American Apparel, Hot Topic
September 3rd, 2008To quote ANTM’s Yaya, that is some “fake kente” cheapness.
OK, so I checked out my favorite spot for basics over Labor Day weekend and guess what I saw … African print dresses. Pretty cool, right? Well, maybe.

My beef, American Apparel has not used a single Black model to help advertise the new print, despite the fact that it’s all over their Web site in tube dresses, bras, headbands and yes, more leggings.
Is it bad that the company doesn’t use any Black models to sell these African inspired items? Or would it be worse and “called racism” had they used a Black model?

Indeed, I don’t really really mind because hopefully African designs will become more mainstream. But c’mon AA, a Black face would be nice.

What’s your opinion? Do you even like?
Fashionwise, I want to wear more African prints, but I want some authentic ish, not a knock-off from some European designer who thinks of it as a fad.
Feel me?

They look real gross wearing that….Just don’t look right
I do agree with Kadi, glad to see its becoming mainstream but atleast could have had a black person modeling the clothes. The white and black dress is cute. Put it with some high heeled black patent leather boots and a cute lblack jacket with a cute black hat and I am there!
Don’t no sistahs wanna wear that hot mess anyway, but I do get your point.
VERY UGLY CLOTHING…AND I AGREE THE SISTERS WOULD NEVER WEAR ANY MESS LIKE THAT
it’s ugly
need some upgrade.
people who said this clothes is ugly, they just dont know how to wear it.
it is pretty alright to me, fashionable enough.
i thought they used african, or african american model though…
in japan here, i see black models in AA. maybe mixed one, but you still count right?
oops, my bad, black models in this item, ne?
sorry, i dont see that either in japan, even it might not come out yet in here.
when it comes to that kind of point of view, i have no things to say…
