Halloween Shenanigans: Chris, Are You Bored?November 1st, 2012
By Arielle Loren
Chris Brown is a wealthy man with stylists, assistants, publicists and managers that are all invested in his image. Somehow, all of these people were either bypassed or experiencing a lapse in judgment when the R&B bad boy came up with the “brilliant” idea to dress up with his crew as Osama Bin Laden and some terrorists.
Halloween is the perfect time of year to make a creative, outrageous statement. It’s when women can dress scantily without receiving the side eye, cross-dressing is considered normal and crazy-looking people can walk the street. There are thousands of costumes to choose from between Halloween stores and DIY measures. However, Brown must’ve needed some extra attention because countless costumes were thrown to the side for the chance to dress up as an American enemy.
Part of me believes that Chris knew exactly what he was doing when he put on his Halloween garb. He tweeted a picture of himself and his clique knowing the press would go crazy and probably thought it was funny to be one of America’s most hated individuals. He’s certainly been in that spot before.
However, as someone who hasn’t handled controversy well, it’s a wonder that the singer-rapper would put himself in the hot seat just for a day of silliness. Perhaps his melodramatic love triangle between Rihanna and Karrueche wasn’t enough. The celeb just wanted more attention and a chance to piss off Americans who are still angry over Bin Laden’s actions and September 11th.
What’s worse is that every blog has eaten the tweet and picture alive, making it a pop culture news item. Hopefully, the chatter will die down and let childish ignorance stay in its place. Brown might be bored and chuckling at the backlash. However, I might cringe if President Obama gets asked about it by some reporter and is forced to give another Kanye West-type statement.
