This should have been old news, but apparently Prodigy of Mobb Deep decided to breathe new life into it. You know this story well. Jay-Z says something Prodigy doesn’t like on “Money Cash H*es” (”New York’s been soft ever since Snoop came through and crushed the buildings/I’m trying to restore the feeling”), Prodigy responds in the Source Magazine (”when it went down, he [Jay-Z] was quiet like a bitch”) and then Jay-Z goes in on “Takeover.” Maann, did he go in! “I don’t care if you Mobb Deep, I hold triggers to crews/you little f*ck I got money stacks bigger than you.” Remember that?

Most will tell you P hasn’t been the same since. His flow is on crutches, the lyrics don’t hit as much and some of the lines don’t even rhyme anymore. Fast forward to 2008, and P has ended a brief truce with recent comments. In an interview with rhapsody.com, “Capital P” declared that Hov will always be “Gay-Z” to him. Then days later, during an interview with BET.com, P downplayed talk that he fell off after Jay’s ”Takeover.”
“That’s impossible,” P said emphatically. “Nobody can do that to me. I got too much fire in my heart. How you think I’m going at Jay-Z? How you think I be going at Tupac? This is what we do, son.”
So, did Jay end P’s career? Well, not literally. The group went Gold post “Takeover” and released a string of successful singles. But the “stab your brain with your nose bone” P is no longer with us. What do you guys think? Sound off!
