With all the chatter of ex-lovers Chris Brown and Robyn “Rihanna” Fenty getting back together, the criticism isn’t far behind. After their 2009 public domestic violence altercation, the world was given the privilege to weigh in on the couple’s every move, from the Barbados star’s “obligation” to walk away and be a “role model” for her fans to the R&B bad boy receiving so much shade it’s a wonder he didn’t throw himself and a chair out of a window.

While celebrities trade privacy for fame and fortune, they do not owe their fans anything beyond good art. The singers have gone above and beyond in their subsequent music, while still navigating their healing and  aftermath of the incident. Three years later, the public still has not forgiven that unfortunate night, and even a mention of the two reuniting has every blog in the universe shaking its metaphorical head. Everyone might hate Chris, but Robyn is the only person who had to endure those wounds and the public embarrassment.

Many equate stars to superheroes, assuming they’re not sensitive to all of the attention that follows their personal lives. In this circumstance, it’s quite the contrary as the songstress openly confessed to Oprah that she was scared of the “pedestal that comes with fame.” Calling him the love of her life, she was more concerned about Chris being perceived as a “monster” than her own victimhood. While many were enraged and pushing her to walk away, it’s clear that being the poster girl for domestic violence went against her heart from the jump.

The navy captain has already paid the ultimate price, having her dignity shattered and beaten face imprinted on the Internet forever. Together or not, the complexities of their romance will always be a discussion point of her career, so if she wants him back, let her have him. At the end of the day, if she loves him enough, she is the only person that has to get intimate with his sporadic temper. If she’s willing to make that sacrifice, there’s really nothing left to say. Two adults are simply going to do what two adults want to do. Disappointed fans and critical media pundits should fall back. She’s just trying to live her life.

You can certainly see your enthusiasm within the paintings you write. The world hopes for more passionate writers such as you who are not afraid to mention how they believe. Always go after your heart. “We are near waking when we dream we are dreaming.” by Friedrich von Hardenberg Novalis.
