The Scene: The Garner Circle Celebrates 8 Years In The Game!

There aren’t many publicists in the game I appreciate more than Nicole Garner. Nicole, along with per partner Danie Dickey, celebrated their astonishing 8 year anniversary with a lavish event last week.

Though I had planned on attending, I wasn’t available and unfortunately had to miss out. But judging by the pictures it was quite the celebration. Nicole was my very first publicist, and event planner on my first assignment through SOHH.com years ago. To watch her company build, and her own sense of self as a business emerge has been quite the privilege.

Hosted at Cafe Circa, Nicole was surrounded by business professionals, colleagues and loved ones to celebrate a victory for African-American business women. And Nicole.

Bubblin Under: Writers Block Hits The Road, On National Promo Tour!

Just got some new promo for a dynamic new duo Writers Block ~ Clemm Rishad and Will Jordan. Currently on a national tour promoting their new music. Receiving critical and consumer acclaim for their work with Rihanna and Nicki Minaj’s Fly, it seemed like a perfect time to hit the road and embark on sharing the sounds of Writers Block separate from their talents behind the pen.

Will Jordan’s is a vocalist, and provides most of the production for the team. His self produced EP In Case it Rains is a collection of his work recently released on iTunes. Thriving to expand upon the groundwork of other Northwest greats like Quincy Jones, Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix, Will crosses all musical boundaries. He makes the easy transitioning from the EP’s title track “In Case it Rains” to the playful club banger “Never Go Home”. Check out his single below.

Clemm Rishad has a distinctive sound and flow that pulls from west and east coast greats. With his EP Supaflyness, he offers well crafted records that mirror the roots of hip hop, as well club anthems for his current generation. The beats throughout the project are universal and Clemm glides in and out of them effortlessly. Check out the video to his single “I Think I Love Her’ below.

The Scene: Loud Music Entertainment Casting Call For “Never Seen” Video Shoot

Loud Music Entertainment’s star artist Shaka is having his first video shoot for the first single to his currently untitled hip-hop project “Never Seen”. Choosing to stick with infusing the culture of Atlanta into the visuals of “Never Seen” both the Georgia Terrace Hotel and The Livington have been selected as the backdrop.

There’s a huge club scene at the Livingston from 5-10PM Monday April 29th 2013, and Shaka is calling for all sexy females and dapper fellas who are tryiing to get some face time and show some luv to video shoot.

T’melle the New Bad Girl of R&B

T’melle is ready to take listeners on a spectacular ride. She hails from Philadelphia, a city known for fostering some of the best artist in the music industry. She was discovered and signed by Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes at the age of 11. A tragic accident left her unsure of her fate as a performer, but she continued to fight and was determined to follow her destiny.

Soulful with an edge would best describe her, but her music has no boundaries. Her upcoming mixtape “The Interview” hosted by DJ Scream and DJ X-Rated will be a musical kaleidoscope into her world. Last night, Monami Entertainment and Myx Fusions gave over 300 Atlanta press and industry insiders a sneak preview of the Season 2 premiere episode of VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta.” Guests packed Cream Ultra Lounge to get a glimpse of the attending cast which included Stevie J, Joseline Hernandez, Mimi Faust, Erica Dixon, Rasheeda Frost, Kirk Frost, Shay Johnson, Momma Dee, Benzino, and newcomers Traci Steele, Babey Drew and Che Mack. Executive producer Mona Scott-Young welcomed the crowd, adding that season 2 is just as thrilling as the first one. BOSSIP senior editor Janee Bolden moderated the cast Q&A, while DJ Fadelf kept the crowd moving throughout the night. Additional guests included Shawty Lo, DJ Toomp, Adiz Bambi (“Basketball Wives”), Alexandra Dilworth (Bravo’s “Taking Atlanta”), Sincerely Ward (Bravo’s “Taking Atlanta”) and more. The Scene: Christal Nicole Holds Pvt Media Lunch To Promote New Single

The fab Christal Nicole held a private lunch for some choice media in ATL this week to promote her new single “Sundown”. Though I wasn’t able to attend, Christal Jordan of Enchanted PR sent me over a press release on the exclusive affair.

Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter Crystal Nicole hosted a private lunch today in Atlanta to share her new single SUNDOWN with a small group of music journalists and tastemakers. The lunch was held at Asian cuisine inspired Aja. located in the heart of Buckhead Atlanta. Guests sat around an intimate table and shared teriyaki chicken, sweet and sour chicken and grilled salmon family style as Crystal Nicole shared her journey from singer-to-songwriter-and back to singer.

Growing up in Decatur, GA Crystal Nicole had a big voice and wanted to sing. Numerous failed attempts at R&B groups led her to a career of songwriting. After signing to Jermaine Dupri as a writer almost five years ago, Crystal Nicole’s career took off almost immediately as she scored a #1 hit on the co-write on Mariah Carey’s E=Mc2 album with ‘Touch My Body’. After that initial Billboard success, Crystal Nicole experienced hit record after hit record, writing for A-list divas like Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, Natasha Bedingfield, Mary J and Rihanna (Only Girl in the World), which earned a Grammy. Two years after that career milestone and Crystal Nicole feels she has just begun the course she was destined for. ”I think timing has been a big thing with me,” she says, “I’ve had the ability to grow and learn the business and been able to learn from some of the best. I know all this has been to prepare me for my own project.” Crystal Nicole talked about some of the lessons she’d learned from Mary J, Beyonce and Mariah Carey before playing her single and three additional cuts from her upcoming album.

Crystal Nicole calls her music, “soul swag” because of her undeniably soulful voice, yet clever almost hip hop like approach to lyrics. She promises that her music is representative of her beliefs and she refuses to compromise. “I don’t think that you have to put men down in order to uplift women,” she answered when asked about a record focused on relationships. “I try to look at things from another perspective and flip it around so that it shows another perspective.” When asked about one of the best parts of her new project she smiled, “Being able to write for your own voice, feels great. I cherish working with others and have been blessed to do so and it will always be a part of who I am, but writing for my own voice feels like home.”

Last night, viewers across the nation tuned into the season finale of Bravo TV’s Real Housewives Of Atlanta. The episode did not disappoint as it filled our living rooms with enough twist and turns to have twitter in an uproar. A familar face appeared on the screen during this episode, Nicole Garner, founder of The Garner Circle PR. Her PR agency produced the event Forever Relevant Costume Charity Gala for Kenya Moore in this last episode and we wanted to give our BET readers an insider’s interview.

Gyant: So these days it seems as if everyone wants to be a publicist, what does it really take to be a reputable publicist in 2013?

Nicole Garner: It is key to maintain professionalism in any given situation. Due to how fast news spreads through social media, you are only as good as your last event so your attention to detail and guarding your reputation is key. This is a service based industry and can be somewhat stressful and extremely demanding. Having the energy, experience and the knowledge to really produced results in key to longevity.

Gyant.: On the show, was it hard working with the Real Housewives of Atlanta? What was that really like?

Nicole Garner: Going on my eighth year of running The Garner Circle PR, I have worked with all types. Whether known or unknown, once clients pay their money they have very high expectations. So we have to continuously manage expectations through the entire process. Kenya pays very close attention to detail which made for a better outcome in the end.

Gyant.:: How was it working with the media for this event, knowing they have such a love/hate relationship with the women on the show?

Nicole Garner: I like clients who take responsibility for themselves and what stage they are really at with their brand. We were able to really utilize our relationships with the media for this event because our client had not burned bridges leading into the event.

Gyant: Do you have any advice for those who are unaware of what it truly takes to build a brand?

Nicole:
1. Think before you tweet
2. Research your publicist before you hire them
3. Respect the process, even an overnight success has been working for years before you were aware of them

Gyant: So Nicole, what is next for you?

Nicole: My book “Are You In Inc: PR’s Alter Ego” has gone to print and will be available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and on AreYouInInc.com.
