Mike Jones Ain’t Tryin’ To Hear All That

January 10th, 2008

Bottom line, ain’t nobody gonna give you nothing. Everything I got, I had to earn. And that was the same with Master P. He was telling everybody how he felt that what we doing is not good for the viewers, but he did it too to make that $100 million, $200 million he made. We on the grind trying to make it the same way. We ain’t out there saying “kill em’, beat em’ up.” We’re just making music. If they don’t like it, it don’t mean I’m finna change up what I’m doing because this is what is helping me provide for my family legally. It ain’t like you finna take your $200 [million] and give it back. That’s like me telling you I stole a Phantom and now I’m riding through the city in it, and I’m telling you go take your Phantom back, man. He made his money when he came out, in his time people was still saying Hip-Hop vs.

America. When he came out with “uh, na, na, na, na,” people was saying Hip-Hop vs.

America. But he ain’t listen to it. He had not to, to make $200 million. So now that Mike Jones is making money and people are saying Hip-Hop vs.

America, I ain’t trying to hear you. ‘Cause I know I help out the community. When people always say, oh hip-hop, why don’t we see more artists like this or like that. Okay, when you check Soundscan, they ain’t moving no units. So if all y’all saying what y’all saying, why y’all ain’t help them go platinum, triple platinum. You wanna talk about Young B, but Young  B sold 5 million. “Nah, man. We don’t like Young B, we like him. Why we don’t hear more artists like him?” Okay, then go buy him two or three million times, then you gon’ start seeing more people like him. I think people be contradicting themselves more than they know.

–MIKE JONES

i think these “trappers”(crackhouse rappers)are “evil & selfish”. & for the past 10yrs. have been helped(by evil & selfish, white [&] black music-execs.)to release the most violent, reckless, & irresponsible conent possible onto young, impressionable, kids who “absorb” & “mimic” everything they witness. & there’s no f*cking excuse for it! & so i’m led to believe internet-based filesharing technology rewarding us with free-mp3s, etc. is “backlash & punishment” to the labels & their slaves.

First of all I have 2 say in some kind of strange way I agree with Mike Jones but 2 a certain point. For 1 thing I hate it when people talk about how rap music is making young people want 2 use or sale drugs & kill & rob people & all that other bullsh*t. That sh*t is stupid. If u raise your child right at home than when they are put in the postion 2 use or do illegal things they will remember what they parents taught them at home & say no. Alot of parents think that by buying their kids every & anything make them do the right thing but its not that its LOVE. & its not that Mike Jones is saying he doesn’t care about nobody but hisself & his family, he is saying that he is doing whatever he can do 2 support them for they can have a better life. Stop blaming everybody for sh*t that we don’t have time 2 doo & thats all i have 2 say

You can’t have it both ways…

On one hand, some of these rappers love to brag and boast about how Hip-Hop is the most popular and lucrative genre of music, then in the same breath denounce the amount of influence that it has on the fans, particularly the ones who can directly identify with them because they come from the same place. These are the fans who literally hang on each and every lyric that most of these rappers spew. I use the word ‘most’ because the lyrics of ‘Talib Kwali’, ‘Most Def’ or ‘Common’ don’t seem to resonate with the young brothers as powerfully as the negative lyrics of A LOT (way too many) of the other rap artists.

They spray “Accusatory Popuri” on their putrid crap by pointing their fingers at Rock, Commercials and Porno Flicks. No matter how much dirt that they dig out about other forms of entertainment…their doo-doo still stinks! There is a crisis with parenting in our inner-city communities and these are the young brothers and sisters who are the most vulnerable to absorbing the poisonous lyrics of some of these “rappers”.

Obviously literature is not your forte (uhh…that means you aren’t good at it)! KEEP UP little homie…

I never said that I didn’t like rap, I just loathe (don’t like) the kind of C-RAP that contains (has) negative (bad) lyrics. That C-RAP poisons the minds of young African American Brothers and Sisters! GOT IT???????????

