Nas Gets “A Life”

July 15th, 2008

It was a private affair that should’ve been marked, public. Alife and Nasir Jones teamed up for an intimate showcase for Nas’s diehard advocates. I arrived toward the latter part of the festivities, but yet, I still felt like I was there the entire 3 hour span (the show started at 6).

I wasn’t really prepared for what I was about to embrace, so I went in head first thinking, hey, it only can get better….I mean it’s Nas for crying out loud. I walked in, passing by an assortment of sneakers. From Reebok to Jordan’s, they were all lined up in a glass casing. I strutted to the outside portion of the shop and was greeted by a flock of Nasir Jones enthusiasts. Dressed in a Zara top and some slim Old Navy denim slacks, let’s say I felt outta place. But with Nasir on the mic, I felt pretty comfortable; I mean he was shouting, “Where my white niggaz at, where my Chinese niggaz at?”

I posted up near the back entrance and I was spotted by a concert goer, “Aren’t you LowKey?”, as I recorded some Nas performance footage. I replied, “Yes sir”. He hit me back with a cheerful “That’s what’s up homey”. Nas kept his show potent, but warm and friendly in the same breath (don’t ask me how). Running through his catalogue as if he just produced it yesterday, Nasir stumbled on a couple verses. However, this is an individual who named his album “Nigger”, so I’m quite sure a couple missed punch lines were the least of his worries!

I don’t know if Nas recreated himself or what, but his ambiance was fresh and his attitude was upbeat. The fans felt it and Nas loved it. Of course, a function isn’t complete without free alcoholic consumption and Belvedere provided plenty of it. Hell, even some of the attendees provided some uplifting herbery to mellow out with (smell soooooo good lol)

Miss Info, DJ Green Lantern, Fabolous, Sean Pecas, and Lenny S all accompanied Nas during his performance, some of which enjoyed the show more than the actual fans. All and all, it was a great night for LowKey, a great night for Nas and definitely a great night for hip hop!

Oh and Soulja Boy iz a little punk. All he do iz make dance songs. And they get played out the second they air on the radio. I mean thiz dude is too early to be talking smack. He should focus on his own stuff furst. Prove u good if u got beef to cook up. He aint nuttin in my eyes. NAs bringin it back. And yea hip hop wuz dead. I dont care what other ppl say. Anybody can sag their pants, grab a ?#$, and spit nursery rhymes. This dude is aming the greatest lyricist such as Common, Talib, and Q-Tip. I mean hands Down yea’ll. He a Boss! Much props.
