Question of the Day: Neyo or The Dream

December 1st, 2008

We love their wordplay, but who’s better????

In the case of me having to actually pick between the two; I probably would pick Neyo…only because his first album was during my last relationship and it basically told the entire story of how it played out. Just had to let you guys know lol…

The only difference, statistically, between the two is Neyo’s album count is already at three, so experience already ways heavy on the side of the Arkansas native (yes, Neyo is originally from Arkansas). In the past 2 years, both Neyo and The Dream have massacred writing pads with their unique penmanship showing no mercy for each other or the competition.

Neyo’s infectious material has channeled more so the opposite sex’s perspective more than the male’s, at times. Beyonce’s, “Irreplaceable” became a massive female anthem signaling every dishonest man to the left. And let’s not forget his breakout hit, “Let Me Love You” crooned by Mario back in 2004.

But on the other side of town The Dream, who began his writing tenure in 2003 after penning “Everything” for B2K, has also kept dance floors packed and radio airwaves filled via Rihanna (“Umbrella”), J. Holiday (“Bed”), Mariah Carey (“Touch My Body”), Mary J. Blige (“Just Fine”) and more recently, Beyonce (“Single Ladies”).

Both are capable of writing hits for themselves and others, but it’s something distinctively unique about the both of them. Neyo’s material is more relationship driven; the heartaches and pains deriving from that particular situation. While The Dream, who can also channel the relationship commentary, has a bit more fun laminating the raunchy side of things (See Usher’s, “Trading Places”, lol). But hey, those are just my observations.

Time for the debate: Who Is A Better Songwriter; Neyo or The Dream?????? Having a hard time deciding? No worries, I’ve listed a throng of joints both artists have written in the last 3 years. ENJOY!

I’d have to say Neyo. Neyo’s not a one-hit wonder!

I’d say Dream… his music is not depressing and seems to be able to connect with any artist for a different type of sound

Blu'Diva Said on

Are you serious?! I’m an Arkansas native too, but I’m going with the Dream hands down! I am an 80’s baby, and I love the sound that the dream and his associates capture. It’s so retro.

I like them both they both have good music but I prefer neyo over the dream cause neyo has that suave swagger about him that I like. They r both very talented songwriters, I had no idea the dream wrote that many song some of them r my faves

MUWGirl Said on

NE-YO!!!!!!! He is the answer to this question hands down!! His music is about love and real issues that NORMAL human beings go through. Some of The Dream’s stuff is not too hot, and it doesn’t stand out. I can hear a song and know right then if Ne-yo wrote it or if he sings it. I can’t do that with The Dream.

It’s Ne-yo of course, but only by a little, though becuz both r very talented songwriters. Ne-yo has dat smooth swagger dats cool which transcends to his musik which iz y I lyke him. But da Dreams songs r different they’re very funky, original, n retro. P.S. I did not kno dat da Dream wrote Single Ladies!

Jose Said on

I would chose The Dream cause no one has that type of Voice, but both r cool like Ne-yo’s swagger is cool.

I like NeYo as a songwriter but I think the The-Dream is my personal favorite. There is just something so unique about him. Sure, NeYo can write a baaad song now [bad means good right now...duh, get it right.. lol] but there are so MANY people who can do that. Being able to write a hit isn’t what makes an artist unique anymore, but making a hit is what many artists can do. But being able to take a song’s lyrics, and tweek them so they just pick at the brain and make you want to listen and read the song over and over again—that’s The-Dream 2 me. Not taking anything away f/ me, but he always sticks to classic. The-Dream takes the classic-hit-making-song-writing thing to something totally different that the fan base can accept no matter what it is. He makes me want to buy his album and look up the lyrics. NeYo just makes me want to CHECK OUT his album on Lymewire or Bearshare or something. I’m not saying he isn’t hot—but he just doesn’t capture my interest.

My pick is The-Dream. But you know, this is real close. I think this one is just all about preference.

I THINK NEYO WINS THIZ ONE BECAUSE HE IS A INSPIRED WRITER HE WRITERS FROM WHAT HE SEES AND THINKS AND HE PAST AND FUTURE HE PUTS ALOT OF THOUGHT INTO HIS WRITING HE WITES SONGS FOR HIS FANS ,HE WITES SONGS THAT IN THE FUTURE ARE HIT RECORDS AND ARE ON TOP OF THE BILLBOARD CHARTS AT NUMBER 1 SO ALL YALL HATIN ON NEYO KEEP HATIN CUZ HE IS GOING TO KEEP GIVING HIS FANS HIT RECORDS WHETHER YOU LYKE IT OR NOT
