Terribly dissapointed with BET…..again!!!
This was no special tribute…at all
SHAME ON BET !
I can appreciate that the show would have some mishaps because the death of Michael Jackson caused them to do a different show in a matter of days. There were some good moments though. The very last of the show, however, was HORRIBLE. To have that Little Wayne number as the finale was the very worst…somebody needs to get fired over making that mistake as the finale. The lyrics of the number had to be bleeped off, and those young girls on the stage…SHAMEFUL.
I usually tape the show and watch it over and over, but this one I am going to DELETE right away.
BET and Deborah Lee should be ashamed. The show was terrible, tasteless, and a horrific depiction of Black America today. Tonight’s show was a lame attempt to take advantage of Michael’s tragic passing by calling this show a tribute to the “King of Pop.” However, Jamie Foxx’s mocking Michael was not in tribute, but truely making a mockery of his name. BET has a social responsibility and medium to postively impact the African American community and everytime they continue to personify the negative within our community. In the first year of President Obama’s term that’s the best we could do?? What happened to the charge for African Americans to step up. BET has continued to be a disappointment. Deborah Lee should be terminated, we will commit to stop watching and advertisers should pull money out of the station.
I think BET tried, but it is nothing that they could do to match the magnitude The nation and the world needs time to mourn the loss of this human being. He wasnot just an entertainer he was a spiritual leader, a quiet King who had bestowed upon him a gift from God that everyone knew was not natural but supreme. The hurt and pain from his loss has brought down a power that we sometimes took for granted. I feel the President of the United States should have brought the world together to honor Michael. No performer on that stage could substitute what he meant to the music industry with or without an album, with or without a video. I can see myself laughing, gigling, and joking around at a time such as this. We must stop everything and honor this gentleman in the highest degree. He is part of every family across the world and it is going to take sometime to understand what reaaly happened that took his llife so suddenly.
What was BET thinking putting Little Wayne, Drake , and that other idiot in the line-up, and why the finale for God’s sakes? The song they chose was full of curse words , the “F” word and the “N” word . And allowing underaged girls to participate definitely sent the wrong message. Not only was this an insult to the viewing audience , But it was an insult to Michael’s memory. BET , what do you have to say to America and to the world as to why you allowed this to happen?
It’s a difficult, confusing, wonderful, yet, awful, complex, while simple….event to consciously process….The BET award show, did well with the complexity of what has so recently happened and the very unfortunate timing of such.
In retrospect..I can only find my true resolve in creative processing of my feelings and emotions thru the manifestation of all of the above….

BET’s tribute to Michael Jackson was HUMIILATING, DISGUSTING, DISRESPECTFUL, RIDICULOUS, SHAMEFUL, HORRIBLE, and DISORGANIZED. Debra Lee what the HELL were you thinking? If you call this a tribute, you need to be FIRED!!!!!!! I have not watched the BET Awards in years and after this display of ignorance and vulgarity, I see why I will NEVER, EVER watch it again. We as “black people” have come to far, to act like we AIN’T got no sense!!!! The only class acts in the show was Maxwell and Alicia Keys. The young people need to take notes and lessons from these classy people. And what the HELL was up with Ving Rhimes. There is no correlation or comparison with Michael Jackson and GUNS – Michael Jackson was a peaceful humantarian. SHAME ON YOU Ving Rhimes was disgracing Michael Jackson’s memory. BET and Debra Lee — SHAME, SHAME on you for disgracing Michael Jackson’s memory and disgracing the Jackson Family. I do plan to write a letter to BET to express my disappointment in the tribute to Michael Jackson and to the HORRIBLE programs that BET airs to exploit black America, instead of airing programs that lifts us up as a people!!!!!
JAMIE FOX BLEW IT!! HE HAD THE POTENTIAL TO MAKE THIS THE BEST BET AWARDS SHOW BUT IN STEAD HE CAME OFF AS BEING RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL! I COULD HAVE SLAPPED THE CRAP OUT OF JAMIE UP THERE MAKING FUN OF MJ THAT WAY IT IS WAY TOOOOO SOON FOR THAT; MY GOD THE MAN’S FATHER WAS SITTING IN THE AUDIENCE! STUPID STUPID STUPID!!!! AND FOLKS LOOKED SO STUPID EVERYONE WANTED TO DRESS LIKE MJ AHH! I’M VERY DISAPPOINTED IN BET AND JAMIE FOX!
BET ought to be ashamed of that ’supposed TRIBUTE’ to Michael Jackson who is the greatest entertainer of all times. How could you not dedicate time and quality attention to him? The artists were disrespectful, cursing and obnoxious. Michael’s family deserves an apology and so does the audience that loves and appreciated this man who gave so much to the world. I am deeply embarassed for BET and I surely hope that the rest of America will do what ‘BLACK ENTERTAINMENT TELEVISION’ was supposed to do and celebrate and give him his just due. White America will probably honor him better than you did. What a shame!!!!!
