C’mon guys….REALLLY????*Disclaimer* Alright, let me just state something real quick before I even start my rant about the mudslinging going on in the video below: I’m a huge fan of all four of these dudes pictured above. I respect their work, what they’ve done for music as a whole, and everything else in between. In no way is this post a reflection of how I feel about them overall, but these are my SPECIFIC feelings pertaining to the video below.

Ok, so I hit up Miss Info’s page a few minutes prior to see what she had cooking on her side of town and saw something intriguing. I read her commentary and thought, “Ok, Johnta is talking about Jazmine Sullivan’s Twin Towers again, nothing crazy.” But the more I read, the more I became puzzled…until I saw the actual video.

Let’s be clear, I’m all for anyone and everyone voicing their opinion on topics that bother them (an exercise you’re observing now), but when it begins to drag on for minutes upon minutes, well, it’s perceived as the highest level of hate.

Now I’m a fan of JD and his “Ocean’s Five” crew because, to be honest, these dudes are entertaining and love to have a good ol’ time. Slick commentary, continuous alcohol consumption, endless nights of festive behavior; AWESOME. Hell, JD’s YouTube series even generated an interest in his career that A LOT of people didn’t care for (Yeah I Said It).

But when these five fools thought it would be interesting to do an 8-minute video about how fugly Christina Milian’s new look is….well that sh*t is just absurd. Yeah, I’ve said some harsh things in the past around these parts, but NEVER directed it at anyone’s personal appearance, only at the craft they produce for the masses. Am I a fan on how shorty doo wop looks?? Of course not, but that’s what SHE chose to do.

Now, if we’re going to nit pick at appearances, let’s make sure the people around us are in tip-top condition. Example #1: Tameka Foster-Raymond! Aye Usher, you might wanna back up off C.Milian’s new look because last time I checked, wifey wasn’t THAT easy on the eyes. I mean, let’s be real, shorty’s more manly looking than Madea (Yep, I SAID IT). And aren’t we a TAD bit too old to be sporting the scullys with the brims???

Johnta, it seems as though shorty didn’t wanna thumb wrestle with you so in return you thought it was necessary to clown her, huh? You do know how that makes you look in front of the industry, right? Boo Hoo, Christina turned you down…GET OVER IT! Shouldn’t you be recording an album that was supposed to come out when JD still had his door key over at Island Def Jam? (SHOTS!)

And JD, I could’ve SWORN you just made a blog where you vividly explained how lame it was for people to comment on sh*t they didn’t like. Maybe I’m tripping. Nah, I’m not because your exact words were, “What type of ni*ga would take the time to come to my site, look at the blog, read what’s going on and then write a dumb ass comment?” Word, JD?? It seems to me, you and your buddies just did that to the 10th power.

Look fellas, leave the gossip ish to the gossip bloggers, PERIOD. Info was right, pull ya skirts down and handle your business in a MATURE manner because this right here, in the words of Tyrone, AIN’T IT!

Sincerely

Low “If Usher’s album is wack, we’ll know EXACTLY why” Key

P.S. Aye Johnta, I bet your ass you wouldn’t be making those Chris Brown/Rihanna jokes had that been your sister or daughter…NOW WOULD YOU???

And the mud slinging begins……A couple days ago rumblings of JD being ousted from the golden hallways of Def Jam were circulating throughout the internet and of course, I took notice. Joking, I suggested, “That’s what he gets for recording all those Living The Life webisodes…talking with his hands and sh*t. That man was never in his office, lol”. I’m now coming to believe that notion has become a reality.

Now since JD was moving in silence in regards to the so called “termination”, I figured it was nothing to take serious; a mere disagreement amongst the high powers over on 49th St. But, when I saw this headline in an email blast yesterday, “I haven’t spoken to LA Reid in three months”, my “Ahhhhhhh sh*t” radar hit OVERDRIVE.

