Top 10- 10 Things You WON’T See @ The 2009 BET Awards

June 27th, 2009

I can GUARANTEE you will NOT see these 10 things come Sunday night….As the 2009 BET Awards inch closer and closer, we here at BET.com would like to set some ground rules as to what you WILL not see this Sunday. Now I know, award shows are all about the surprises, the theatrics, but at some point, a line has to be drawn…an envelope doesn’t need to be pushed lol.

Of course, with Eminem having another mans tush thrown in his face at the MTV Movie Awards several weeks back, a majority of you are pondering the thought of “What will BET do to top that?” NOTHING- so don’t even ask lol.

I wanted to pump this list out several days prior, but I figured I’d wait till the ceremony got a bit closer. In jest, of course, these 10 items are in no way, shape or form geared to offend anyone at all. And if you’re familiar (you should be by now) with my commentary, you already know I’ve never have. So, without further ado, I present, The Top 10 Things You Will NOT See At The 2009 BET Awards. ENJOY!

10.) You will not see Alicia Keys & Swizz Beatz confess their undying love for each other (i.e. hit the red carpet together). With Swizzy putting a GAG order on Ms. Keys about the aforementioned issue, I’m pretty sure the two will sit on opposite sides of the auditorium. Hell, they might even go as far as arriving with their own dates. Smh, whatever happened to black love.

9.) You probably won’t see Drake announce his label home since I pretty much did it for him on this side of town. Not trying to burst his “Surprise I signed with..” bubble, but that information pretty much fell into my lap so I had no choice but to let it ooze all over the BET Awards Blog. Was I wrong?? Wouldn’t care if I was.

8.) You probably won’t see me present an award holding a Coldstones Bang Bang Boogie Milkshake while wearing an exclusive pair of SB Blazers with one of the SEXIEST Hanes White-Tee Shirts in the HISTORY of Hanes Apparel. All while standing next to Keri Hilson who has her hand in my back left pocket humming the melody to “Make Love” while we walk to the podium as she attempts to watch my sodium. And this WON’T happen only because I missed 67567657 flights Friday morning, afternoon and night because US Airways thought it would be funny to film their new reality series “Punked: The Delayed & Canceled Flights” Edition.

7.) You damn sure won’t see Rihanna and Chris Brown sitting next to each other. I’m not saying  you won’t see them at the awards at all, I’m just guaranteeing you will NOT see them arrive or sit anywhere remotely close to each other.

6.) You DEFINITELY will not see any stabbings, open hand slaps, chain snatching, gun toting or weave pulling activities anywhere inside The Shrine Auditorium. I don’t care how ghetto some of these artists and their “Yes Men” maybe, I REFUSE to tolerate ANY tom foolery of the sort. And if i do…..you can bet your ASS I’m popping off on someone lol. I didn’t camp out in 3 airports over the past 48 hours to witness a bunch of FUC*ERY.

5.) You will not see or hear Lil Wayne announce bringing another crumb snatcher into this world. Assuming the rumors about him knocking up Lauren London and Nivea are valid, he’s PROBABLY doing his best to stay away from any podium tomorrow night.

4.) You will not see or hear “Auto-Tune”. See #5 for reason why.

3.) You will NOT see Shawn Corey Carter sporting THIS. I, along with everyone else who is a fan of grooming, can and will NOT tolerate this anymore. We love Jay like our very own, but it’s just not fair to our eyes, his scalp and mankind. Please Jay………..PLEASE! If you hit that stage with THIS, I just might lose it lol.

2.) You will not see Shanaynay land ass up in the lap of Young Jeezy, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, The Clipse, Pharrell, T-Pain, Soulja Boy, Nelly, Ludacris, Ne-Yo, Rick Ross, Kanye West, Fabolous or any other male hip hopper. And if you DO, I strongly suggest you DUCK!

1.) You WILL NOT see Jamie Foxx lip locking with Debra Lee. I know Foxx is the host and that pretty much gives him the green light to push every envelope, but like I said before, we’re doing this a bit different. Fantasia was shocking, Halle Berry made the male species envious, but Debra Lee???????????????? NOW THAT’S JUST WRONG!

Sincerly

LowYou will NOT see Ron Browz or DJ Webstar because I said SO” Key

Khadeshia's Dream Said on

The BET AWARDS this year was one of my favorites. In only 3days they were able to flip the entire show to tribute MJ. Jamie Fox was a Great host that said a lot of what most people are thinking aside from a few of his jokes. There were countless tributes to MJ. Most of the Artists did not even perform their own songs, but instead a song to pay homage. MARY MARY displayed a great performance. Their performance introduced us to a more vibrant way to hear gospel. In no way was it offensive. I loved Travis Barker coming out on the stage and Keke Palmer was adorable. Monica was amazing and so was Neyo. The only performance that i wished that they would have saved for another day and time was Lil Wayne’s and Ving Rhames ( you can tell that was planned). I also would have love to see Chris Brown do his thing. I know he was scheduled but according to mediatakeout Jay Z gave an ultimatum which stated if Chris Brown performs then me and Beyonce won’t. Beyonce performance was great. and it did fit. she does need to give the pads a rest. it would have also been nice to see a few of the celebrities on stage together singing one of his songs, like “WE are the World”.
For all of those saying that MTV and Vh1 did more of a tribute, you need to remember that they are owned by the same company. And yes, The VMA’s and other award show will pay a better tribute but they will have enough time to do so. duh!
And for all of you criticizing the BET AWARDS remember that criticism was all that MJ ever received. Lets be thankful that his life will be remembered.

