As we all know artists are ubiquitous in ATL. They come. They go. And often times you forget their names as time goes on. Then there’s those artists that make a lasting impression. And Sevyn Streeter is definitely that chick.

While Sevyn is finally garnering the attention she deserves, her amazing talent has been known by this blogger and social critic for quite sometime. Starting in the game as a songwriter, Sevyn has penned records for artists Chris Brown and more.

I remember sevyn from the now defunct girl group RichGirl. Aspiring Producer/Bodyguard Travis “Tiny” Webb would mention Sevyn and the girls every time we met. Usually I just politely smile and keep it moving, however something about his passion for their artistry really struck a cord with me. After hearing one song I was hooked.

The former Jive records signee and her female band mates made an attempt at history, but oftentimes labels tend to give new acts the attention they deserve choosing to focus more on their cash cows. The later disbanded. Though they did get a chance to open up for Beyonce, which is pretty damn big if I do say o myself.

But, today with RichGirl in her rear-view mirror, a new deal with Atlantic Records, and embattled pop star CB throwing his name and support behind this rising star it appears lightening has struck twice.

Known as Amber to her friends and fam, the mocha beauty has released her first single “I Like it,” from her debut album. It doesn’t knock me off my feet but I’m a different brutha from different time. There’s no mistaking her god given talent. And excellent vocals are all I care about. So I dig it based on that alone.

Sevyn will be in the ATL market this Thursday, February 28th at Vanquish for her first live performance. Trust me you want to be there.