JD sat down with ESSENCE.com and briefly explained the break down, if you can even call it that, between him, and LA Reid, “I haven’t spoken to L.A. [Reid] in three months. I don’t know if it’s amicable [considering] that they claim they put me out. I feel like it’s not amicable. Don’t lie, be real about the situation. It goes back to their having the attitude of let’s try and do something that’s going to hurt this person, because if it hurts us we have nowhere to go after this, but he does and has at least another 20 more years in this business. Again, if L.A. [Reid] gets fired, there will be at least another ten people who will also get fired and we’ll never see them again. Def Jam is like one big clique.”

“Def Jam is like one big clique”= ZING!!

Upping the mud slinging anty, JD even called L.A., get ready for this….JEALOUS, “I don’t know. I saw a side of him that I had never seen before and that to me was a jealous side. I don’t know if I should be around people who are jealous of me. Mariah Carey sold more records in that entire Def Jam building and all of that was through my singles; so I’m looking like the golden boy. I only started thinking about it after I left.”

Where. What. Who. Why. When. How………I want all those questions answered ASAP. Where did the communication break down? Was Reid jealous of his relationship with Mariah? Did he despise the little lucky charm for wifing Ms. Jackson? Did L.A.’s request to be in one of JD’s, “Living The Life” webisodes get turned down because he wasn’t hip enough? So many questions, so little information.

What do you guys think? What happen between JD and “The Clique” (The funniest thing JD’s ever said in his LIFE). Where does that leave his So So Def imprint? Go head……..SOUND OFF!!

Sincerely

Low “Dear Def Jam, When hiring an executive, make sure they DO NOT have a YouTube channel.” Key

Can JD help Usher return to greatness? Let me just say if Usher’s next album isn’t up to par, I think it’s safe to say he’s completely lost it. Here I Stand wasn’t a bomb dropped on the industry like Confessions was, it was the case of the ball being dropped. Don’t get me wrong, he had a couple cuts on the project that made some noise (”Trading Places”, “Love In This Club” ) but everything else practically enhanced my ability to press the next track button.

Sharing the same sentiment, Jermaine Dupri, one of the masterminds behind Usher’s epic Confessions Lp, is gearing up to work with the R&B titan starting January 16. JD made the announcement during his latest “Living The Life” YouTube webisode. Dupri said while sipping on a glass of red wine, “I’m starting on Usher’s album January 16, so episodes of “Living The Life” starting on January 16 will be about Usher’s album; how it’s taking place and what’s going on with it.”

Could this possibly mean Usher’s presence will be once again felt significantly in the R&B realm? In addition to JD assisting with Usher’s return, our modern day BabyFace, Neyo, will also lending a helping hand on Usher’s sixth album. Back in November, Neyo was the first artist to publicly reveal his true feelings about Here I Stand (slide over here to read). What would really be amazing if JD added Neyo to his Dream Team of writers and producers ( Johnta Austin, Brian M. Cox) to help Usher get back on top.

Can JD, Usher and Neyo create the ultimate project??? What are your thoughts????

Sincerely

Low “Neyo, JD and Usher???? Hmm, that’ll be interesting” Key

Dondria goes in for round 2 and this time Bow Wow came along for the ride…. Let’s try this again, from the top, shall we? One day JD was on the internets doing what he does (I still haven’t figured that out yet) and came up on this southern belle who sing her little heart out. He courted her on Myspace, but she basically told him to kick rocks and keep it moving. After finding out it was really him, she got with the program, flew out to the A, and signed with JD & his So So Def Imprint.

After several months of bickering about what her stage name and album title would be, Dondria finally released her first single, “Can’t Stop”. Though the tune was an above average attempt to garner an audience outside her YouTube fan base, the consumers weren’t convinced, yet. So after heavy evaluation, JD and Dondria went back to the drawing board, conjured up some more groovy concoctions and here we are. Without further ado, I now present to you……

Bow Wow…HUMBLE??? Nahh….Can’t be! We all knew from the very first time we laid eyes on this young pup, he would easily develop one of the largest chips to sit on his shoulder once he grew into his fame. From receiving a co-sign at the age of 6 from Snoop Dogg to being crowned “Mr. 106 Park and dating one of the hottest chicks in the game, Bow Weezy would sure enough diddy bop through any city like his doo doo didn’t stink, lol.