Society as a whole is at fault for what happens today. I don’t remember Rap being at fault until it was determined that young white americans where the main comsumer of Hip Hop/ Rap music. The reason why most rappers today write and produce what they do is because that’s the life that they lived. If being an artist is about keeping it true to self, and getting out what’s inside of you. Then why not write about what they know. Most popular rappers are between ages 20-30 years old. We all know that this was a lost generation. Having said that, I don’t know if they have anything else to talk about. Sensorship is a right granted to all individuals and parents. So, be careful what you allow your children to listen to. Monitor their collections of music, tv shows, and friends thay hang around. It’s your responsibility, not the artists. What they do is their job. Same as when most of us go to work. You’re not telling your boss you can’t do your job because you’re concerned about what my children will think/do because of it. So, don’t put the blame on artists for doing their jobs. Do yours and I promise you will see a change in the behavior of our youth. Granted a lot of the popular music today is untasteful, but that the way of the world right now and it started way longer than ten years ago. This is way larger than rap music. Our President is sending a message that it ok to murder innocent people and disrupt the lives of millions for no apparent reason. Maybe…. we should start there.

Can’t have it both ways. They continually brag and boast about how Hip-Hop is the most powerful, lucrative and influential genre of music in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD then in the same breath denounce responsibility for their poisonous lyrics!

Since Hip-Hop is so Epically Global, I am not trying to hear anything about what other forms of entertainment were doing before 10 years ago or what they are doing now. NOW…Hip-Hop has the power. WITH POWER COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITY. The lyrics in most of the songs that I hear glorify IRRESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOR: murder, drug dealing, robbing stealing, promiscuity…..NEED I GO ON?!

I don’t care where they come from, I come from the same environment. There is a wide-bold line between educating the masses on the ills of the inner-city and flat out celebrating poisonous lifestyles. You know it and I know it Desmond! By the way, the children that are most susceptible to the negative influence of their lyrics are the ones who come from the same broken single parent homes and dangerous environments. RECYCLING NEGATIVE ENERGY ISN’T THE ANSWER BROTHER.

…and this is y ni66a’s should be allowed to make albums anymore now. earth to mike jones, you’re suppose to be an artist. but all you’re talking about is ‘this is how i make my money’. ni66a get a job. as an artist you have the responsibility to express the content of your heart and mind in a poetic fashion. what would i look like going around selling boxes full of bricks and calling myself a tv salesman. i would be a crook for selling people b.s. mike jones… who, you make millions… well sir you owe america some change!!

jernard was here…

That whole statement is why I rarely but rap music anymore. Mike Jones, you are a follower. It takes someone different to be talented. Make your money, but don’t call yourself an artist unless you put out art. Popularity is not determined by the worth of the product nowadays. It is determined by what the powers that be want us to be concerned with, which is nothing. They put bull on heavy rotation no matter what we do want to hear and children buy it because they don’t know any better. Now we have yet another generation of very ignorant people. How much lower do we have to go? All of you fake artists are rapping and singing about absolutely nothing while the real world goes on around you and you are silent on real topics. You are letting youself be controlled by the white man and that is sad.

HE HAS A POINT IF YOU WANT THINGS IN HIP HOP TO CHANGE THEN SUPPORT CHANGE. DON’T JUST SIT BACK AND COMPLAIN. THERE ARE ALOT OF ARTIST WHO ARE POSITIVE AND RAP GREAT, BUT IF YOU DON’T BUY THE MUSIC THEN ITS USELESS. ITS JUST LIKE VOTING,IN ORDER TO CHANGE THINGS AND BE HEARD YOU HAVE TO PARTICIPATE. SO IF YOU DONT BUT GOOD MUSIC THEN JUST SHUT THE F#$K UP AND LET PEOPLE EAT.

