Re-Delivery!!

March 25th, 2008

By industry standards, re-issuing an album commits to the idea of further expanding the demographic reach and an attempt to reel in another category of consumers. However, to me, LowKey, that’s just a scientific definition with a translation of: We (the label) didn’t meet the status quo and now we’re in a gigantic financial rut.

What may be viewed as blasphemous, this semi blurb is just to touch on the record labels activities to keep their most prized artists relevant (Chris Brown) and they’re once super dooper, ubber stars (Kelly Rowland) a second, third, and fourth chance to regain creative conscious. First, Kelly Rowland and Columbia Records decided to try their hand ONCE AGAIN at her defunct but yet still exceptional in quality sophomore solo LP, Ms.Kelly, which is now titled Ms. Kelly: Diva Deluxe. By a show of hands, can any of you remember seeing any type of promotion for the reissued set, besides it being released digitally and it dropping today (I just found that out lol)?? The verdict has become quite clear for this experiment, Columbia once again…DROPPED THE BALL!

Next up, our “King Of Pop In Training”, Chris Brown, is trying his hand at reissuing his platinum selling sophomore project, Exclusive in the coming months. Ironically, his set did considerably well since the industry’s current climate won’t allow you achieve platinum  status without a kicking and screaming match (yes, I’m talking about you Kanye). What’s the logic behind Jive’s actions?? Were they indirectly saying “uhhhh Chris, we’re not promoting anymore singles off Exlcusive? Or maybe they thought, “this kid records material at the speed of sound, and he’s probably already thinking of concepts for his 3rd album so if we just add the most sought out producer in the game to a repackaged second album, he’ll forget about doing a new one”? Need some evidence, read this!

Now that you’ve heard me rant and rave about the subject, what are your thoughts? Would you buy a reissued album, or once you’ve heard the material, two or three songs won’t make any type of difference…especially if you hated it?

SOOOOOOOOOOOONDOFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!