The BET 2009 Awards Show was disappointing, disrespectful, and not worthy of the tribute to Michael Jackson. This show did not represent the man that entertained millions and it did not display his professionalism. MJ never used foul language and what kind of image does this leave for our younger generation to remember him. I thought this show was so disgusting and ghetto. MJ was a man of honor and was known and respected by many all around the world. Is this how we show respect for our own during this difficult time? It was not entertaining at all but it tearful. And, the reference to his “baby mamas” whatever!!! Jamie Foxx should be ashamed of himself and I were Mr. Jackson, I would have walked out. What a mess and BET, I am not interested in viewing your station anymore. You are really going down hill and the entire show was trashy.
this show was BAD I was looking for a Michael Jackson tribute but I got a young LOW LIFE`s show. NEXT time MS Lee get some old school ARTIST with class maybe motown.
the only good thing about this show was when Janet came out to thank the many fans and to represent her family. She sounded intelligent and her voice was clear and articulate, you could truly see she was hurting.
I would like to say that I’m speechless!!! So I guess we have to wait on MTV, VH1 or the Grammy’s to put on a good show and honor MJ properly. Jamie was so none funny and the artists who performed at the show, other than Neyo put me to sleep. You could have done better by playing a video of MJ’s life for the entire show. Was this the best you could do BET? My family and I are so upset because BET should have represented the Black, R&B and Hip Hop community better than it did. I guess MTV will have to show you how. Please take the many compliants in to consideration when planning next years award show. Thanks.
This is exactly why I rarely watch anything on BET. There is nothing of substance that comes on this channel. The BET Awards gave me just what I thought I would get nothing.
if you cant do any better , get some one that can . that shown made we very sad ,and pissed .
I SHE WHY MICHEAL BLEACH IS SKIN I AM NOW TOO ASHAMED

bet has never been for the betterment of black americans.now it is run by viacom(white people) and its a profit machine evermore.look at the shows lined up for fallare modern minstel shows.boycott BET. we are better than this example of baffoonery displayed last night.thank God for the o’jays.an example of our greatness and what we truly are-beautiful people.shame on BET.Fire Debore Lee now!
Generally, I am impressed with the BET Awards. However, this year’s award show was not only distasteful but so………..very disappointing. I understand that BET only had 3 days to re-arrange the show in order to pay tribute to our King of Pop! However, if you can’t do anything with class and decency which Michael Jackson represented to the fullest well then don’t do anything at all. Yes, it was our opportunity to honor him but unfortunately this was an opportunity missed yet again as many loss sight of the real reason for the celebration! First and foremost the talent that performed last night with the exception of Beyonce, Drake, Jamie Foxx, Jay-Z, Mary Mary/Queen La, Keyshia Cole/Monica ‘Mighty…Mighty’ O’Jays, Maxwell, Neyo speaks volumes to the current state of the entertainment industry. Why is it that the majority of the R&B acts that performed with the exception of the mentioned names could barely hold a tune. The Hip Hop Artist were extremely ‘WACK’, the profanity was uncalled for and why on earth were those little girls on the stage prancing around dancing to Drake’s ‘My Everything & Every Girl’. This was just inappropriate especially considering the explicit language, profanity that is used (listen to the lyrics peeps) and how it perpetuates women in general. Now, I really like Drake but those special guest runied the performance with all of that profanity. He was better off performing alone! BET we have to do better. The entire night you recycled the same artist (ie. Neyo and Jamie Foxx — not saying they were not good by no means). I know that you could have found other artist to pay tribute to MJ besides these two. What about Usher, Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Hudson, Faith Evans, Mary J. Blige, Jill Scott, Anthony Hamilton, Musiq, Carl Thomas, Dream, Will Downing, Gladys Knight, Smokey Robinson, Chaka Kahn, Genuine, Tank, Tamia, India Irie, Angie Sitone, Stevie Wonder….etc (real artist that can actually sang and perform/true entertainers). You could have even called R. Kelly and Chris Brown. I know they have had their legal troubles but at least we would have seen a solid performance and they can actually sang. I hope next year that the awards show is better and not rushed. BET was so busy trying to rush and pay tribute to prove a point to the media that it was a train reck waiting to happen. The only genuine performances that payed tribute to MJ came from Beyonce, Neyo and Jamie. Remember the entire world (US and Globally) watched last night and we left them with the same negaitive images of African Americans that is consistantly perpetuated by the media. Again, BET we must do better! We are definately better than this and should not continue to allow ignorance to ruin our race. What an opportunity missed and embarrassment to our culture. We need to move pass this ‘GHETTO’ mentality and act like the beautiful, sophisticated and intelligent people that we are!
I don’t think the show was that bad!!! Yes, BET could have given more of a tribute to MJ. I think they should have played the full part of the MJ and James Brown video…that would have been an awesome tribute to both legends! Yes, Jamie made a spoof on doing MJ moves, but that’s how Jamie chose to give tribute. He is a “comedian” after all…so, to those that were upset…lighten up! Laughter is also how you give tribute to someone. Laughter heals the soul! I agreed that the Lil Wayne & Drake performance was ridiculous. BET bleep out words they didn’t need to bleep out and made the performance horrible! And why was the kids there? What was that all about?
