Fabolous and Emily B Won’t Be the Next Game and TiffanyNovember 12th, 2012

On The Combat Jack Show, Fabolous discussed his love for Emily, star of Vh1’s Love & Hip Hop, and his thoughts on marriage. The couple is happily raising their child; however, the rapper doesn’t see marriage in his future, explaining that a ring and paper “messes up a good thing sometimes.” While the two have survived the publicity wrath of having their relationship on a reality show and continue to work on their bond, Fab feels that they have more progress to make before he would even reconsider his views on marriage. Unsurprisingly, he just doesn’t believe in the institution.
In the hip hop world, marriage really is an anomaly reserved for older rappers who have matured from their wilder years. Ice-T married his wife Coco in his early forties. Jay-Z finally put a ring on Beyoncé’s finger around the same age. Snoop Dogg wed Shante when they were in their twenties, but they divorced seven years later only to renew their vows four years after that when the rapper was in his late thirties.
Fab has clearly been taking notes, as he has cited this pattern of rappers holding off on the nuptials and building a strong foundation in their relationship before walking down the aisle. With almost 50% marriages ending, high financial stakes for music millionaires in divorces and the negative publicity that could follow the crumbling of a union, the hip hop star is smart to be cautious and take love one step at a time. He need only look to his fellow rapper Game for an example of this serious choice gone awry, who proposed to his fianceé Tiffany and then canceled the wedding as a result of not being “ready.” These types of decisions have only proven to have heavy consequences if not thought out thoroughly.
The “Make Me Better” rapper has a few years to go before he reaches the marital age of the hip hop celebs that have managed to make their marriages work. However, plenty of other music celebs have strong relationships without rings, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Even if Fab has no desire to ever be a husband, so long as he and Emily are happy with the structure of their relationship, that’s all that matters.
