Freeway’s Free to Say Whatever
April 7th, 2008
I think there’s balance in music. You got all different styles, different kinds of people getting different messages across. Look at me, I’m a recording artist and I’m Muslim. So I’m giving y’all a different input as somebody that believes in Allah and does different things, prays five times a day. I touch on little situations on that. Look at Kanye. He’s a Christian. He made songs like “Jesus Walks.” Then you got people that’s straight hood, straight gutter. Then you got people like Lupe Fiasco that don’t even rap about the street. You can’t say there’s not a balance cause you got different people and different egos, different backgrounds, people coming from different places. Look at down south, they making snap music and dance records. They’re not even talking about shooting and killing.I know me as an artist, I rap about what goes on, things that I see. My hood, my neighborhood reflects in my music, different things and different situations. I feel as though people are just rapping about what they go through, what they see and what they be around. If somebody talking about hoes, maybe they from a neighborhood where there’s a bunch of hoes.

Free iz speakin da truth on here, u rap whut u kno, or in sum cases, whut u think u kno, but Hip Hop has much diversity, & i dont kno how America can b against anything dat iz said in hip hop trackz (1st Amendment: FREEDOM OF SPEECH)
i am muslim too. i am reper in azerbaycan.
that’s real talk but some tend to embellish which in turn misleads the youth-minded salaam
Although its true that hip hop has much balance. The mainstream radio tends to give more leverage to the inferior artists who shys away from creativiy.

LII Backgrounder on Terrorism Law
terrorism defined…
…violent acts or acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State, or that would be a criminal violation if committed within the jurisdiction of the United States or of any State; and appear to be intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping.
THIS WAS ONE OF THE PROSECUTION THEY USED AGAINST YOU….
well u have 2 understand that when u rap ur not only rappin 2 men n women ur rapin 2 young men, young women, little boys n little girls n by u talkin about stuff in ur neighborhood ur placin that on their minds even though they might not live in that same environment that u grew up in n that goin influence them 1 way or another n they probably r gonna wanna b like u n start thinkin the same way u talk in ur lyrics n the whole idea about rappin shouldn’t b about wat u saw growing up cuz u wanna get away from dat so y not try rappin bout wat u wanna c get the hell out the past
I totally agree with Sincere. yes, hip hop is diverse. THis world is diverse. The point that were trying to make is the biggest impact you have is on the younger generation because they say what they hear and they do what they see. Adult can listen to your music and no right from wrong. Kids won’t. So for you to be speaking on the past is not the best idea. Kids look up to artist and say “i wanna be just like him” then you as a artist need to take a step back an ask yourself who am i and is this really how i want my son to act, see and be the spitting image of. 9 times out of 10 you puttin out exactly what you dont want yo son go thru and do. So the question i have is why are you speaking it into existance??
It seems as though the adults in media, black or white, hip-hop or rock and in society in general do not accept their responsibility in the lives of children. The entertainment industry does not have respect for our youth or a family friendly atmosphere. There are some things that are just not age appropriate. We wonder why children and teens are thinking about sex, sex, sex, drugs, crime and alcohol. Well, its all over the T.V., in the music, and sometimes demonstrated by the community leaders, but no one wants to be responsible. I see it to be soooo sad for adults to impose their lustful and sexual fantasies along with other irresponsible and disrespectful behavior upon young minds to make a dollar or make themselves happy. Remember out the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. What we represent, say and do is who we are. The selfishness of mankind and immorality will always cause an imbalance among us humans.
Its very important 2 speak/rap about what u know,and how u relate 2 what u r saying,freeway is tru 2 himself and the game,
Sonnet 18
Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm’d;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature’s changing course untrimm’d;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander’st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou growest:
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
Summary
The speaker opens the poem with a question addressed to the beloved: “Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?” The next eleven lines are devoted to such a comparison. In line 2, the speaker stipulates what mainly differentiates the young man from the summer’s day: he is “more lovely and more temperate.” Summer’s days tend toward extremes: they are shaken by “rough winds”; in them, the sun (”the eye of heaven”) often shines “too hot,” or too dim. And summer is fleeting: its date is too short, and it leads to the withering of autumn, as “every fair from fair sometime declines.” The final quatrain of the sonnet tells how the beloved differs from the summer in that respect: his beauty will last forever (”Thy eternal summer shall not fade…”) and never die. In the couplet, the speaker explains how the beloved’s beauty will accomplish this feat, and not perish because it is preserved in the poem, which will last forever; it will live “as long as men can breathe or eyes can see.”
