The Culprit Pt.3

July 23rd, 2008

You knew it was coming…Joe Budden has finally returned with the third part to his “Who” series. Again, I picked out a couple unique lines and quotes from this particular part. Sit back and digest what Joe Budden has conjured up this time around. Also, check out this extensive interview of Joe Budden breaking down his infamous “Who” series!

“I know it had to do something to it’s heartbeat/when Lady of Rage started doing Steve Harvey”

“Some of us aint prepared for something so lucrative/I just heard Yung Berg say some stupid sh@t”

“Some disagree, some gotta see the same/maybe hip hop died on Aaliyah’s plane”

“Did we get fucked up when producers found a way to cheat/signing unknown ni**az to start makin they beatz”

“Everybody want in the game, so in return/ You got label executives f*cking they interns”

“And anybody looking at that new Vibe bracket/should see they dont know a thing about this rap sh*t”

“Regardless, it’s our fault as artist running with entourages who act like they aint never left the projects.”

“Is it overcrowded/they keep sayin if its so f&cked up, then do something about it….i doubt it”

“Maybe we built on some thing that will last forever/seen Face and Geto Boyz just got back together”

“How are we in coma/we’re the only business that can excel without a diploma”

“Or here’s another bright idea to entertain/let’s go and put our face on the bottom of a chain”

“We’re socially accepted, deviated our old route/to simplfy the term, we all sold out”

“So we Kurt Cobain’d ourselves if we defeated/next they ask who killed it, tell em we did”

The Culprit…Part 2

July 11th, 2008

Rarely do we ever get an artist to step outside himself and create material using the vision of a spectator instead of a bitter individual. When I first posted “The Culprit”, I didn’t anticipate the reaction. But to my surprise, it sparked a bit of a feisty dialogue in the comments section. I LOVE IT! Well, Budden has now issued part 2 in his search of “Who” killed hip hop and when it was laid to rest.

For the record, this addition to his catalogue is in now way a form of hate, just a record that’s pointing obvious issues that alot of us and artists tend to look past. Usually when these attempts are made, the figure responsible tends to digress from the point at hand and their entire reasoning becomes invalid. “Who” part deux picks up where part one leaves off. Impressively, Budden doesn’t loose his footing on the sequel, in fact, Jersey Joe makes it his business to address the fixation some of the consumers have with the fiction folk tales that some of these rappers spew.

Alrigh, enough talk…..lets get to the business! Just like part one, I’m going to post some notable quotes and punchlines that stood out….

Joe Budden- Who Part 2

“Canibus made one of the dopest diss records, but some say that he lost”

“They turn on the TV, see this video vixens, and they think ni**az girls really look that good”

‘They put they whole life on the line, it’s like they can’t like more than one rapper at a time”

“Seen a video, it’s called “Lookin Ass Ni**az”/grabbed the remote, I’m tired of lookin at n*ggaz”

“It aint real no more/or did we just expand on the audience, maybe we appeal to more”

“We got less fans and more critics”

“I didn’t believe my ears when ni**az tried to tell me, KRS-One had a rap beef with Nelly”

“Was when Lauryn Hill dropped a classic/so did the Fugee’s, till Wyclef tapped it.

“If rap was alive, we’d try to be the best rappers ever, not the best rapper alive”

“You know something’s wrong when n*ggaz is getting shot, and you gotta sit and wonder if the whole thing‘s staged”

“It’s too simple, they can’t think we really deep/I just heard Chris Brown on the “A Milli” beat”

“Now it’s “F” your bars if your hook is fly/so we look at Crooked I with a Crooked I”

“If everything’s commercial where the f*ck is the show”

“To some it aint fun no more/you know it’s fu*ked up when DMC don’t talk to RUN no more”

“The s*it gets lifeless/when MTV made a list of the hottest and ignored the nicest”

“I ain’t gon lie I was scared to death straight up/started hearing rumors of an Outkast break up”

“The fans just get tired of the outcome/you get one dope single and a BS album”

“Or the diamond district, Jacob the Jeweler/had to buy a watch to be looked at as cooler”

“It’s not ringtones, just the songs that they represent”

“I heard all of em/I wouldn’t recognize most of these n*ggaz if I saw em”(The Shop Boyz)

“DJ’s is spinning now with no turntables”

Sincerely

The Culprit….

July 7th, 2008

Hopeless Hip Hopper, that’s the category this individual falls under. Known for speaking directly from the soul Joe Budden blankets the whole industry with a track that poesses the question of who gutted hip hip and when. Pointing out every vital and relevant occurrence that’s had a lasting affect on the culture, Budden speaks passionately on all his observations within the last 5 years. From artist signings and droppings to questioning the selection process on 106 and Park, it’s obvious this subject’s been tugging at Joey’s conscience for quite some time.

Some may view this as a plight to sell albums or even a segue to start some type of lyrical confrontation with one of the afromentioned artists, but judging by the tone and commentary he’s basically opening the dialogue on where hip hop went and what it’s going to take to revive it.

Packed with a bunch of great rhetorical questions and statements, “Who” only makes you ask yourself, “When did all this sh*t go wrong?” Below are a couple punchlines with links (not all of them) to that specific topic…

Joe Budden- Who Part 1

“Was it T-Pain with that funny voice sh*t, was it Lil Wayne wit that funny voice sh*t/the whole game di@k rode that funny voice sh*t”

Pac, Big, Pun went to sleep and never woke up”

“The more dudes said they didn’t write down lyrics/the more it started to sound like they didn’t”

“Maybe it all started when Roc-A-Fella parted

“F*ck blaming the south, we ain’t segregated”

“I seen all this coming I knew what we was in fo, back when Eric Sermon had jumped out the window

“Or did one hit wonders change it all along/they made labels only wanna sign a dude’s song”

“Was it when Mase retired and couldn’t hack it/Tip could, he just needed some more ratchets

“A million Busta albums and he’s still not mentioned with G.O.A.T.”

“Papoose and The Clipse both survived/ inking with Jive and then getting Jived”

“The feds was on Irv, so the ink dropped murda”

“A&R’s won’t take risks, they won’t sign nigg*z”

“Did it start when Fox stayed in the news, more than she stayed in the booth”

“Did it start with the iPod”

“The f*ck is up with DMX, I hope dude straight”

“The second week show that the boy’s number aint high/ I hate to break it to you, numbers always lie”

“I can’t tell when it happened, was it when Lil Jon show dudes you could sell without rapping”
“I gotta talk candid, did we start having issues around the sametime Jimmy and Cam did”

“DJ’s, Producers, ones to get us the farthest/said f*ck rappers and they became the artist”

Alright, I need your honest opinion on this one…..

Like it, Love it, or Leave It?????

Sincerely
