You know we’re rootin’ for this girl like no other! Janelle Monae has the voice, style and swagger of the next big thing. We’ve covered her as our “It” Girl and will be bringing you some exclusive video of her performance in the coming weeks! In the meantime, we wanted you to have the most fire-crackin’ experience of your lives this 4^th, so check her performance at BAM’s “Afro Punk” concert in the Skate Park.  It’ll be off the chain, but if you can’t make it (you’re in another city/country), we’ll forgive you. There are some cats that THINK they’re cool, and then there are others who actually ARE cool…fresh-to-death COOL. The Cool Kids are everything they claim to be, with unbelievable bass beats and rhymes that flow like water. ‘Gold and a Pager’ is one of the sickest party beats we’ve heard in a while and “Lost Without Chuck” makes Robin Thicke muuuuch more legit in our opinion.  Not to mention, these kids have a style that is just off the (gold) chain!  They’ve earned their spot in out “It” fam, so check their music out on our Facebook site. What do you think about the Kids?! -sP

One Step Beyond, Nat’l History Museum, NYC 

There are some events that can only be pulled off in the city of bright lights.  The Flavorpill “One Step Beyond” Event at the Natural History Museum is one of ‘em. Talib Kweli headlined a dope party in a museum usually filled with rocks and, uhh, other stuff. The hip-hop throwdown brought out everyone from rap aficionados to club headbangers, and yes there was some style to be had! Ouigi rocked a classic prep look with the always fly Chuck Taylors. Our first Threadz-shout-out goes to our boy ‘JoeyFresh’ Green and his team at ScrollnArtz.  They’ve created a look that is some street, some style and LOTS of color.  We think the sweatshirts make for a dope casual look and the high-cut orange shirt for women screams sexy yet tasteful. A little Chrisette Michele here, a splash of color there.  These women looked doooooope at the Awards After-party, held at the Hotel Roosevelt in LA.  Jaws dropped at the chick on the right; she’s like a 1980s prom-posterchild with some extra funk…You can’t really see the shoes but they match the whole outfit.  Don’t try to show up to the BET Awards lookin’ a hot mess or you will get CLOWNED.  Clearly, Aliki and Brittany came camera-ready with outfits that are sexy and fresh. From Aliki’s LA aviators to Brittany’s dope oversized glasses (which are even doper without actual lenses…believe us), these girls ripped the red carpet. Brandon T. Jackson/Seiko, BET Awards, Los Angeles

Some people sang, others danced but only a few came correct to the BET Awards on Tuesday. We’re not gonna name names (that’s just petty) but we will bring you the hottest styles from behind-the-scenes. First up, Brandon T. Jackson (Pursuit of Happyness) came cool and sleek with fitted black threads but kicked it up a notch with the rattan hat…it’s fly for this summer…ask Ne-Yo.  Seiko (Baldwin Hills) took some chances with the red and black dress, but pulled it off. She’s got that sexy punk-rock look we like. Both were talking about how sick BET’s new YOU(th) VOTE! campaign is and how to get involved. More Swagger-styles and exclusive performances from the Awards coming this week! -sP

 We caught Damien right before heading to the BET Awards (ahem, June 24^th @8pEST).  Gold will ALWAYS stand out, so when we checked his shirt we knew this kid was money.  Though the shirt’s fly, his kicks are where it’s at.
