B.E.T. You Haven’t Heard This: Chrisette Michele & Ne-Yo

Chrisette & Ne-Yo do what they do! I remember when I first heard Chrisette’s “What You Do”- well actually it was Ne-Yo singing the reference and I was totally oblivious to the fact that it was her song. But I do remember the first time I heard HER sing it.
Def Jam hosted a showcase for the songbird at the Canal Room in NYC several weeks back and “What You Do” was the second track she performed. About 7 seconds into the track, I said to myself, ”I’ve been singing this song for the past 3 months. He wrote this for her?”
I don’t know if it was because I was slightly intoxicated or singing word for word at a new music showcase, but the stares were coming from every direction as if I yelled “Obama is the worst president in American history.”
Anyway, “Epiphany,” Chrisette’s newest offering, a pensive effort Ne-Yo assisted her with, is slated to hit stores later this year. However, Def Jam has already quietly spilled out two singles for the effort. Hopefully, “What You Do” will get the rightful recognition it deserves.
As a bonus, I’ll also link you to Ne-Yo’s reference track for the song. At times, I find the reference to be better than the original piece…but hey, that’s just me. Shouts to Young Kingz for the alley-oop.
