What in the world happen to Nelly?

Nelly’s fifth album Brass Knuckles dropped last Tuesday, September 16th and well…nothing. Projected to sell less than 100,000 albums his first week, it seems our favorite Missourian has lost his mojo.Sure, sure I’m the first to admit his current Sean John Underwear campaign makes up for anything and errything he is lacking musically, but to quote The Clipse “(bird call) what happened to that boy?”
Now please don’t start singing “Hi Hater” to me. Back in the day, I was a Nelly fanatic. When, on Midwest Swing, he sang “what you think we live on the farm, Ni**a be for real!” it brought tears to my eyes and joy to my heart.Being from the Midwest, the most musically misguided region of the country, Nelly was a source of bragging rights. Us Midwesterners no longer had to remind people that the Jackson 5 were originally from Indiana, we had Nelly. So what happened?
Nelly has released three singles from this album and even if I was forced to choose between reciting a lyric from one of those songs and being a contestant on Flavor of Love, I couldn’t do it. And neither could you. Which brings me to the question of the day: Which multi-platinum, superstar rapper will be the next to fall off?
Now I know these are hard times in the world of record sales, but really I expect more. Longevity in hip-hop is clearly not guaranteed to anyone, and with upcoming releases from some of the genres finest including, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Kanye and Ludacris, this should be an interesting question. I’m usually right, but what do you think?

i totally agree with u, i jus think rappers have changed they used to rap about from the heart bout what they felt, bout wot they were truly thinkin, now its all about sales and money which is sad coz thats nt TRUE Hip Hop. also I’m nt a hater but everyone knows Nelly was not the greatest rapper out there, but he still gt catchy tunes. also i dont think they done enough advertising to promot it. another thing is its 2008 ppl are now downloadin (illegally) so jus coz sales are down dnt mean ppl aint listenin 2 his album, for a true hip hop artist that should b the most important thing.

I think folks are too busy trying to compete with soldier boy who is almost single handedly ruining the game, than trying to rap from the heart. They are rapping to make money and unfortunately dance moves and wack lyrics are what’s selling these days…
so i just wonder why his record label thought he was going to sell that many records when his singles are not in heavy rotation on the radio?? lets be real is it really a surprise??

Too much R&B and not enough DOWN AND DIRTY!! That’s why Lil Wayne, 50 cent, Jay-Z, Ludacris, Young Jeezy, Kanye West., and the Game have had big sales. I’m a Nelly fan too it’s Just most of the guys I named worked together and Nelly didn’t have many heavy hitters on his album. But still a good album and i expected it to do better than 100,000. But who cares good music equals good times, so let the good times ROLL!
I think that Nelly is a pretty good artist, has a lot of swagger, and has had alot of goot hits. But where i think he went wrong is when he started marketing his songs with Ashanti. Beautiful girl, cute couple but there no Jay and B. I think that they tried to imitate them. Nelly could have possibly hit jay-z status eventually, He had a lot of potential to get there, but Ashanti, lets face it, shes never will be on B’s level. Thats where he messed up! I just think that when she came out she just simply wasnt ready, and still isnt today. The only thing she has is looks and no talent. I think the next to fall off is Usher! I just dont think hes made a comeback the same. its time for him to stop. Another is Lupe F. As much as i love him to death. Its just something missing. Hes tring ing to comform to white amercia.. I dont like it. LL cool J aint going nowhere he’ll have longevity as long as he lives.

Its time for Nelley to change his musical style. All his songs are beginning to sound the same. He needs new flava…………………….As we know with all things with time comes the “new and improved”. Even Tide had to make their detergent new and improve. We need something new and improved. Ask “Muzic” who just gave his R&B flavor a little bitty twist of Hip-hop and what a new dish he has cooked up.

Universal Messed it up for nelly why do you think that it took so long for his album to come out ? check youtube for the interviews where nelly talks about the song wadsyaname that is wasn’t even meant to be a single but that due to the contract he had to come with a single I’m just a 100% certain that he will get another deal like with atlantic or sumthing for this dude has sold more than 30 millions albums he ain’t stressed I mean just look at the hits of ”party people” on youtube sure it didn’t show up on the charts thats just because it wasn’t pushed right i’m mean 5 million+ views there are song with like 1 million views and they are considerd hits nelly is gonna come back with a real banger and come brass knuckles has a few ‘LA’ is A Gem Hold up with T.i.
