Kanye locks down his “Love”!
Before this track premiered on Sunday night, a couple of my lucky cohorts had the opportunity to preview the track (don’t ask me how and who, cause I can’t tell you) and from what they told me, the track wasn’t up to par. Ummm, I BEG to differ guys!
At first when I was told he was singing with the Auto-Tune vocal enhancer placed under his vocals, I damn near threw up the apple I was scarfing on at the moment. My source even said, “Yo, if he releases this song as a first single, the project will seemed rushed, cause this isn’t first single material”. And while I did agree with his sentiment about Kanye rushing his project, I had to stray away from the ‘first single’ comment, because honestly, when was the last time Kanye put out a single where he was worried about the reception?
Since hearing the track for the first time last night, (long story) I’ve been hooked. I can tell you RIGHT NOW that this is going to be one of those life altering songs. There is something mysteriously odd about this tune, but I’ve yet to figure it out and to be quite honest, I want to keep it that way. Maybe it’s the repetitive 808 drums that won’t quit, or that eerie ass piano melody that changes every fourth bar or even the African warrior drums that sound like they belong on the intro to a reality show based in The Madagascar.
Forget the traditional; Kanye took a SERIOUS detour this time around. It’s sort of like when he went “Ultra Travolta” at the Grammy’s several years back…..everyone had their black tuxe’s on and this dude had on attire from John Travolta’s, Satruday Night Fever. Just think of that moment, but in a music mind set.
Not only does this heighten my excitement for what the studio version is going to sound like (it was supposed to be released yesterday) I can’t even IMAGINE what this man has cooking for his 4th Lp. Anyway, if you haven’t heard it by now (I’ve only slept 7 hours in the last 3 days, spare me) here’s the live version. ENJOY
