Keri Hilson: “We’re Not Paid To Be Parents To Our Fans.”

April 17th, 2009

new-image1In A Perfect World, Keri Hilson is just as normal as you and me! Usually when I liberate excerpts from new magazine issues, my post contains a detailed journey from the secret newsstand to my BET desk. But since I have such reliable industry cohorts, (shouts to Nakia Hicks for this one) I didn’t have to move a muscle for this fresh issue of J’adore Magazine with Keri Hilson on the cover.

Judging by Keri’s commentary, it seems like the songstress had a couple of issues to get off her pretty little chest. Clearly unhindered by outside perception, Keri offered her opinion on being a role model to her fans and how “real” music lies within the lyrics of her material. Check out the excerpts, below!

Keri Hilson on being an artist….

“It’s important for us to be role models for our fans, but this is the entertainment industry and artists are not paid to be parents to our fans. We are not perfect. We are human beings just like our fans. Our music reflects us as a person and how we feel when we write a record. Our music also shows how we may be dealing with a situation at a particular time. Things happen in life. Why should we be exempt from the common compassion that a person receives who is not in the industry?”

Keri Hilson on “real” music…..

“It’s funny. Some people say they want to hear someone real, but some artists do not even write their own songs. Some artists do not even meet with the songwriters that sell them their next big hit. So, if you appreciate the music and understand the realness of a true artist, then check  In A Perfect World…..I have songs that anyone can relate to and they are from the heart”.

Well damn Keri, I can definitely dig that. However, it was somewhat cheesy to add a shameless plug at the end of that second excerpt. If you would’ve included some of your favorite artists first and then your material, it might’ve been a TAD bit more believable. No worries, I still want to have an R&B love child with you.

Sincerely

Low “Keri…..YOU ARE MY EVERYTHING” Key

How is she talking about making real music but her voice has been autotuned to death on Turning Me On?
Secondly, she’s a song writer but she didn’t write all the music on her album. Neyo and The Dream wrote every song on their albums.
Those are songwriters I can respect.

So she’s a songwriter who doesn’t writer her own hits and a singer who uses autotune. Her PR team need to market her as something else because it’s not adding up.

The more interviews I see on Keri the less I like her.

Just because an artist didn’t write EVERY song on their album doesn’t mean anything. So she used autotune on a track. EVERYONE is using autotune… So what… There are plenty of tracks she didn’t use it on and her vocal skills were on point. I re-iterate what I read online… Haterism is the best form of support cuz no matter what, you still talkin bout her and more people are gonna listen her.

she is something else. her ego is 10x bigger than her album sales…

She’s beyond a diva already.. she’s cute but eaves a bad taste in my mouth when I see or hear her.

Tisk, tisk. Well im my opinion the fact that she used autotuned doesn’t matter to me. She is really talented. I agree maybe if she would have said some of her favorites she would have looked more humble. Kerri Hilson has been on my umm list for some time. Some of the things that come out of her mouth is unseemly. I respect the artistry within her. People, before you go writing your ignorant comments picking apart everything she is, take the time to acknowledge that she is a young black woman who is doing her thing. Kerri, I think you should work on being humble. You come off a little rocky. You are not paid to be a parent to your fans. But without them you would be nothing. But you are something. You are a star within its formation because those FANS out there believe in your craft. They deserve nothing but humbleness and respect from you. With that said im outty. I think that sometimes we as individuals read too much into what superstars say. She is right, She is not paid be parents to her fans, she is paid to entertain and be a great entertainer. And I dont believe she isnt humble, she is speaking what is real. if she says something different then she isnt being herself. Plus look at the publicity she is getting for just running her mouth. Keep doing your thing Ms. Hilson. Keep progressing. http://www.myspace.com/g_mp

I think she is the ultimate in extreme hating. She may have written some songs but that doesn’t make her any more of an artist than someone who buys their music. And another thing, her going after beyonce in that remix is a good way for her to commit musical suicide.

Swfree Said on

Oh please, the biggest artists of all time haven’t written their own songs, it’s nothing to be ashamed of especially when you have undeniable talent, but like one of the comments said, she leaves a “odd” taste after listening (IMO). A great example of an artists with undeniable talent but doesn’t write is Whitney Houston, although she is the most awarded woman in music. “However, it was somewhat cheesy to add a shameless plug at the end of that second excerpt” That was corny LOL. I like her music though.
