Is Plies hip hop’s next fibber? HipHopDx thinks so.
What in the world is going on this year? First, Akon hit us with the SERIOUS pumpfake about his prior convictions, then Mr. Richard Ross issued a fib about his previous employment affairs (and got his CARD pulled)…NOW, Mr. Certified Goon himself, Plies, is at the center of HipHopDX’s attempt at blowing his thuggery cover.
If you’re familiar with Plies’s catalogue, then you’re aware of his “GOONISH” vernacular and how often it’s used. Though the investigation isn’t exactly closed, HHDX did pull some interesting facts from Plies’s previous law entanglements. Check out what they found….
“The FDLE’s criminal record for Plies shows that the self-described “goon affiliated, ex drug dealer” who’s “resume solid, street cred bigger” has been arrested just twice within his home state of Florida during his adult life, with both arrests taking place two years ago. The 32-year-old was arrested for the first time at the age of 29 on April 12, 2006 for the misdemeanor charge of resisting an officer without violence.
The latter of his two adult arrests came during a well-publicized shooting at a Gainesville, Florida nightclub after a Plies performance on July 2, 2006. According to reports, members of the rapper’s entourage, including his older brother, Ronell “Big Gates” Lavatte, pulled out guns and fired in the club after Plies, who’s performance was running long, became angry when his microphone was cut off so that Lil Boosie could begin to perform.”

Plies a goon depending on the situation. Have u ever paid attention to his interviews when he do them. He speaks with very good intelligence, but when it comes to “rapping”, he talks like he dropped outta high school. To me the cat is an R&B rapper. I put him in the same category as 2 pistols and young berg. Peep game, have u ever notice that when he release “HIS” single, its always a love song. Every single from both cd is a love song. But he a goon on everybody else song. Anyway, why the hell would u want to be a goon? I guess people are trying to commecialize that word like pac did with thug. But in all the movies i have seen, goons be the dumbest cats in the movie that does all the dirty work for the boss.
you dont have go to jail to be a goon. we dont really know what this man been through. we wasnt around him all his life. i feel plies is doin it right now

well, I don’t glorify goon-ary, but on the topic of Plies…maybe he really is a goon and maybe he’s not. Why is it that a thug has to have done some LONG, HARD TIME in jail, in order to be considered a thug? If you ask me, a SMART thug/goon, does his/her dirty deeds and NEVER get caught! Now, that’s a thuggish move right there, if there ever was such a thing. I mean, why are folks’ thug mentality being judged on time behind bars? There are many folks in jail right now, who are NOT thugs. Some of them folks have just been at the wrong place at the wrong time, and is now serving hard time. I believe that a person can too be a thug, and never face any time behind bars.
what i don’t like, however, is when rappers come out LYING like their thug record consists of hard time behind bars, when most of ‘em ain’t been in jail no longer than a week. Why lie? If you ain’t no gang banger, that’s all good. All that means is that we have one less person to worry about robbing up, shooting us up as we sit on our porches, etc, etc!
What’s wrong w/ rappers going the Will Smith/Kid N Play/Father MC/Heavy D routes in rap? THose guys never rapped about smokin’ nobody, but I’m sure that if they were put in a situation that called for a little thuggishness, they’d – just like the other CALLED OUT thugs – would RISE TO THE OCCASION and handle their business. Heck, the way I see it, a true thug don’t go yappin’ ’bout what they do, and what they can do. Real thugs are thugs by nature, and they let their actions speak for themselves.

Thank U! It couldnt have been said better! There are a lot of thugs, gangsters, and whatever u want to call them that dont have long jail records, going to jail does not make u, and there r alot of people with long jail records that claim goon, thug, or whatever but r neither! The truest thing that i have seen anyone post on here is Real thugs are thugs by nature, and they let their actions speak for themselves! in other words, sometimes tha loudest is tha weakest!

None of us knows what Plies has been, we are not personally or intimately close with him, so we really don’t what goes in his mind. I believe that there isn’t a thug that walks this earth who hasn’t done jail time, if he hasn’t then he’s probably six feet under or he will do it, For him to be arrested for the first time at the age of 29 and serve that little bit of sentence is almost a blessing versus people who get in jail for “a hundred years”. I listen to all of Plies’ music, I, personally, won’t characterize him as a fake. Based on that, I conclude with an agreement from what Leslie said, coming from music and music articles like the “no-life” journalist who wrote this… Big up to his haters though for real… I bet if he read this, he’d be laughin…
