Best Week Ever: Barack Obama

November 17th, 2008

Yes I know it’s late,  but it’s still well deserved…..and B.Fleezy’s ready to tell you why!

Best Week Ever- Presidential Election Edition

Earlier this summer my good friend and I got into a fiery discussion about honorary whites- you know the black people that even black people forget are black. While he insisted that Cuba Gooding Jr. was the whitest black man on earth, I argued that Tiger Woods far surpassed him in all categories of whiteness.

After what seemed like hours and hours of texting back and forth, we finally reached a consensus on the ultimate honorary white: Will Smith. That’s right, our very own Willy from Philly marked his final transition into whitehood when he played the last man on earth in the film I Am Legend.

The last man on earth a black man on earth? Yeah right. People definitely forgot that Will was black for that role, otherwise there is no way he would have been able to represent the entire human race. Needless to say, following this conversation I was almost one hundred percent positive that if we were to ever have a black President, it would be him. It seemed he had all the right characteristics- a charming smile and a friendship with Tom Cruise.

Fortunately last week when Barack Obama became the first African-American President, I was proved wrong. It has been almost two weeks and I am just now coming off my Presidential election induced high. Last Tuesday was a lot of things.

It was historical. It was magical. It gave black people the right to quote Jeezy every five seconds by singing “My President is black, my Lambo is blue.” Although my Lamborghini is non-existent and my real car is white you get the point- there is a black man in the White House and it feels hmm hmm good.  Read below to find out who, other than African-Americans still holding up their black fists, is having the best week ever.

1. The Civil War

Never has it been so apparent in our history that the Union did in fact win. I know…I know it’s a hard pill to swallow for those still holding secession meetings and flying the confederate flag but it’s true… black is officially the new black and I’m loving it.

2.  Anyone with the name Hussein

That’s right people; you can all come out of hiding. Hussein is Obama’s middle name so look for a drastic cut in the amount of time you spend going though security at the airport.

3. Communists

Well maybe not because they still didn’t win the Cold War, but at least they are in the news because of the accusations that Obama is one of them. Note to disgruntled people everywhere: being a black President does not make you a Communist. It just makes you a black President.

4. Sarah Palin

Home Girl finally knows that Africa is in fact a continent. She can now pass that information on to her kid’s kids’ kids. Nuff said.

 5. Bi-Polar People

While I know this has absolutely nothing to do with the election, Beyonce is making it cool to be Bi-Polar again. Her new double-disc album is showing two dramatically different sides of Mrs. Carter. Correct me if I am wrong though, didn’t T.I. just do the same thing with his T.I. vs. T.I.P album?

Sincerely

Man o Man. Another brilliant article. Obama… Man! What else is there to say? I’ll be honest though, I doubt my security checks at the airport will lighten. Can we say, rewrite your goals black folk. Rewrite them if you haven’t already. And don’t become complacent… Michelle, she can hold her own for sure and is a wonderful match for Mr. Obama. And going back to your swag article. You’re real right on the Will Smith comment, lol.

My president is black, my MARTA card is blue. Jeezy also said it’s a recession and and “I need a vacation.” Needless to say, his accuracy game is on point right about now.

I’m past excited and encouraged that Obama was elected, but I just hope we all support him past those extra creative T-Shirts, earrings, hats, socks…condoms…hubcaps…etc, lol. Let’s hold him down!

Loved the article!

Well my Black fist is still in the air…wait, it’s been up there for awhile. Michelle Obama inspires inspiration and Mrs. Carter has indeed made it cool to be bi-polar.

“Earlier this summer my good friend and I got into a fiery discussion about honorary whites- you know the black people that even black people forget are black. While he insisted that Cuba Gooding Jr. was the whitest black man on earth, I argued that Tiger Woods far surpassed him in all categories of whiteness.”

Now, LowKey—I know this is supposed to be a joke, but I feel like this statement is ignorant. What is ‘whiteness’?? I feel like people making statements like this one are the reason why we are still in that ‘race element’ now. We Black folks are the first ones to say something about “Oh, it’s b/c I’m black’ or ‘They racist’ or whateva—but we talk about it more than anybody. I COMPLETELY understand what it feels to be discriminated against, but it IS true that many times Black people don’t want racism to be directed towards them, but are quick to throw it at others, or even people in their own race.

And also, if you do your homework, you’re find that the Civil War was NOT about slavery. It was initially fought because the south seceded from the Union and sought to start their own country. Lincoln would not have this and so they went to war. LATER, the issue of slavery came up but the INITIAL issue of the Civil War was keeping the Union together. It wasn’t about black people at first. Lincoln just decided to free us: 1. B/c he was receiving backlash f/ his republican party b/c of not addressing it and 2. B/c he knew that would fuel the north to fight even harder. 3. He also knew that by freeing the black slaves, he would automatically have their vote and be able to serve another term [unfort. he died b4 this happened]. He was even quoted saying, “If I could end this war by not freeing one black person, I would. But if I have to end this war by freeing the slaves, I will”. Also, the Emancipation Proclamation did not even free allllll slaves. It only freed slaves in the REBELLIOUS states and this document was signed but was not even in full effect until AFTER THE WAR WAS COMPLETED….months later.

P.S. Also, Beyonce has BEEN talking about having 2 sides to her [Sasha and Beyonce] since her DC days. Baby, you GOTS to look up your info. She did it before T.I. [not w/ the album, but w/ the concept]

Sorry!!! I addressed LowKey thinking it was him. I’m just so used to him being the poster. But um…I’m addressing ‘B.Fleezy’, whoever you are…and oh YES:

MY PRESIDENT IS BLACCCCK!!! MY KIA RIO IS REEEED!! lol

ND has an excellent black studies program Said on

I wouldn’t usually respond to such foolishness but “baby you GOTS to get a sense of humor.” Possibly you are an honorary white or Will Smith is your cousin-whichever it is….calm down- your fingers are doing way too much.

About the civil war- Have you ever heard of the Missouri Compromise? Had everything to do with slavery, had everything to do with free states vs. slave states, had everything to do with regional balance and had everything to do with the civil war. You are saying the south seceded but WHY? Answer that question and then rewrite your response.

And even if you truly believe that the origins of the civil war had nothing to do with race/slavery- then you should still understand that the outcome was the supposed liberation of slaves. I believe the point still holds true then- the civil war is having the best week ever because finally its intent is being realized.

Beyonce is the new T.I. Said on

And yes Beyonce has been talking about her personality on stage being quite different from who she is in real life for years- but that is quite different from coming out with a double disc album to represent those two extremes. Unless she had the idea patented then she could have and should have came more original cause T.I. beat her to the punch. Not only in the theme but also in the marketing of the idea. It was just over a year ago that T.I. presented his two selves on the MTV awards- that should have been a red flag to your girl B. Hope that clears things up a little bit for you. You GOTS to think a little deeper than the surface

Briana Said on

First, I Absolutely dig the article!!! Secondly, my Lambo is also non-existent, but if it did exist It would be metallic dark green. Barack Obama is very much so amazing and then to have a wonderful woman to stand BESIDE him, what more could we ask for as a nation.

This is your best friend...AMT Said on

B. Fleezy strikes again! On that funny -ish as well as that Graff-inspired/ ND-groomed history tip. Loooves the article!

domi Said on

Maybe Obama’s nomination will mean I won’t be the only black person in a “TV ON THE RADIO” rock show considering it was sold out and the band is primarily black.
