R.I.P. Jam Master Jay……
October 30th, 2009
The legacy still lives on…….It was seven years ago today that Jason William Mizell (Jam Master Jay) was tragically taken from us through a senseless act of violence. Unfortunately, authorities have yet to apprehend Jason’s killer, but the hip-hop community still has the utmost faith justice will be served.
Until that day arrives (and I’m sure well after), we will celebrate Jay’s legacy in the culture of hip-hop. If you’re not sure of JMJ’s musical background, let’s take a trip down memory lane for a minute. In 1982 Mizell joined Rev Run and Darryl McDaniels to become the official DJ for the then unknown Run DMC trio.
To make a long story short, the three made music, forget hip-hop, history by being inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in April of 2009 becoming only the second rap group to ever receive such an accolade.
As for Mizell, his musical legacy will forever live on. Not only was he proficient in DJ’ing, but he also played the drums, keyboards and live bass on all of the RUN DMC projects.
Sidenote: RUN DMC was the first rap act to ever grace the cover of the Rolling Stones.
RIP Jam Master Jay
Sincerely
Low “We Love You, JMJ” Key