I was pissed that Chris Brown was’nt allowed to perform at the BET AWards, you with out sin throw the first stone, he is young and made a error, dont’ punish him, by keeping his talent from emerging, he would have done Micheal well, with his style of dance and song. Everbody deserves a second chance! We as black people are to uphold our people what ever the case was, their is two sides to a story, and next time a artist will not perform because of someone they don’t want on the show, you tell that person to kiss off, regardless of fame or money. Black stars forget they are blessed, and it has been a struggle for all our people, we were once slaves, be humble people.

Viacom honestly, if you can’t serve this community let a member like Magic Johnson , Kathy Hughes (TVone), Prince, or Jamie Fox buy it back!

The BET awards was utterly disgraceful and it is offensive that your company continually regurgitates your PERCEPTION of our community in a way that is embarassing and offensive. Your indignant images are merely serving as reinforcement for incredibly FALSE stereotypical versions of our daily reality!

Michael Jackson, the greatest entertainer of all time…ALL TIME needed to be memorialized in a manner befitting his legacy.

Your company and that tired show did not come with the level of professionalism, artistry, nor HONOR that MJ and HIS immediate community deserved.

You all really should be embarassed with the product you created on Sunday. It is strongly advised that you tape the show in advance do the necessary editing and then AIR the show, bc had I spent money to fly to LA ,i definitely would have been asking for my money BACK.
NOW GET IT RIGHT OR GIVE IT BACK TO US!!!!

I would first like to say that I am appalled at the “tribute” to Michael Jackson on the BET Awards last night. The show lacked class, substance and it was a pitiful display of appreciation for a man who contributed so much to the entertainment world. I grew up watching BET and over the years I completely stopped watching the network due to the lack of quality programming. The shows on this network play into the very stereotypes that African-Americans want to disassociate themselves from. Last night solidified the reason that I no longer support this network. The presentation was poorly done. People of many races watched the awards show with hope of witnessing a celebration of the life of a pop icon. Instead we got profanity, unpolished acts, poor sound, a terrible host and overall a horrible show. I cringed at the notion made by Jamie Foxx that Michael Jackson belonged to “black” people and we let the world borrow him. WHAT??!! The very reason Michael is being celebrated across the world is because his music TRANSCENDED race. From this point on, I will continue to NOT watch BET and I am requesting that my cable subscriber remove this waist of airtime from my TV lineup. Debra Lee should be ashamed that her name is associated with such filth. Clean it up BET or cease to exist!

The show was so embrassing! It is disgusting that BET tried to promote the award show like it was actually supposet to be about Michael . It didn’t have anything of any real importance about michael. Despite he passed a few days before the show it shouldn’t have been that hard to give him a respectable send off. I only watched the show to see a real triubute to michael and that never happened. I stopped watching BET a long time ago and I remember why now. Shame on you Debra!

malik Said on

What a shame BET has this stupid rappers swearing and using dirty languages to tribute Micheal Jackson, or any dead person. No singer praised the Lord in their songs. When you pay respect to the dead you need to be humble and use proper language, because you are addressing to the Lord.
What a shame! Micheal Jackson deserves lot better . His stupid and selfish father dancing like a young man. Turn yourselves to God before you die.

shiva Said on

That show was horrific. It was a train wreck. Having those teenaged girls on stage for that clearly adult song was a hot mess. Jamie forever talking about himself and his upcoming show. Please Jesus do not do anything for Michael again. I am embarrassed. Ne-yo was good and so were the O’Jays. Beyonce-just STOP. Jay-Z? Please. Your “wife” destroys even the most beautiful song in the world Ave Maria with her self-centered fake modesty. Your crap was useless. Ugh no more BET for me-someone needs to bring it down and start again. Tyler? You listening?

Shiva Said on

BET is DONE. You really ruined yourselves this time.

Are you going to update to the 30th days posts? Even your website sucks

BET executives….I hope you ALL have paid close attention to and have done serious soul searching on all the comments regarding the disgraceful BET Award Show 2009. BET used be a show where you could sit down with your family and watch decent videos and/or shows. Today, I pray that a higher power would lead your executives to change BET. I am speechless when it comes to the 2009 BET Awards. Stop perpetuating ignorance and lewd behaviors of so called entertainers. Micheal Jackson did not represent most of the music portrayed during the awards show. He was and always will be the KING OF POP…..not the king of flop. Chris Brown and Usher would have done an awsome tribute to Michael. Maybe they will get their chance on other shows to do so. Missing you Micheal!

