Beef is getting played out, NO MORE DRAMA!

It’s come to my attention that in the last 24 months, hip hop has become friendly; weird right? Not that I condone hip hop warfare, but it’s mind boggling how all of a sudden one minute two rivals are penning viscous responses and the next they’re recording songs together. Maybe it’s this recession we’re enduring or the fact that Sarah Palin doesn’t have the slightest clue as to what the Bush Doctrine is (so sad).

Regardless, rappers are making amends, and it’s happening at the speed of light. First, Jay and Nas kicked of the “Hip Homey” brigade by ceasing the peace at Power 105’s, I Declare War Concert. The two lyrical prophets graced the stage; hugging, kissing and rapping each other’s songs to the pleasure of 20,000 screaming hip hop advocates. After that, it was all down hill from there (in regards to hip hop beefs). Now, I’m not going to sit here and address each beef that was resolved in the last year and a half (Jada vs. 50 Cent, T.I. Vs. Shawty Lo, Ludacris vs. T.I. to name a few), but I will list the active beefs that still plague our mixtapes, radio shows and hood dvd’s.

Active “Beef” List

B.I.G vs 2Pac (Forever unresolved)

Alright, that’s all I could conjure up for the moment; however, your job is JUST getting started. If you had the chance to mend any of these “active” hip hop beef’s, which one would it be and why??? Yes, I know it’s Friday, but Summer hours are over, and I know most of you have about 3 hours left till you start your weekend…so get to work, lol!

Young Jeezy takes over NYC’s Blender Theater! Somebody asked me, “Why would you go see a Young Jeezy show?”. I paused, pondered and responded, “Well, the tickets were free (I haven’t paid for a concert ticket in the last 12 months), Jeezy has a deep catalogue and shows at Blender Theater are always dope. I made my way down to Blender Theater only to be greeted by a line that wrapped it self AROUND the corner. Seeing how I don’t understand the concept of standing in line, I waited for a couple of high powered Def Jam employees to arrive and slipped right in, lol (I’m so spoiled).

Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg from NYC’s HOT 97 tamed the antsy audience with some throwback tunage while Jeezy and the CTE family prepped for the show backstage. What amazed me even more is that before the lights turned off, some knucklehead next to me had the NERVE to roll some herbal refreshments. Mind you, it was bright as ALL OUTSIDE while he attempted the task. However, to his dismay, a young but brolic looking female appeared within seconds sporting a stern look that read, “Put that foolery down, or I’m going to make an example out of you in the next 5 mintues”. Shorty could’ve EASILY passed as a former correctional officer on Riker’s Island.

As the lights disappeared, Sean Pecas (VP of Def Jam Promotion) gave the “OK” for Cipha to introduce Jeezy to the masses; SHOWTIME! Draped in a black Harley Davidson bullet proof vest, a black bandanna under his A-Town fitted, Jeezy emerged from the circle of CTE affiliates standing on stage and got straight to work. The introduction to “J.E.E.Z.Y”, a cut from his sophomore set, Thug Motivation 102, leaked through the Blender speakers with such intensity as Young Jizzle stood front and center. “Jeezy at the trap, Jeezy like to grind/Jeezy bout his paper, cause Jeezy like to shine” A-Town’s number one trapper rapped.

Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve never seen a southern artist come to NYC and control an entire audience like Jeezy did last night. Sliding through countless underground and mainstream hits, Jizzle attacked DJ Khaled’s “I’m So Hood” with so much fury, I thought for a split second that maybe, just for a minute, I was from the hood (but it’s PAINFULLY obvious that I’m not, lol). Things got ignorant when a brief brawl broke out 10 feet to the right of me. At first I thought, “Hey look, a hip hop mosh pit”. But that quickly changed when I saw some dude covering himself and his female counterpart. Jeezy looked, smirked, and kept it movin.

“I heard if you don’t bring mothafu*az out in New York, you ain’t sh*t,” Jeezy uttered. I pointed my apparatus towards the stage and put my trigger finger on the record button. He even joked, “What you say Kanye?”……”What was that Jay?” But of course, neither one appeared. Instead, Jeezy took us on a mini Brooklyn excursion as he brought out, Fabolous, Maino and I’ll be GOD DAMNED, Lil Kim. Each of Brooklyn’s hip hop representatives performed a quick diddy from their respective catalogues, but it was Lil Kim’s appearance and performance that received the most praise.

Tackling even more joints, Jeezy still had some ammo under his sleeves. “I Luv It”, “Go Crazy”, and his remix verse to Shawty Lo’s “Dey Know” were easily crowd favorites. Hell, the crowd was so excited, somebody hurled a cup full of either water or alcohol (I can’t believe someone would waste that much liquor, lol) towards the stage which missed Jeezy by several inches. At that particular moment, I thought to myself, “I didn’t even say goodbye to my sister because for some reason, it’ll be me who’s pegged as the liquid throwing culprit, which then, I’ll be dragged out unconscious”.

