I’ve even seen stories of the ridiculous, like the man doing jail time because he couldn’t afford to keep his lawn green.
Are you seeing signs of desperation in your community, or are people dealing with the downturn well?

We’re not exactly seeing signs in our own neighborhoods as of yet…however, we’ve been pretty dilligent about making sure doors are locked and that our alarm is armed most times…also not leaving the house along at night.
I hope to NOT see any of the effects you described, however, it doesn’t hurt to be extra cautious in these troubling times.
Not to bring this completely back to my favourite topic, “Why McCain is an UNFIT leader for America” but this blog entry takes me back to June/July(?) of this year, when Phil Gramm, John McCain’s former economic advisor insisted that the recession was all in the minds of Americans and that we have become a nation of whiners. *gasp* To me, this really goes to the heart of McCain’s previous foolish public statements about the “strong fundementals” of the US economy and his frantic, erratic behaviour in recent weeks in trying to define a cohesive economic policy in response to the fallout. I have strong, sincere doubts that McCain can truly understand the real problems that Americans are facing when he spent the bulk of his presidential run being guided by such foolish, limited, elistist thinking.
Sorry for the sidebar.. but its my top of mind thought these days, as I continue to work up the nerve to check my 401K balance. *insert look of fear here*
Servicing money, man or God?
Where does our trust begin and end?
If there is money to spend thousands and thousands upon thousands in Iraq, where do America’s priorities lie?
Ten’s of thousands of dollars per month?
Lack of Equality nor longer among people but among the dollar bills spent among those people.
Are the troops in need of that money?
Is that money paid directly to our troops?
If so is Iraq’s economy growing due to spending of our troops?
We are tearing down a country because of its bullies and paying to rebuild…
What we are tearing down!!!!
Why are we fighting this country/ the people of that land?
Protect us, America, God. Our leaders are caught up in greed and selfishness.
In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen and Amen.
Americans could use these funds to protect and build America. Not a foreign nation.
Nations have come together in the past to build and pay it forward.
WHAT HAS HAPPENED?!!!!
It is my belief greed and selfishness.
LET GO.
LET GOD.
NOT PLAY GOD!
