Top 10- 10 Things You WON’T See @ The 2009 BET Awards

June 27th, 2009

I can GUARANTEE you will NOT see these 10 things come Sunday night….As the 2009 BET Awards inch closer and closer, we here at BET.com would like to set some ground rules as to what you WILL not see this Sunday. Now I know, award shows are all about the surprises, the theatrics, but at some point, a line has to be drawn…an envelope doesn’t need to be pushed lol.

Of course, with Eminem having another mans tush thrown in his face at the MTV Movie Awards several weeks back, a majority of you are pondering the thought of “What will BET do to top that?” NOTHING- so don’t even ask lol.

I wanted to pump this list out several days prior, but I figured I’d wait till the ceremony got a bit closer. In jest, of course, these 10 items are in no way, shape or form geared to offend anyone at all. And if you’re familiar (you should be by now) with my commentary, you already know I’ve never have. So, without further ado, I present, The Top 10 Things You Will NOT See At The 2009 BET Awards. ENJOY!

10.) You will not see Alicia Keys & Swizz Beatz confess their undying love for each other (i.e. hit the red carpet together). With Swizzy putting a GAG order on Ms. Keys about the aforementioned issue, I’m pretty sure the two will sit on opposite sides of the auditorium. Hell, they might even go as far as arriving with their own dates. Smh, whatever happened to black love.

9.) You probably won’t see Drake announce his label home since I pretty much did it for him on this side of town. Not trying to burst his “Surprise I signed with..” bubble, but that information pretty much fell into my lap so I had no choice but to let it ooze all over the BET Awards Blog. Was I wrong?? Wouldn’t care if I was.

8.) You probably won’t see me present an award holding a Coldstones Bang Bang Boogie Milkshake while wearing an exclusive pair of SB Blazers with one of the SEXIEST Hanes White-Tee Shirts in the HISTORY of Hanes Apparel. All while standing next to Keri Hilson who has her hand in my back left pocket humming the melody to “Make Love” while we walk to the podium as she attempts to watch my sodium. And this WON’T happen only because I missed 67567657 flights Friday morning, afternoon and night because US Airways thought it would be funny to film their new reality series “Punked: The Delayed & Canceled Flights” Edition.

7.) You damn sure won’t see Rihanna and Chris Brown sitting next to each other. I’m not saying  you won’t see them at the awards at all, I’m just guaranteeing you will NOT see them arrive or sit anywhere remotely close to each other.

6.) You DEFINITELY will not see any stabbings, open hand slaps, chain snatching, gun toting or weave pulling activities anywhere inside The Shrine Auditorium. I don’t care how ghetto some of these artists and their “Yes Men” maybe, I REFUSE to tolerate ANY tom foolery of the sort. And if i do…..you can bet your ASS I’m popping off on someone lol. I didn’t camp out in 3 airports over the past 48 hours to witness a bunch of FUC*ERY.

5.) You will not see or hear Lil Wayne announce bringing another crumb snatcher into this world. Assuming the rumors about him knocking up Lauren London and Nivea are valid, he’s PROBABLY doing his best to stay away from any podium tomorrow night.

4.) You will not see or hear “Auto-Tune”. See #5 for reason why.

3.) You will NOT see Shawn Corey Carter sporting THIS. I, along with everyone else who is a fan of grooming, can and will NOT tolerate this anymore. We love Jay like our very own, but it’s just not fair to our eyes, his scalp and mankind. Please Jay………..PLEASE! If you hit that stage with THIS, I just might lose it lol.

2.) You will not see Shanaynay land ass up in the lap of Young Jeezy, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, The Clipse, Pharrell, T-Pain, Soulja Boy, Nelly, Ludacris, Ne-Yo, Rick Ross, Kanye West, Fabolous or any other male hip hopper. And if you DO, I strongly suggest you DUCK!

1.) You WILL NOT see Jamie Foxx lip locking with Debra Lee. I know Foxx is the host and that pretty much gives him the green light to push every envelope, but like I said before, we’re doing this a bit different. Fantasia was shocking, Halle Berry made the male species envious, but Debra Lee???????????????? NOW THAT’S JUST WRONG!