I FEEL LIKE THE WHOLE INDUSTRY IS WATERED DOWN AND WEAK,AS AN ARTIST,FAN AND LISTENER OF HIP-HOP I AGREE AT THE RATE IT’S GOIN IT WON’T BE MUCH LEFT TO LISTEN TO.MOST(NOT ALL)ARTISTS ARE LACKING IN SUBSTANCE,THEIR MUSIC HAS NOTHING TO OFFER,A FEW WEAK PARTY TRACKS AND THAT’S IT.WHERE’S THE MESSAGE????PEOPLE TRY SO HARD TO KEEP UP WITH WHATS CURRENT AND GET CAUGHT IN THE CURRENT AND DROWN OR CAN’T SWIM BACK HOME TO THE BASICS AND ROOTS.MONEY MONEY MONEY I GUEST THAT MEANS MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE.

BIG FAN OF MIKE JONES AND THE WHOLE DOWN SOUTH MUSIC INDUSTRY.I THINK ITS ONE WITHIN ITS SELF ALWAYS HAD LOVE FOR IT.MUSIC IS JUST LIKE FREEDOM OF SPEECH RAP,R AND B, PONK ROCK.ALL HAVE THE RIGHT TO SAY AS THEY CHOOSE.ITS UP TO US TO TAKE FROM IT WHAT WE SHALL WETHER YOUR FEELING AND UNDERSTANDING WHAT THERE SAYING OR YOUR TRYING TO COPY THE LYRICS INTO ACTION. MOST SPEAK FROM THERE REAL LIFE STORY AND MUSIC IS A WAY THAT THEY EXPRESS WHAT THEYVE BEEN THROUGH TO THOSE WHO CAN RELATE. IF U CHOOSE UPON ONESELF TO PUT WORDS INTO YOUR OWN ACTIONS ITS NOT THERE FAULT. MOST JUST WANT U TO HEAR AND UNDERSTAND THAT THEY HAD IT HARD BUT EVERYONE DONT HAVE TO GO THAT ROUTE.

Okay..so..I’m so sick of people talking about ‘Parents need to raise their kids.’ Let’s be REAL man. What parent can be around their child 24 hours a day. Of course you must tell your child right from wrong..but how many times have you done or are still doing something your folks ‘told you’ was wrong. Even the best parents can’t shield their children from all these Negative, trifling images being put out in Music and on television. Rappers should take more pride in what they put out..and stop selling out. So Mike Jones thinks he’s not gonna sell if he raps about positive things. You don’t consider that SELLING OUT?? Wowzers. I’m not judging..only God can do that. I’m bringing light to issues that need attention. Peace-AND-Black Love<3

Ok I see alot of different view points and i’m taking all of them into consideration. Alot of people want to blame rap music for americas problems when that simply is not the case. It’s easier to blame it on rap music sort of like a copout. The truth of the matter is parents if you are rasing your children the right way you have nothing to worry about, we don’t discipline our children thats why it’s so easy for them to get side tracked. The last 10yrs of rap has been horrible I read? This country rap? Are you serious just because more country artist are getting their shine on it’s a problem right when up north rappers (no disrespect i love all genres) Were talking about the same things. N.W.A., Slick Rick, biggie, tupac, LLCoolJ, and any other artist of the early 90’s what were they talking about that’s so different. And we always talking about unity but continue to hate on each other. Lets face it real music died in the late 70’s early 80’s.

Young Wise Said on

Don’t get me wrong music does affect people but not as much as people think. It’s your environment. Some theories show this( ecological theories, radical theories, social disorganization theories, learning theories etc.) If you live in an environment where you see a man/woman doing this doing that you are going to be use to seeing that and that in turn will become a norm for you. Which do you all think weighs heavier listening to it or actually seeing it? Keep in mind most people are visual learners. And if these rappers were not giving anything back to the community it would be a problem too right? Come down on the movie industy too. I love American Gangster but what did that portray but because it was Denzel its not a problem correct? What about Scarface, Blow, Casino, The Godfather? Alot of these rappers rap about what they went through and a majority even say don’t be like me, i’m one of the lucky ones be better. And when rappers decide not to rap about anything make party music it’s considerd wack it’s no pleasing some people