Bridgette Said on

I thought I was the only person who was embarrassed and horrified by the BET Awards. Jamie Foxx was horrible!!! And he seems to be drunk if not high. I know that was formatted especially for MJ as a tribute, but it just goes to show that we as a people are still not ready to shine on the world class stage. Everybody was covering this show and once again BET made us look like stereotypical, ghetto fabulous, no class having race of people we are know for being who couldnt even put together a simple and befitting tribute to a world musical icon!!!!!

I stopped watching BET a long time ago and after watching this so-called tribute to MJ I remembered why I stopped tuning in. Can someone tell me why BET allowed Lil Wayne and Drake to perform that explicitly sexualized song about f*cking every girl in the world with pre-teens on stage? And you wonder why HIV and teen pregnancy is out of control? BET has become and is a JOKE!!! It just goes to show you can take the person out of the “hood” but you definitely cannot take the “hood” out of the people.

Maria Said on

BET AWARDS A BIG LET DOWN…….. TO DECIDE TO CUT CHRIS BROWN OUT WAS A VERY POOR CHOICE, AND IF FOR JAY-Z OR AL SHARPTON, COMPLETE NONSENSE, THEY OBVIUOSLY DID NOT HAVE MJ’S MEMORY AT HEART BEACAUSE NO ONE CAN PAY TRIBUTE TO MJ LIKE CHRIS.

I was so disappointed in the Bet Awards tribute to Michael Jackson, it that is what you could call it. The guy jumping on the bed, no voice, and his underwear all exposed. Michael would not be pleased. This rappers have no idea what performing means. Maybe Alicia Keyes, Jaime, and Byouce. Kept watching for something to happen that resembled a tribute. That guy with the big ass chain on, it should have said big ass jerk. If any of those rappers think Michael Jackson and the Ojays cleared the path for them they are full of s–t. The whole thing was a waste of my time. So disappointed for Michael, he deserved better from his own. It’s like Steve Harvey says, all rappers can say is yo up and down the stage.

martha Said on

I was so disappointed with the so called BET tribute to Michael. The guy jumping on the bed, no voice, and his pants down showing his underwear. Rappers have no idea what it is to perform. Steve Harvey is right rappers can only slide back and forth on the stage yelling yo!!!!! If rappers think that Michael Jackson cleared the way for their music they’re full of S–t. I expected more for Michael, something awesome from his own. Some performances were just sad. I was asking myself constantly what does that have to do with Michael. The guy with the big ass chain on should have said big ass jerk.

Greg Said on

In this viewer opinion the BET AWARDS SHOW was a smash UNTIL !!!!!!!! the rappers at the end of the show.. On national TV with young kids watching you permitted POISON IVY to shine with the ROSES. With that CUSSING and DEGRADING of our BEAUTIFUL BLACK WOMEN for the world to see. YOU where suppose
to be honoring Michael !!!!!!. Mike didn’t cuss nor degrade anybody. SHAME SHAME SHAME on bet. Yes bet. I hope your sponsors forgive you for letting a great show be ruined by that sad display of creative art after the unexpected death of such a CREATIVE ARTIST as MICHAEL JACKSON. If bet does not offer some kind of apology in my opinion you’ve sold all of your hard earned integrity for a buck. — Greg in Houston

I am embarrassed by the farce that was the so-called “tribute” to one of the greatest human beings to ever live. BET has become Black America’s worst enemy. I am finished with Jamie Foxx and BET.

gg Said on

I have to agree with everyone else !!The show was a total joke …If BET did not have enough time to properly honor Mj , They should have not done anything at all..I usually love Jamie Fox..But I have to say he sucked !! And i felt he was mimicking Mj the while show. And the people they chose to honor Mj…where soo random ….I truly regret wasting 3 hours that i can never get back on such a horrible show….Im sorry Mj !! You deserve soo much more !!! RIP !! You brought us all soo much happiness !! You will be missed..

monica Said on

Omg! I thought bet was going to do it big with the tribute to Michael. This show was terrible. The best part of the whole show was the tribute to the OJ’s, Trae songs, and Tyresse did their thang, and when Janet Jackson came out to speak. That was the high light to the whole show. I hope someone can do a better tribute to the King of Pop than that. What in the world was B doing? Why in the world would you come out in her outfitt. It was classy at all. We suppose to celebrating the KIng. Lil wayne and Drake a waste of breathe. Lil Wayne, Toya and Tiny need to be somewhere getting parenting classes it is obvious that they need it. Let their kids come on stage dancing to an adult song is just dumb. You give people something to talk about. I hope BET does better next year. I knew Jamie was going to promote his album and sing all night long BORING.

monica Said on

But to leave out Chris Brown. That sucked. We already know he can do his thang he did it for MTV.
