Question of the Day: Lil Wayne
August 15th, 2008
Someone thinks he’s great, but is it too soon?
Alright, so this debate’s been occurring for the last 24 months and it probably won’t end anytime soon, so we might as well dive into this ish, head first. Usually, I stay silent whenever this rhetoric (yea, that’s my new favorite word) is being held. Whether it be on the corner, the barbershop, the studio, the office or wherever I’m at during the moment, I usually keep my four cents to myself. But it was during the debut of Jay’s, “Dope Boy Fresh (Jockin Jay-Z)” on NYC’s, Hot 97 when the question/theory was rasied, yet again.
Funkmaster Flex was conducting his usual banter in regards to how exclusive he is for having the Jay track before any DJ in the city, as well as the universe (dude was extremely hype, lol..but it made for awesome radio). But minutes after his loud mouth antics concluded, he shifted gears to, as he puts it, “Students of Hova”. Of course, Wayne was mentioned within the cluster and Flex made sure his listeners knew how he felt about the Young Money Mogul. “It’s too early, it’s too early”, Flex suggested. And by too early, Flex is simply referring to a line Wayne mumbled (I sometimes have a difficult time understanding Dwayne, lol) during his duet with his superior, Jay-Z, on “Mr. Carter”, a track off of Lil Wayne’s multi platinum effort, The Carter 3. “And next time you mention Pac, Biggie, or Jay-Z Don’t forget Weezy baby!” says Wayne of his new found greatness.
And while I don’t take away from Wayne’s artistry, or whatever he calls it, for some reason I’m getting the vibe that it’s too early for that type of talk. Anyway, I’m assuming you know what today’s question is, but I’ll ask it anyway. “Does Lil Wayne deserved to be mentioned with Pac, Biggie & Jay-Z this early in his career”? I’m fully aware Lil Wayne is the best thing smoking since bottled apple juice (I dare you say otherwise, lol) and this is DEFINITLEY not me hating, just a question that I want answered by some of my Sound Off readers.
So what it’s Friday, this is Lil Wayne we’re talking about……….act like you love him and respond in a timely fashion, please!
Sincerely

Wayne is entertaining and fun.
but he still has some ways to go to get into a groove i can really appreciate.
there is no denying that he works hard for his achievements.
Nothin against wanye but hes not great yet
he used to be one of my favortie rappers until the carter 3 came out..
it goes like this, first you gotta be more specific , greatest of what? I think he ’s the greatest at gettin radio play. Rappers of the past did everything and then some that lil weezy is doing now. Grand Pupa riped r n b tracks before anyone else thought it was cool to do, and he never said he was the best, he just flowed to the track. I like to know who judges these so called statements , someone down the block from Weasy , or someone his age? No matter what age you are , you have to know your whole history of rap like me ! I am a hip-hop phanatic, ask me anything and i will tell you the honest truth, because i am not blind! I am a fan of Weezy, but their are also underground cats who do even more then him, like my man M F Doom! Check him out .. oh yeh i my self is gonna enter the hot sixteen contest…So i should be saying im the best…
FIrst let me say this. Jay is really good but only recently (like the past 8-10) has he been hot. Does that mean he is one of the greatest? The same with wayne. They both are really good, but I can’t say either are the greatest. I give much more props to the undergrounds rappers than the mainstream. I love biggie and pac but I can’t say they were the greatest either. I think they were hip for the time and then when they died, and the way they died We gave them legend status. They were hot for the time and like nothing we had seen before, but I don’t think that they reached legendary status. Just something new status, so are we giving them the greatest status b/c they accomplished something new, or were they actually great. I think it was just something new and we liked it. I think we should require that these rappers not only bring something new that amaze us but also consistantly show and prove that the are worthy of the title. I think Jay is still on his way to doing that and so is wayne. Mad Props to both!
EVERYONE WONDERS WHY HE IS SO GREAT AND SOLD SO MANY RECORDS, WELL IT IS BECAUSE HE KNOWS HOW TO MARKET HIMSELF INLIKE MANY OTHERS IN THE GAME. HE WAS ON EVERYBODY ELSE TRACK FOR A REASON. THE MORE YOU HEARD HIM THE MORE YOU LIKED HIM OR DIDN’T NETHER THE LESS U STILL WENT OUT AND GOT HIS ALBUM TO QUESTION THE HYPE. IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH HIM PUSHING HIS ALBUM BACK, I STILL WOULD’VE GOT IT REGARDLESS. IF HE DROPPED ANOTHER ALBUM IN A MONTH PEOPLE WOULD FLOCK TO GET THAT TOO. SO GIVE HIM HIS PROPS.
H is the best and he dose it big all the time so go ahead and do you thing
I THINK WHEN WAYNE SAYS PUT HIM WITH PAC BIGGIE AND JAY-Z. HE’S JUST SAYING HE IS IN A SPOT WHERE NO ONE CAN TOUCH HIM,CAUSE ALL OF THEIR STYLES ARE DIFFERENT. I DON’T THINK U CAN PUT ANYONE WITH PAC THOUGH CAUSE THE MAN PUT OUT 150 ALBUMS AFTER HIS DEATH. SORRY I DON’T SEE ANYTHING CLOSE LIKE THAT
Wayne been duin his thang…alot of people been sleepy! since “lights off “…he’s “been” spittin as serius as he does now…it was just bigger objects blockin the mans shine! wen everybody left cash money, they recognized that Wayne was the last one left and started really paying attention to da mans work ethic and now that he runs cash money…an continues to give the world hit after hit ppl argue about the mans position in hip hop! he’s as talented as Pac ,Big and J! All of those guys are the truth…in there own way! but they all fall in the same catrgory as the greatest to do it! Wayne deserves it…I mean wut does he have to do…die…before the world exept that fact! So yea i agree wit Wayne! even tho J’z tha best on my list !
I think Weezy do deserve to be up there with the best because if u ask me wat did Pac and Biggy do to be up there labeled as the greatest i dont even think either one of them sold a million copies from either one of their cds so to me i think WEEZY like the person above me said before wat do he have to die just to labled as the greatest!
i kno itz hard
hey how r u mr.loli
YOU LOOK Sooooooo fine in this picture
HE DOESN’T HAVE THE RECOGNITION TO BE CALLED THE BEST RAPPER ALIVE. HE CAN’T EVEN COMPARE TO KANYE WEST LET ALONE THE LARGEST NAME IN HIP HOP TO DATE JAY-Z. JAY-Z WILL FOREVER BE THE GREATEST AND HE HAS THE CREDIT TO PROVE IT. LIL WAYNE GAVE HIMSELF NAME, COPIED WHAT RAPPERS BEFORE HIM HAS DONE AND NEVER WROTE A RHYME IN HIS LIFE. NOTICE WHEN HE IS ASKED TO FREESTYLE HE ALWAYS QUOTES LINES FROM HIS SONGS BECAUSE HE CAN NOT FREESTYLE. THE BEST RAPPER ALIVE IS JAY-Z AKA HOVA. HE WASN’T EVEN AROUND LONG TO BE IN THE SAME CATERGORY AS 2PAC, BIGGIE AND JAY-Z NEITHER NAS. SO YOU GUYS ARE TALKING FOOLISHNESS.
i dont think its to early for wayne to b compared to the pac and big i think itz no limit to what wayne can do
tupac was 25 when he died.
lil’wayne is good at singing but please don’t ever put on too much effort bragging and making other singers bad about themselves of a new singer….. one of my favorite songs he sang was lollipop, and can’t believe it with t-pain. These comments are so sad!! Anyone brighten it up plz!!