Sincerly

LowYou will NOT see Ron Browz or DJ Webstar because I said SO” Key

Jamie Foxx was a disgrace and BET Awards 2009 tribute to Michael Jackson was a disgrace!!!!! Very disappointed with BET, expected much better. BET your new programs need to be cancel and you need to rethink what your viewers would like to see. You need to even rethink about who your views are!!!!

Laurie Said on

I agree with Angela, BET NEEDS NEW MANAGEMENT, and to think that that lady from BET came on and said that everyone at BET work hard on this show for the last 72 hours (for the tribute to MJ), and that THEY WERE PROUD OF IT!!!! NEW MANAGEMENT NOW!!!!!!!

ANGELA Said on

just in case somebody from michael family is reading the blogs you can see where the real fans are we love and RESPECT michael and our prayers are with the family that you are able to stay strong keep believing in the best in people like michael did even when they do less than

BET….YOU should be ashamed of yourself!!! This was a trashy tribute and even without the tragedy of losing MJ this award show was a mess. We have come so far as a people yet we have so far to come. This was a disgraceful display of what BLACK PEOPLE are all about. Can we not clean up the trash for one day? The vile, massaganistic, vulger junk….for just one day? My TV will continue to skip BET when I’m scrolling through the channel. AWFUL!!!

Lee Said on

Jamie Foxx appears to be drunk, what a disappointment. His performance was very disrespectful. Jamie, you do not have to worry about me ever coming to see your live show. I have loss all respect for you and will avoid seeing anything that you are in. What a disgrace!!!!

Tony Said on

Worst show ever. I don’t understand why Joe Jackson is sitting in the audience. You would think that he would be with his family at this time. Jamie Fox did a poor job of hosting. Ne-yo did a nice tribute, but I kept switching to a different channel because I could not stand all of the terrible singing. I have never watched the BET awards show before, but I thought this one was going to be special, I thought wrong. I am black and I think this show was a disgrace! Too much cussing. I can tell that when I hear more beeping out lyrics than actual words. Shame! Shame! Shame!

Beyonce singing ave maria in that costume was just plain wrong. She could have covered up. We know you have curves and are sexy, but you need to cover up when it’s time to cover up B!!!!

For a real tribute to Michael Jackson, please view a video tribute that my 14 year old daughter posted on youtube in a matter of hours after he had died, without a budget or stars, just her heart felt desire to express something for Michael Jackson.

WORST BET AWARDS I HAVE EVER SEEN! THE PERFORMANCES WERE NOT MEMORABLE. THERE WAS WAYYY TO MUCH PROFANITY. THEY DID NOT DO MICHAEL JACKSON JUSTICE. &&& WHAT WAS UP WITH ALL THE TALK ABOUT JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, CHRIS BROWN, AND USHER PERFORMING?I WAS EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. JAMIE DIDNT DO A GOOD JOB EITHER. BRING BACK MO’NIQUE! I WAS GLAD TO SEE JANET JACKSON THOUGH. MAYBE MTV WILL DO A BETTER JOB OF TRIBUTING MICHAEL JACKSON WHEN THEY DO THE VMAs.

Adele Said on

That was a tribute to Michael Jackson? I couldn’t believe Jamie was announcing his upcoming Vegas shows!!! Are you kidding me??? Michael deserved so much better .

AJ Said on

We are so very disappointed in tonight’s show. We thought there would be a REAL tribute to Michael. I’m sure Joe sat there wondering why he even showed up. Honestly, if BET didn’t have enough time to prepare a proper tribute w/all of the people who worked with him and loved him, they should have just acknowledged his death during the awards show and then worked on a tribute at a later date. Our family..along w/many others i’m sure, felt such sadness that “our own people” put on such a flimsy example of a tribute to someone who was truly a great entertainer. We felt so sorry for Janet. She looked as if she was dying inside. We were SO GLAD she didn’t say “thanks for the tribute,” bc clearly it wasn’t worthy of a “heartfelt thanks.”

