Natalie Cole Vs. Amy Winehouse

February 12th, 2008

I swear we will not be talking about the Grammys all week, but I just couldn’t let this one go. Check this CBS News interview with Natalie Cole where she says that Amy Winehouse shouldn’t have won her Grammys (Winehouse took home the most Awards that night with 5, including one for Record of the Year). “I’m not happy about the Amy Winehouse thing,” says Cole. “Don’t think she deserved it. She needs to get her life together first, and then get awarded later….” Do I smell a catfight coming?

Vince Gill Vs. Kanye

February 11th, 2008

Maybe the new Clash of the Titans (doubtful). Since we were on Kanye watch, we should mention when Vince Gill accepted his Award and borderline checked Kanye’s ego. “I just had an Award given to me by a Beatle….you ever have that happen to you, Kanye.” Kanye laughed though.  Poor Kanye, he’s officially the target.

Kanye Loses…but he’s a good sport.

February 11th, 2008

Well, Kanye did not win “Album Of The Year.” He got beat out by a well-deserved Herbie Hancock. As Usher presented the Award, he said ”There are no losers in this category….Kanye.” LOL. Kanye smiled. He was a good sport tonight. But it would have been nice to hear that Saturday Night Live… “Aww Hell Naah.”

Kanye ALMOST has a moment!

February 11th, 2008

Kanye picks up the Award for Best Rap Album for Graduation. With “Mama” shaved into his head, Kanye already made a statement as he walked into the 50th Annual Grammy Awards. But in the middle of his acceptance speech, as he starts to talk about his mother, the wrap-it-up music starts to play. “C’mon, you gonna play the music at me,” Kanye interrupts himself, before continuing. Then, as the music keeps playing, Kanye seemingly becoming more agitated says “it would be in good taste to stop the music.” In a few seconds, the Academy stops the music! Amazing, I don’t think they’ve ever done that. Guess they felt obliged since he was talking about his mama. “I know you’re really proud of me and I know you wouldn’t want me to stop,” he says. “I’m gonna make you proud.” Phew. I almost wished they kept playing the music so we could get Kanye to spaz like never before. But, there are still more awards for him to win, so maybe a MEGA spaz moment from Kanye is coming.

Kanye Sings

February 11th, 2008

kanyegrammy_blog.jpg

Kanye is singing. Well, you knew this was going to be an emotional one for Kanye. Dedicating a special performance of his song “Dear Mama” to his mother Donda West, who passed late last year from complications of surgery, Kanye slowed down the pace and sang the chorus. The audience is crying, but Kanye held it together.

Kanye Performs

February 11th, 2008

 kanyeglow_blog.jpg

Kanye is performing “Stronger,” and I believe that his glasses glow in the dark. I thought he was extra with it months ago when they he first debuted the venetian blinds-style white glasses, but now they are glowing against a much darker backdrop.

Wait, there’s an alien pyramid in the back glowing too. Now, martians (Daft Punk) just came out and they are playing the keyboards. Kanye has taken the futuristic sound too far.

Kanye Watch

February 11th, 2008

It’s the 50th Annual Grammy Awards show. Because Kanye West is known for his outbursts at Awards shows (most recently, his backstage tantrum at the MTV Awards), we’re paying close attention to Kanye to watch his every move. It’s 8 p.m., the show has just started and ‘Ye has already won three Grammys in pre-telecast. He won best rap solo performance for “Stronger,” best rap song for “Good Life,” and best rap performance by a duo or group for his collaboration with Common on “Southside.” Wow, three and counting. This could be an emotional one for Kanye if he keeps racking up. Stay tuned…

Writer’s Strike Won’t Stop Beyonce

January 22nd, 2008

beyoncegrammy_blog.jpg

Matthew Knowles has announced in a statement that, despite the WGA’s strike, Beyonce “as well as my other artists Solange and Trinitee 5:7″ will participate in this year’s Grammy Awards. Surprise, surprise. We know she’s a great singer and performer, but I just want Papa Knowles to let her take a break. Everyone needs a vacation, even Bey, and to me, the writer’s strike was the perfect opportunity. At this point, I’m inclined to believe that Beyonce is not a person, but rather a robotic machine that keeps going and going like the energizer bunny.

Now, the real news: the Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) has asked that artists and musicians who are members of the Screen Actor’s Guild (SAG) to boycott the 50th Annual Grammy Awards, a show that will go on, without the writers, who have been on strike for a number of weeks (like 12). This year, the event will take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Feb. 10. Beyonce, as well as 50 Cent, T.I. and Alicia Keys, are all members of SAG. Still, she will cross the picket line, and is facing criticism for it.
