Jamie Foxx Says Auto-Tune Is NOT Dead

June 19th, 2009

Of course it’s not dead…..it’s still living on one of the BIGGEST songs in his career! I’m pretty sure we’re all tired of the “Death of Auto-Tune” chit chatter, but I think we’re missing commentary from a couple key figures of the apparatus. For obvious reasons, most of us agree a majority of the industry has abused the T-Pain effect.

And while each R&B singer that’s  hopped on the Auto-Tune bandwagon received the “Ok” to do so, EVERY rapper that’s used it HAS NOT.

Foxx, whose usage of the device made his single, “Blame It” one of 2008/2009’s favorite tunes, stopped by BET and spoke out on Jay-Z’s sentiments toward “Auto-Tune” and where he thinks Jay is going with the “DOA” message.

“Is Auto-Tune dead? No Auto-Tune is not dead. But, that’s Jay-Z and Jay-Z is…..I understand what he’s doing in the hip-hop world. However, when it comes to just music, and I’m a huge Jay-Z fan so I’ll ride with whatever he says, I don’t think the song (”Death of Auto-Tune”) is meant to tell everyone that’s using the Auto-Tune to stop what they’re doing. You can’t stop a movement. I mean what T-Pain has started, it’s eventually going to run its course. But when it comes to real MCs, Jay-Z never has to do another record in his life, you know why? Even with “Blame It,” as good as it is right now, it will never hold a candle to Jay’s “PSA” [Foxx begins to rap the intro to "PSA"]. None of that. He doesn’t have to. What he’s doing is, he’s challenging hip hop. He’s challenging those guys who are simply relying on it and that’s what basically hip hop is. As far as Auto-Tune goes, look at what T-Pain does; T-Pain is phenomenal with it. All in all, it’s all different avenues and all different lanes. But for Jay-Z, that’s a GOD when it comes to hip hop, so I’m going to ride with him no matter what.”

Pretty much. Now all we need is for T-Pain to weigh in and we can cease existance on the topic. Hmmmm, maybe Jamie and T-Pain will revive the Auto-Tune during a special performance at the 2009 BET Awards. What do I know, I’m just a blogger. *Shrugs*

Big shouts to Kim O for conducting such a dope interview. View the rest RIGHT HERE!

Good Morning! Jamoe Foxx… “Jamie Foxx says auto- Tune is not Dead”

I would like to add to the above comment of Jamie Fox who I am a strong fan supporter of that a movement will run it course whether its a long term or short term movement it is still a movement. However, movements can be shorten to the point where it almost did not exist due to it being very very short. In addition, this type of movement can very well be a deliberate or unintentional act regarding being a short term movement due to the powers that be. So, the bottom line is can you stop a movement? And the answer must be if you are the deciding factors regarding the powers that be or have control over them to a point where you can end the movement when you want to end the movement whether its based on financial resources or something else will no doubt make you the individual who represents ” the powers that be “. And, since music for audience to here by way of marketing applications are normally geared for music that are considered intellectual properties which are created by one artist or more for the sole purpose of getting paid from regarding their creation(meaning music) by way of various marketing channels thanks to technology which ensures effective sells for artists to get paid is considered if this is correct the primary venue and ruling factor that is no doubt considered the powers that be. Then, it is safe to say as an example if Jay Z again as an example has influence over the marketing channels then he would be” the power that be” to stop a movement . Please be advised that I use the phrase ” powers that be ” for a lack of a better phrase. I hope this explanation was helpful in understanding a clearer meaning for ” movement ” as well as provide a general scope of a movement’s capabilities .

autotune needs to die in hip hop i dont care about the singers using it
but if you rap
rap

shaketa Said on

i think it is okay to use, but dont over use it. i think that T-paine is the only one that can use it in every song cause live he can sing. so to each is on

I personally think Auto-Tune should not be use at all because it shows lack of real talent when it comes to singing. And Rappers like Jim Jones , kanye, Wayne, Drake and the Dipset group members need to stop using Auto-tune.

I remember back in the day when the Rap and R&B was ecclectic across the board unlike now. Jamie Fox has a point but I wonder what Zap and Roger and old school artists think concerning this matter.Hopefully, real soon the music will shift and less artist will jump on the auto-tune bandwagon because its hot right now. Longevity speaks volumes in the music industry especially new artist so hopefully they will continue to reinvent their craft in an economy where a wait and see approach is evident. Peace!

Jamie is an unfunny ass…he needs to get over himself. MJ must be cringing watching this no talent brother.

Hey Jamie, I was so disappointed in your tribute, and how you make fun of white people; lets move on man. You could learn a thing or two from Michael Jackson, he believed in all colors of children. Also, you didn’t lend him to anyone, Michael Jackson was a child of the Most High God. Get over yourself, I wouldn’t go see anything your in. You need to be humble, Michael Jackson was a class act, learn from him, your brother, my brother. I look forward to real tribute, on a man who was about peace on earth, and love for all mankind. From a sad fan of Michael Jacksons

Just saw the BET AWARDS-four words for Jamie-PLEASE GET SOME CLASS.

someone should have told Jamie Fox not to try and sing a MJ song, he sucked and so did everyone else that tried. They need to run the tape and be honest with themselves. This was not a tribute to MJ it was everyone trying to get in on the sadness for themselves.
