R.Kelly Court Watch….
May 28th, 2008
In day 4 of R.Kelly’s child pornography trial, a former employee has testified that the culprit on the tape is indeed Mr. Robert Kelly. Lindsey Perryman, a former assistant to the singer, asserted that after viewing the graphic video several times, she was convinced it was her former boss. “I didn’t want to think it was them, but the image I saw looked exactly like Mr. Kelly” Perryman added.
Not only did Perryman confirm Kelly’s identity on the tape, but she also declared seeing the alleged victim numerous times at Kelly’s Chicago recording studio. She recognized the victim by her cheekbones, her distinctive smile and how she talked.
Prosecutors also claimed the video was produced between January 1 of 1998 and November 1 of 2000, thus making the alleged victim as young as 13 since her birthday is in September of 1984. While a number of other prosecution witnesses were convinced that the alleged victim was in fact the 13 year old teenager, several other witnesses, which included close friends and relatives of the victim, seemed for sure than others.
Tjada Burnett, a family friend of the alleged victim, asserted that the victim on the tape is indeed the young girl because of specific body characteristics on the victim. However, Benny Edwards Jr., who at one point sang in a youth group with the alleged victim, whom is also his relative, wasn’t convinced about the identity of neither Kelly or his family member.
Kelly is being charged with 14 counts of videotaping, producing and soliciting child pornography, in which he pled innocent to all counts. If convicted, Kelly will face up to 15 years in jail.
Though the trial is clearly hovering over Kelly’s head, he’s still on tap to release his forthcoming LP, 12 Play: 4th Quarter this July, with “Hair Braider” leading off as the project’s first single.
The trial will resume tomorrow (May 29). Check back with SoundOff for more exclusive updates.