All and all, the show was dope and everyone walked out satisfied. Oh and for that tool that asked me that question, I hope you’re reading this because this is EXACTLY why I attended Jeezy’s Blender Theater show. Pics below…..

Sincerely

When celebrating a one year anniversary, it’s a must that you deliver the best celebration known to mankind, or at least the closets you can possibly get. Usually when I attend R&B Live over at Spotlight in Times Square, it’s basically a networking schmooze fest, but last night…ahhhh man, last night was more like a Caribbean festival, Summer Jam and a visit to your favorite club on it’s best night all rolled into one package.

Despite it feeling like the El Azizia desert (do your research) inside and out, that didn’t stop the industry’s most elite from showing their faces at R&B Live’s one year anniversary celebration. Knowing how ignorant and absurd the line can get, I diddy bopped to the venue insanely early solidifying my position in a line that usually wraps all the way around 49th St. Of course the usual “I’m on the list” hounds were in full effect (people just LOVE to look important lol), but since I was already confirmed on the press list, I just waited patiently until it was time.

When it was time for press to make their entrance, I hopped out of line accompanied by the generic sucking of the teeth and “who the HELL is he looks” of course, and headed inside. The venue wasn’t set up yet, so I took a flick just to show you guys how incredibly packed it gets. I went to the penthouse with some other media reps and patiently waited for the Kon Muzik Family (they headlined the event) to arrive. Surprisingly, Neyo was the first to show up. Grabbed a couple quotes from him and he went on his merry way. Kardinal Offishal, Rock City, Ray L, Colby O’Donis, Red Café and Akon soon followed.

After I snagged my content, I dipped downstairs to the first floor to catch the opening of the of the show. Like always, the VIP pit was a ZOO. I walked down the steps embracing the unreasonable wave of heat while checking my surroundings. I posted up at the end of the steps for a minute just to see who was in attendance and also to see who was getting turned away from the VIP area. Just to be a smart ass, I took a stroll through the VIP Pit just because I saw somebody give me this funny look as if I didn’t belong. Approached the guerilla size security guard, showed my wristband and stepped right in. Oh, the person who gave me that funny stare was still on the other side of the velvet rope lol.

I walked through quickly observing who was at what table. Ty-Ty (Jay’s right hand man) was sitting near Neyo and Ebro (Hot 97’s PD), while Lorrie Ann Gibson was sitting next to some brown skinned honey dip. Lil Kim walked in right before I entered and of course everyone was pulling for her attention. Animals! My homey, Lexxi, spotted me from her table and introduced me to Chris Rock’s brother, Tony Rock (scroll down). I made my way to the bar and posted up for the rest of the night GASPING for oxygen lol.

Colby opened the show with an acoustic version of his single “What You Got”. Judging by Akon’s early appearance, I could tell this show was going to be different from the previous R&B Live performances. Ray-L hit the stage next and grabbed the attention of each sexy lady with a couple of his infectious R&B tunes. Rock City, who I COMPLETELY underestimated, tore that stage to PIECES. Like, to PIECES! The Virgin Island brother showed everyone why they’re one of the most talked about new groups in hip hop right now. “Hip Hop Props”….all I have to say is WOW!

Earlier when Akon appeared onstage, he informed the crowd that tonight he was turning R&B Live into a club, and good lord did he! Red Café hit the stage bringing out Nina Sky for their collaborative effort, “Things You Do”. After him and Akon did several numbers together, he broke out NYC’s current anthem, “Paper Touchin”. Again, the crowd erupted in a celebratory fury chanting “I don’t know what your money like, but a nigga like me got paper”. I was sort of hoping he let Fab, Fat Joe and Kiss come out for the remix, but they were nowhere to be found. Kardinal Offishal knocked out his performance with the energy of 15 hype men (“Dangerous” is the best song to sing to a female standing next to you).

Akon closed out the show in great fashion by bringing the Konvict Muzik Family onstage for a collaborative group celebration. I have a new found respect and love for The Konvict Family. They love their craft and it shows, IMMENSELY. Big shouts to Eric Nick and Shanti Das for brining R&B back to the forefront. Each and every industry employee will be forever in debt to you both. Congratulations on your one year anniversary.

In the video, Kim gets a visit at home, not knowing she was being filmed, by a CW11 reporter and a repo crew to put her on blast for not making her Bentley payments. Wow, who’s next??

In the video, Kim says that her accountant takes care of it, but apparently not, as her car was still taken.