I see A LOT of suport for NAS (aka: Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones) from black people, but FOX did the right thing!!!! People DO YOUR HOMEWORK before you throw your support behind one of these ganster rappers; DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!! The more these rappers represent negaitve images / language of black people…the HARDER we (positive black people) have to work to overcome the negative sterotypes!!!
NAS is a convicted felon. This means that he (NAS just like T.I. and Michael Vick etc.) have GIVEN UP there right to vote and OWN guns, it wasn’t taken away…they GAVE it away. VOTING is a fundamental right our forefathers fought and DIED for…now these rappers, have given up their right to vote and own guns. I guess since felons cannot own guns the next best thing is to rap about owning one…just don’t get caught like T.I. or you will go to jail again, or be placed on house arrest. (smiling).
I always wondered why rappers change their birth names. In essance, it is to conceal their TRUE identify, or to hide their felony conviction(s). Well in the words of Sen Obama,’…it’s time for a CHANGE!!!
INSTEAD OF NAS PITITIONING FOX to have someone removed, NAS (along with other felony rappers) NEEDS TO PITITION THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT TO GET HIS RIGHT TO VOTE REINSTATED (BACK)!!!! (funny)
NAS pititioning FOX is like NAS presenting FOX with a role of toilet paper…No matter how may signatures (sheets) it don’t mean s*hit coming from a person who DOESN’T have a voice (vote)…except on BET.
It seems to me, through research, that BET promotes convicted felons, by continuing to indorse these people (I have found three so far and if you are a convicted felon…your turn is coming…BELIEVE ME!). Therefore, all of the felons can be found on BET. Just look them up. The felony information can be found on A LOT of web sites…trust me!
BET along with other networks, VH1, MTV needs to stop indorsing convicted felons by playing their songs and videos. Take a hint from NIKE and other corporate sponsors. Once you are convicted, these corporations pull ALL indorsements from the individals, as it should be, and don’t look back. (PULLING INDORSEMENTS a.k.a. NOT ALLOWING THESE PEOPLE’s music and video’s to be played WILL SEND A STRONG MESSAGE to our American youth, as well as the rap community.) But BET still indorses these convicts by continuing to play their music and videos. If you continue to play their music and videos…in short…you are indorsing them. T.I. IS A CONVICTED FELON…or was I the only one watching the arrest by the ATF agents THE SAME DAY OF THE BET AWARDS WHICH WERE HELD IN ATLANTA.
What message(s) are we sending to the young (BLACK) youth of America…It’s OK to loose your right to vote as long as you continue to wear your pants sagging, and buy old model cars, which in the Kelly Blue Book, the value of the can is basically worthless. The modifications on the car cost more than the value of the car itself.
I am a young, educated black man, who supports the decision of FOX. Why would you have a convicted felon, whose music and track titles contains gun violence, give a concert at Virginia Tech (University) who was DEVASTATED by gun violence? That’s like inviting a petafile to go to elementary or middle schools to READ to the children.
Ganster rappers HAVE NO VOICE in corporate america. What happen at FOX, to NAS, was a PRIME example. NAS said,”This is not over…”. NAS, get over it…yes it is over! FOX put you out on the street like a bag of garbage, so I guess you are going to RAP about it next…can’t wait. (laughing out loud).
Read it for yourself…
2007: Bill O’Reilly/Virginia Tech controversy and Greatest Hits
Nas performed at a free concert for the Virginia Tech student body and faculty on September 6, 2007. Nas was joined by John Mayer, Phil Vassar, and Dave Matthews Band.[29] When announced that Nas was to perform, Bill O’Reilly and Fox News Channel denounced the concert and called for the removal of the rapper citing “violent” lyrics on songs including “Shoot ‘Em Up”, “Got Urself A Gun”, and “Made You Look”. During his Talking Points Memo segment for August 15, 2007, an argument erupted in which O’Reilly claimed that it was not only Nas’s lyrical content that made him inappropriate for the event, citing the gun conviction on Nas’ criminal record. In the midst of his debate with author Bakari Kitwana (”The Hip Hop Generation”), who defended Nas, claiming that Fox News had “cherry picked” select fragments of the songs to make their case, O’Reilly shouted, “Even in his personal life, man, he’s got a conviction for weapons, all right? He’s got a weapons conviction, sir! On his sheet! This is a school that had a mass murderer with a pistol gunning down people—this guy has got a conviction for weapons, and you say he’s appropriate? Come on!” O’Reilly repeated the claim another four times before cutting the segment short.
