The King of All Fashion Shows Is Here!

Since Fashion Week has come to an official close, it’s only right that we (BET) end it off with an impeccable amount of Black Star Power. I can’t reveal too much about the show because of the powers that be hovering over my fitted cap, but I can tell you T.I., The Dream, Fabolous, Mavado, Keri Hilson, Busta Rhymes, Ron Browz made this year’s show unforgettable.

I really hate doing blogs where I can’t reveal too much information about the show I actually attended, but have no fear, I got some incredible backstage footage/interviews with Bobby V, Young Steff, Pleasure P, Maino, Young Dro, L.A., Ron Browz, Natasha and Mavado, so make sure you check back later this week for the clips. I can honestly tell you that this song has officially taken over every night club from here to Tokyo. Don’t believe me, slide in a night spot, observe the environment before the song is played, while the songs being played and after it concludes….TRUST ME!

Jamie recently announced “Blame It” as the official second single (the video is coming shortly) and it prolly won’t help the competition that they added Busta and Weezy to the unofficial remix. Just think what’s going to happen on the OFFICIAL REMIX! OUCH!

Saturday, Angie Martinez, DJ Enuff and Cipha Sounds hosted Hot 97’s, Holiday Bash at Nassau Coliseum in Long Island with performances from Nina Sky, Ryan Leslie, Jim Jones, Kid Cudi, Juelz Santana, Ludacris, Young Jeezy, Busta Rhymes, Ron Browz and T.I.

Though I’ve seen each artist perform at least 3 times since taking this job, I can tell you standing 3 feet away from the stage gives you a COMPLETELY different vibe (I.E. getting water thrown on your camera, having fire sparks fly 2 inches past your upper lip). BIG BIG BIG shouts are in order for Lesley Hope from N’Somniatic Entertainment Group and Big League Entertainment, who produced the show!

And you know what the best part about all of this is, I don’t have to talk you to death about who performed (I’ll save that for the other side of town, lol), I can easily show you, below. ENJOY!

Since her single is doing considerably well, I’m hoping Interscope is planning her release for January 09. It would be completely moronic on their part to release it any later because honestly, unless they have a single featuring Hov or a duet featuring Whitney Houston, rebuilding a buzz at the top of the year could be an incredibly difficult task.

Now I know a couple of people have been ridiculing the tune for its harsh gestures towards the Islamic culture, but what happened over in the UK just might make its way over to the states. Word to the Mirror in UK, a DJ has been suspended for spinning Busta’s hit tune, “Arab Money”. Galaxy FM, a radio station which broadcasts in Birmingham and Yorkshire, suspended resident DJ, Steve “Smooth” Sutherland, after receiving a number of complaints after the song was aired.

A spokesman from the station said, “Both the DJ and producer have been suspended pending a full inquiry.” Aint that some ISH???? Look what you did, BUSTA!!!! SMH

Watch out U.S. DJ’s, you know this could trickle down to you guys SOON ENOUGH!

What do you guys think???? Is “Arab Money” too offensive to be playing on public airwaves????

And then it happened; it was RELEASED….and, dare I say, I liked it. I can’t, nor will I try, to convince you this is the best remix of ‘08. However, the All-Star line up did entice me (Flashback to Craig Mack’s, “Flava In Ya Remix”). Regardless of how much I like the song, I still can’t stand the original version. Sorry Busta! Anyway, enjoy this Thanksgiving treat while I head upstairs to devour everything and anything that comes within arms length.

Low “After dinner I will start my quest for what the hell the chorus means” Key

A funny thing almost happened before last night’s show; my ass almost didn’t get in. Last week when I received the invite, I quickly responded to the respective email, only to be told “This list is CLOSED”. “Noooooooooooooo” I screeched in agony, (I was asked politely to shut the hell up moments later) this can’t be….I will NOT miss the party. So, like a 16 year old brat whose older sibling wouldn’t let him play Playstation causing him to run to his mother so she could override the decision (I hate my sister, lol), I quickly hit my boss, who then hit our big boss. To make a long story short, I’m now writing this On Location post, still slightly worn out from last nights festivities.

Not only was the event an album release party, but it also doubled as a free MySpace concert (the line for that entrance made me SICK to my stomach it was so long), which made thing more festive and interesting. After swiping two wristbands from the door lady who I continuously flirted with, (”Can you put that on for me, I’ve had a long day”), Dre and I skated inside, snatched two alcoholic beverages and posted up till the show started.

Bearded women (ugh), two brawny midgets (they scare me) and a brown tender roni poppin her touché on some 6 ft high stilts (Hey pretty lady), T-Pain really turned Hiro into his own personal circus. He opened the set with an explosive, but brief, set to Kanye’s,” Good Life”. And since I was at the bar getting another round, I would’ve missed the opportunity to record Kanye if he actually came out, but he didn’t (WHEEEW!)

Pizzle ran through some more hits (tooo many to name) and even summoned a couple of his superstar brethrens to the stage for some fun. Maino was the first to hit the stage performing, “Hi Hater”(WHAS GOOD,Niles) Then, Diddy, draped in a black bubble coat, pitch black shades and a grey skully, helped Pain serenade the ladies on “Shawty” sans Plies. “Excuse my appearance” explained Circo Obama (Diddy). “But I’ve been running around crazy helping Barack Obama do his thing”. Pain promised Diddy he didn’t have to work, so he retreated backstage to enjoy the rest of the show.

Taking it waaaaay back, TP gave an energetic performance of “I’m Sprung” (I hated that damn song) which drew a surprisingly overwhelming response. Memphitz (he discovered T-Pain), host to BET’s new show, The Deal, came out for a short version of “Pop, Lock and Drop It” (I love doing the G-5 under the influence). Busta and the entire Flipmode Squad showed up to familiarize the audience with his new single, “Arab Money” (*Dead*) and even broke out a tongue twisting performance of “Break Ya Neck”. Pain said at the conclusion of Busta’s set, “I have friends, I have lots of friends”.

Terrence J from 106 and Park came out to talk his ish, but it was nothing compared to who Pain brought out shortly after. DJ Khaled emerged from the behind the stage hopping around like the energized bunny he is and went straight into the chorus of “I’m So Hood”. I’m sure you could guess what he said at the end of his set and if you can’t, take your pick. (Ace Hood coming Nov 18th, We Global, We The Best, Unity….etc.)

After tickling the ivories during “Can’t Believe It”, Luda slid onstage for “Chopped and Skrewed” and his current single, “One More Drink”, which Pain is also featured on. To end the night, Pizzle brought out one of his memorable numbers, “Buy You A Drank”, which easily won the crowd over as soon as the first finger snap echoed through the venue.

As for Busta Rhymes, there really isn’t much to say. Not only did he remind us how dope of an MC he is, but his performance skills are TOP NOTCH; the BEST ever (Yeah, I said it….PROBLEM?). I swear, I love Busta Rhymes to the DEATH, but “Arab Money”, I can’t and WILL not tolerate it. Besides that minor setback, Buss-A-Buss ran through classic after classic without hesitation. He also announced his new album, Back On My Bullsh*t (B.O.M.B.) will be hitting the streets February 10, 2009. *Prays to the heavens that “Arab Money” doesn’t make the project.*

As of late, the duo is constructing hits for DC hip hop rookie, Wale, Fabolous, Busta Rhymes, and a flurry of others. Last week, I had the pleasure of sitting in on one of their creative sessions for my new segment, “Studio Sessions”. Since LowKey used to dibble and dabble on the production side of hip hop, I found this studio visit extremely exciting. Seeing them create magic on the spot reminded me why making beats was so much fun.