But as the young pup grew, I’m assuming valuable lesson after valuable lesson finally found a way into his thick skull and assisted in the development of this mature young man we see before us today. Hell, Bow even admitted it in JD’s latest “Living The Life” Vlog (Video Blog) entry. “I had the big head” Bow admitted. “Being at that time and at that moment, from the first mishap, I felt that I learned everything from Jermaine. I had the ear for music and I felt like I knew everything”.

With that said, I felt like a Top 10 would coincide perfectly with this moment. Without further ado, I present Top 10: 10 Reasons Bow Wow Isn’t Cocky Anymore! Oh and remember, these Top 10 lists are ALLL in good fun, so please remove the “LowKey is a hater” notions from your brains, PLEASE?

10. Jermaine Dupri dresses better than him, sometimes?

9. He recorded an album with Omarion……

8. He’s too old to posses a Napoleon Complex.

7. He lost the title of “Mr. 106 and Park” to Soulja Boy. OUCH?!

6. Game tapped that ass in Madden Football within 10 minutes…..

5. He realized if he kept popping that fly ish, JD would EASILY find another light skinned kid from Columbus, Ohio to make famous.

4. Once you address bloggers, it’s allll down hill after that. And once you address video vixens, it’s REALLY downhill after that…..

3. He made a song called “Marco Polo”. Playing Peak-A-Boo with Soulja Boy in a pool full of females isn’t a good look…..

2. He got caught cheating on Ciara. You can’t posses any cockiness after that…..

1. And after he got caught, 50 Cent went and gave her a comforting hug…..with his shirt off….ON TV!

After suddenly falling ill hours before her Montreal concert the other night, Janet Jackson, 42, has been released from Royal Victoria Hospital, a rep confirmed with TMZ.com, earlier today. Two hours after being admitted to the facility Ms. Jackson caught the holy ghost and got the hell outta dodge (translation: she feels much better, now). Though details of Janet’s illness have yet to be revealed, she was treated for whatever it was that knocked her out.

Good to see Janet’s rhythm nation wasn’t derailed too long.

Beef is getting played out, NO MORE DRAMA!

It’s come to my attention that in the last 24 months, hip hop has become friendly; weird right? Not that I condone hip hop warfare, but it’s mind boggling how all of a sudden one minute two rivals are penning viscous responses and the next they’re recording songs together. Maybe it’s this recession we’re enduring or the fact that Sarah Palin doesn’t have the slightest clue as to what the Bush Doctrine is (so sad).

Regardless, rappers are making amends, and it’s happening at the speed of light. First, Jay and Nas kicked of the “Hip Homey” brigade by ceasing the peace at Power 105’s, I Declare War Concert. The two lyrical prophets graced the stage; hugging, kissing and rapping each other’s songs to the pleasure of 20,000 screaming hip hop advocates. After that, it was all down hill from there (in regards to hip hop beefs). Now, I’m not going to sit here and address each beef that was resolved in the last year and a half (Jada vs. 50 Cent, T.I. Vs. Shawty Lo, Ludacris vs. T.I. to name a few), but I will list the active beefs that still plague our mixtapes, radio shows and hood dvd’s.

Active “Beef” List

B.I.G vs 2Pac (Forever unresolved)

So So Def had it’s 3rd Annual Summerfest this past weekend, and yea, it was a busy weekend, to say the least! So I’m sure many of you heard about JD’s So So Def Summerfest down in Atlanta this past weekend right? Of course you did, it was probably the best thing going on in the industry. And while I was TOLD I would be given ALL ACCESS, that was a vast fib, but of course, LowKey turned his lemons into some sweet tasting lemonade.

Thursday, I scurried over to the JD’s Celebrity Bowling tournament at 300 Bowling, and that was pretty much a good time. Copa, SoSo Def’s National Mixshow Director made sure I was good at the door, but by the time I arrived at the venue, it was swarming with attendees so my photo opps weren’t that easy, but I snapped what I could get. I also snagged some video, but that’ll be up later in the week. Polow Da Don, Nelly, Dru Hill (yea, I’m just as shocked as you), Neyo, 9th Ward, Dondria, Q Da Kid and many others were in attendance.

