New Kids on The BlockSeptember 8th, 2010
Coming up we had Another Bad Creation, The Boys, Kris Kross, Immature, and so many others that we listened to religiously. I was almost losing hope that the kids of today would have artists that were actually their own age to bop to. Kids are definitely growing up too fast listening to music made for those college age and older, but it seems in the last year it has started to change. With the success of Justin Bieber, and the emergence of Diggy Simmons, it seems that there is a boom again in child musicians getting mainstream love as a whole and not simply crowning one child as the prodigy of this era.
The next batch of young artists to look out for are:
1. Mindless Behavior
Prodigy, Roc Royal, Ray Ray, and Princeton are too cute and remind me so much of Another Bad Creation. The group is signed to Conjunction/Streamline Records/Interscope Records. Check out the video for their first single, “My Girl.”
2. Willow Smith
She took the internet by storm yesterday when she dropped her first single “Whip My Hair.” The funky track goes right along with her red carpet attire and rockstar hairdo. This 9-year-old has more personality on this record than a lot of artists 3x her age and just inked a deal with Roc Nation.
3. Gabi Wilson
She’s been a YouTube sensation for a while, plays several instruments, has been featured on several talk shows, and joined Queen Latifah on stage during this year’s BET Awards to help introduce Alicia Keys. Just 12 years old! Check her out:
Now here is a bonus for you. I haven’t heard a full song by the kid so I can’t really see his potential or future as an artist, but P-Nut is definitely taking Memphis by storm being a 7-year-old rapper.
