Nelly Vs. America!!!

May 20th, 2008

I’ve heard this phrase before it’s just worded differently. It’s, like, Black America versus America almost. Its always gonna be there, why?? Because they can’t control hip-hop. If they could control it, it wouldn’t be a problem. You can’t control it because we dictate what it’s going to be. They took Pop music from us, they took Rock and Roll music from us. They try to take R&B music from us. You can’t take hip-hop! Because hip-hop comes from the ghetto; it comes from the hood. It comes from the kids, it comes from that form, so you can’t take that if you’re not living in it. You can take Pop music, R&B music. You can take the writers and as long as they can sing, you good.  But with that shit coming from what it is, they can’t control it. It’s gonna always be versus America. In a minute, it’s gonna be versus the world because it’s the biggest music on the planet. And until they stop trying to fight it and they acknowledge it and listen to some of the shit we’re saying, you know, they want to ban gangster rap, but it’s like, ‘yo, if you stop half the shit that’s going on in the hood, gangster rap probably wouldn’t exist because if you clean it up, then maybe they stop rappin about it. Try that, you done tried everything else, try going into the neighborhood and helping. Try, if a brother’s getting shot, try taking the guns off the street. If you want people to stop, stop selling bullets on the corner. If you want to clean up the drugs, stop letting the man in at the coastline. Its like you cutting the grass off up the top saying you don’t want it to grow, instead of grabbing it from the roots and its unheard of.

Hip-hop is a voice and it’s going to forever be heard and I do think we go too far sometimes, which is the world. The world is being influenced by capital and money. And that’s whats running this country. This whole country was built on that. This whole country was built on capital, and money, and thievery, and took this land. We killed to have this land. We didn’t ask. We didn’t even know what language to ask in. How could you ask when you don’t even know what language. You don’t even know how to ask. When they hit the rock, Plymouth rock or whatever the f**k, how you gonna talk to a native American when you don’t even know what the f**k they speaking? You don’t need to talk. You got guns, you got gun powder and cannons. They over here on horses with arrows. Of course, everybody else is gonna be like ‘hey, whatever you want.’ But that’s this whole country, and people are crazy to think its going to run any other way when yore foundation is shaky. Your foundation is built on lies, thievery, stealing, and murder. In order for somebody to be rich a crime has to take place somewhere down the line. That what divides. The only way a person casn get ahead is to step somebody down. Evolve and evolve and evolve. Now, hip-hop is making money, we’re making strides, we’re the biggest music on the planet, and we’re also the largest black employers on the planet, so its allowing more brother and sisters  to do other positive things, and send my kids to some of the best schools in the country. And to solidify trust funds, leave trust funds, have health care. It’s a beautiful thing, and I’m happy to be a part of it.

Just wanted to say that it’s good to hear from a brother with money, and class that speaks about the true issues of today.

Stay up Nelly

WOW.. couldn’t have said it better. Nelly puts all of that into a way that most people don’t even think about. Very smart, and good. This world needs more people like that.

It’s always good to hear from some one that has a lttle bit more than other’s about the real issues’s that we face today! My opinion only counts when it comes to elceting the president but as far as what we see today, in these street’s and what’s on t.v then I’m just another sister that’s voicing her opinion! To me I feel we need more celeberties to come as one to see what all could change for the future generation. I rarely listen to the message that’s being represented in music but now I take the time out to hear what there trying to inform any color, age or race! You do hear a lot about what the street’s have done to our younger gerneration but what good do you hear?! When they put out these lyric’s they do have some informing info. for the generation yet to come but what about those that are here needing guidence right now ! I have a 6 yr. old son that can repeat a Young Jezzy, LiL Wayne and Soulja Boy song in a min.. I try my hardest to keep him from that but how can you accomplish it when you have t.v’s, radio’s, people and other thing’s and events that keep it coming! I’ve learned to know that it’s not going to happen unless the artisit themsleves keep it correct! Rather it is the good or the bad, we just need to make sure we teach them the right from wrong! Nelly will always be an insperation for me so do what ya do to keep our next generation from falling in this Hip Hop vs America!

a lot of what nelly said is true. but where is the variety in today’s hip hop. some of all sound the same with lyrics of little or no substance. just a mindless loop with some kindegarten rhyme hook) scheme. as far as i am concerned there are artist that deserve to get airplay, but the labels do not want people especially black people to be conscious therefore they only push brain dead artist who are more so the problem as opposed to the solution. so in a way nelly may be doing great things in the community. but so many are worried about their reps. ala rick ross(prison guard) the rep is more important than the damage they do to their community in the name of record sales

im tired of people sayin hip hop is “dead” or “wounded” or on “life support” its evolving….. in tha 80 we had great artist like ll cool j, nwa, rakim (he was before my time.) ect. but u also had artists like eddie muphy (lol) n bizz markie u kno……. same with tha tha 90’s u had greats like pac n big n aaliyah n snoop. but u also had uncle luke n 2 live crew….. even now 4 every kanye, ti, wayne, (or yo best rapper) therres a soulja boy, v.i.c. lil jon…. it not hip hop dat is dead… cuz therre will always be people that will keep that alive but also…. therre will be those people that make music for that time frame….. they will still be rememberd because they are just as important 2 hip hop and r&b as tha legends. u cant play ginuwine (90’s) janet jackson (80’s) to send tha wrong message 2 a person so u play songs like (licku up n down…. 90) or ne thing pretty ricky (now)…… so all these political people is readin 2 deep n to this music its not ment 2 make u think…. wat teen or grown person wants 2 listen 2 a person tell them how stupid they are n what they like is not hip hop or “music” 4 all those people who grew up n tha 80’s (70’s babies) did they parents say hip hop wasn’t music…. n i bet dey parent said that disco wasn’t music……. so get off dat real talk cuz think about n 20 years hip hop will be well n its 50’s n tha same people who listen 2 soulja boy mite say 2 they kids or grand kids “dat aint real music”…..
