Oh, if only I was in charge of the Grammys this year. The dramatic potential for the 50th Annual show is crazy now that both Kanye and Amy Winehouse have been nominated. Kanye, a multiple award nominee, now faces the prospect of going eight for eight but without his beloved mother. That’s the stuff that great TV is made of. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to dis a brother who’s suffered such a tragic loss. But don’t lie…you will be glued to the TV whether you ever watched the Grammys or not…just to see if he has a total meltdown.
Now, on to Amy “Rehab” Winehouse. I think Grammy night would be great if they put Kanye and Amy together for a special duet of “Can’t Tell Me Nothin’” that segued into “Rehab” with a special appearance by Britney Spears. You know you’d watch! The question is, given the photos that have surfaced of Amy lately (on the street barefoot, shirtless and crying, or taking her pants off in a car with powder evident under her nostrils) will she even show up to collect her awards?
One person we know won’t be there to collect an award is triple nominee T.I. His only option is to send out thank-you speeches via his website streetcred.com. We just hope he actually dresses for the occasion this time instead of his last dispatch from home in bathrobe and doo-rag. I mean, we know the brother is stuck in the house, but dayum.
At least we know we can count on multiple nominees Common and Jill Scott to class up the place. What I’d love to see is MJB, who is nominated for songs with both Aretha and Chaka, to just do an all-diva jam – throw in Jill, Beyonce and Rihanna and just blow the doors off the Staples Center. Now that would be a Grammy night to remember.
Wonder if the Grammys will do something in the way of tribute for Pimp C? There are more than enough Houston-based performers to make that nice. But maybe we should save that for the BET Awards. I’d like to see Beyonce, Kelly, Slim Thug, Paul Wall, Letoya Luckett, Chamillionaire, Scarface, Lil’ Flip and of course Bun B (did I leave anyone out?) give a brother his props.

I loved everything you said..except for when you threw Rihanna into the “diva showdown”! lmao! She would f’ the whole thing up! Baby girl is cute..she’s a studio singer though. Now take her out and put Alicia Keys in..that would be off the hook!!!

Kanye yes! I’ve been to the Grammys and they’re more fun when you’re there then on TV. If they would only add the artists with the truly real talent then ratings would increase and people would be interested in watching.

I think thatWhitney Houston should be added to the “diva showdown” and Erykah Badu they both have ablums that are coming out sometime in 2008 or the end of this year! Oh and maybe Mariah Carey

You are wrong for the Kanye comment, what an idiotic, rude, harsh and aweful thing to say about that situation, no one tuned in to see him have a meltdown, they tuned in to see him rip the stage and give out great performances like he usually does.