Friday, Club Dreamz was all the “ACTION” was at, lol. Apparently while all the celebs were partying it up having a grand ol time, a loud sounding POP was heard throughout the club. Now according to some, it was a stereo speaker that popped, but according to others, a club patron let off a shot that grazed a security guards elbow because he was being double charged to get into the VIP area. Theory time. First, if someone was shot in the club, WHY in the HELL would they lock everyone inside the venue? I mean, that’s the story being passed through the industry as of late. Common sense would direct everyone to the exits in calm matter, not lock them inside. Second, being that there are over a DOZEN celebrities on hand at this high profile event, how in the HELL did someone manage to sneak a handgun INSIDE the club? A friend of mine informed he was searched THREE times before even entering. So to put all this to rest, TRANSLATION: The security guard who shot himself, was shot by his own gun. END OF STORY!

Saturday, JD’s Celebrity Basketball Game took place over at Morehouse Gymnasium. Fortunately for the kiddies, no security guards were brandishing any hand guns at the time (Joking, JD). JD, Bow Wow, Chris Tucker and the The So So Def All-Stars went up against Nelly, Avery Storm, Larry Huges and St.Louis Derrty Ent. All-Stars, which resulted in a So So Def victory, 105-96. ATL whipper snappers, The Showstoppers performed at half-time bringing out their boss, Soulja Boy for a surprise performance.

Later that night, The White Party commenced over at the Woodruff Art Center in midtown. Yes, LowKey was decked in all-white (courtesy of the easy pickings at H&M several hours before, lol). I would have to say, hands down, the all-white affair was pretty much the best event of the weekend. Bow Wow, Nelly, JD, Avery Storm, Chris Tucker, Lil Jon, Gabrielle Union, Sana Lathan, Kevin Hart (who was draped in an orange top and blue jeans) attend the function. I don’t know if I’m tripping, but I think I was sporting a “HASSLE ME” sign all night, because wherever I set FOOT, I got the same vernacular, “Who are you with?”, “Why are you filming?”. Regardless, I did what I had to do. I swear, you guys should have seen the face of the PR rep when she saw I gained access to the VIP area, when she specifically told me I wasn’t allowed to record for the rest of the night. Dah whatever, I was there to work, so that’s what I did!

Anyway, here are some pictures I attempted to snag over the weekend. The big homey Nigel D of RealTalkNY also took some pics for the kid since everyone wanted to look at me like I had 5 heads when I asked for a photo opp. ENJOY!

Sincerely

ATL’s Hip Hop Mayor, Jermaine Dupri and his So So Def Family are taking over Atlanta, GA this weekend.

For the third straight summer, JD and The So So Def Family are gearing up to lock down the streets of Atlanta with JD’s Summerfest Weekend. The big bash commenced with a nice lil bash at Body Tap, but since the activities at that venue are somewhat inappropriate for the pages of SoundOff, I think I’ll let you guys find out what went down, lol.

Tonight, JD and The Fam take to the lanes of the popular bowling alley, 300, for a celebrity bowling tournament. Nelly, Polow Da Don, Bow Wow, Chaka Zulu and a slew of others will be in attendance. Make sure you report back to BET.Com early next week for pics and maybe some exclusive video footage.

Tomorrow, So So Def and Diddy will host the Welcome To Atlanta: The Remix at Club Dreams. Saturday, Morehouse will be the place to be as JD and his superstar friends host a celebrity basketball game in which all proceeds from the ticket sales will be distributed to charity. Following the game, a super fresh So So Def White Party will go down at Woodruff Arts Center hosted by Nia Long, Gabrielle Union, Regina King, Sana Lathan and PLENTY of other SEXY ladies.

In Atlanta, and have NO idea where to get tickets? Head over to SoSoDefSummerFest.Com for allllllll the details.

Sincerely