I watched the Bet Awards the tribute was beautiful. My thoughts about Michael are these; As beautiful as the brother was I think he was ill and a beautiful genius. The media killed his spirit, took his soul, and left him to deal with the cruelty of the world by tainting his gift to the world. We are quick to rush to judgment of our heroes and slow to defend and stand by them until guilt is unquestionable. We as a people should be more loyal to our own, more protective more understanding and compassionate toward our own. the powers that would be are constantly plotting to undermine our genius our unity. Take note and take care all of our heroes and icons are targets.Michael said He’ll be there as long as there is love, the media took the love from him in life let’s get it back for him in our tribute of his genius and his soulful beauty. RIP Michael much love

Tony Said on

I truly felt the pain that Janet was feeling. I feel so sorry for her and the Jackson family. BET I am very, very, very disappointed in the quality of this show. What a poor tribute to the King of Pop. Jamie Foxx, what were you thinking?? I have nothing more to say. I am just shocked. Poor job by BET, and by many of the artist and presenters that perform. My GOD have some dignity!

jk Said on

The BET Awards show for 2009 disgraced Michael Jackson’s memory. Lil Wayne and the other Hip Hop artists can pay no tribute to Michael. Michael’s talent for singing and dancing is light years ahead of talentless Hip Hop artists who mumble vulgar language, swing their arms around, and expose their underwear. BET, you should be ashamed of yourself!

Tiffany Said on

I feel cheated! The entire world was watching this disgrace. Debra Lee shame on you and Stephen Hill for making us look like such buffoons. Change your name please. At least the Black part. I hope the Jacksons had sense enough to tune out. You just gave white media carte blanc to be as disrespectful as ever. And Jay-z, did you really have to premiere your video tonight? Yall fooled Beyonce into thinking this was a real tribute..whatever. I’m done.

Sam Said on

The BET Awards had been getting better and better with each year since it first began. But the 09 Awards show was by far the WORST show I have EVER seen from BET!!!!!!! Absolute WORST EVER

aloneasalways Said on

The award show was great, I didn’t like sherri sheppard from the view and the guy she was with disrespect Joe Jackson by not even aknowledging him. This was his son, how dare them. We were all about love and showing our respects to the family, showing Michael how much we love him. The show and all the performers really did a wonderful job. He will be missed but will live on in our hearts forever. GOD BLESS MICHAEL, and Bless his family through this time of grief.

Madeline SmithHatim Said on

I have just read the comments about the Bet Awards show. My cable went off during the storm so I did not see some of the show however the reviews posted are negative and critical. Are we serious with these negative demeaning remarks. Could we please respect Bet as a news worthy and entertainment program. We criticize the rappers but they are millionaires they did not buy their own material. If its that bad there is a thing called boycott. Anyway Bet said they had to change their program in the matter of a few days to give tribute to Michael. That alone says a lot. People give the criticism a break after all that is partly what killed Michael criticism of a need to give and feel loved by people that would not judge him for being a human being in pain.
Honor the King of Pop’s memory Make the world a better place and start with the man in the mirror.

The show was a HOT MESS!!!!! Everything from Jaime constantly having to ask the producers if he’s on air or not, to Beyonce’s football pads lookin outfit, to Don Cornelius’ EXTRA-Long speech, to all those under-aged kids Drake was singing to, to watever you wanna call those 5 minutes of disorganized noise from Jay-Z, and Lil-Waye, to the complete LACK of a tribute to MJ. I mean really, it is BET, and therefore we expected more, MUCH more, and they simply did NOT deliver!!!! Janet should’ve refused to come out cuz it was SOO not worth it. There was no tribute worth airing except the one by Neyo and Jaime–at the last 5 minutes of the show! I understand they had all of about 2 days, to put something together, but their time could’ve been better spent making ONE segment of substance rather than a whole show of crap. BET, this was a mess…a HOT MESS!!!!!!!!
