Top 10- 10 Things You WON’T See @ The 2009 BET Awards
June 27th, 2009
I can GUARANTEE you will NOT see these 10 things come Sunday night….As the 2009 BET Awards inch closer and closer, we here at BET.com would like to set some ground rules as to what you WILL not see this Sunday. Now I know, award shows are all about the surprises, the theatrics, but at some point, a line has to be drawn…an envelope doesn’t need to be pushed lol.
Of course, with Eminem having another mans tush thrown in his face at the MTV Movie Awards several weeks back, a majority of you are pondering the thought of “What will BET do to top that?” NOTHING- so don’t even ask lol.
I wanted to pump this list out several days prior, but I figured I’d wait till the ceremony got a bit closer. In jest, of course, these 10 items are in no way, shape or form geared to offend anyone at all. And if you’re familiar (you should be by now) with my commentary, you already know I’ve never have. So, without further ado, I present, The Top 10 Things You Will NOT See At The 2009 BET Awards. ENJOY!
10.) You will not see Alicia Keys & Swizz Beatz confess their undying love for each other (i.e. hit the red carpet together). With Swizzy putting a GAG order on Ms. Keys about the aforementioned issue, I’m pretty sure the two will sit on opposite sides of the auditorium. Hell, they might even go as far as arriving with their own dates. Smh, whatever happened to black love.
9.) You probably won’t see Drake announce his label home since I pretty much did it for him on this side of town. Not trying to burst his “Surprise I signed with..” bubble, but that information pretty much fell into my lap so I had no choice but to let it ooze all over the BET Awards Blog. Was I wrong?? Wouldn’t care if I was.
8.) You probably won’t see me present an award holding a Coldstones Bang Bang Boogie Milkshake while wearing an exclusive pair of SB Blazers with one of the SEXIEST Hanes White-Tee Shirts in the HISTORY of Hanes Apparel. All while standing next to Keri Hilson who has her hand in my back left pocket humming the melody to “Make Love” while we walk to the podium as she attempts to watch my sodium. And this WON’T happen only because I missed 67567657 flights Friday morning, afternoon and night because US Airways thought it would be funny to film their new reality series “Punked: The Delayed & Canceled Flights” Edition.
7.) You damn sure won’t see Rihanna and Chris Brown sitting next to each other. I’m not saying you won’t see them at the awards at all, I’m just guaranteeing you will NOT see them arrive or sit anywhere remotely close to each other.
6.) You DEFINITELY will not see any stabbings, open hand slaps, chain snatching, gun toting or weave pulling activities anywhere inside The Shrine Auditorium. I don’t care how ghetto some of these artists and their “Yes Men” maybe, I REFUSE to tolerate ANY tom foolery of the sort. And if i do…..you can bet your ASS I’m popping off on someone lol. I didn’t camp out in 3 airports over the past 48 hours to witness a bunch of FUC*ERY.
5.) You will not see or hear Lil Wayne announce bringing another crumb snatcher into this world. Assuming the rumors about him knocking up Lauren London and Nivea are valid, he’s PROBABLY doing his best to stay away from any podium tomorrow night.
4.) You will not see or hear “Auto-Tune”. See #5 for reason why.
3.) You will NOT see Shawn Corey Carter sporting THIS. I, along with everyone else who is a fan of grooming, can and will NOT tolerate this anymore. We love Jay like our very own, but it’s just not fair to our eyes, his scalp and mankind. Please Jay………..PLEASE! If you hit that stage with THIS, I just might lose it lol.
2.) You will not see Shanaynay land ass up in the lap of Young Jeezy, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, The Clipse, Pharrell, T-Pain, Soulja Boy, Nelly, Ludacris, Ne-Yo, Rick Ross, Kanye West, Fabolous or any other male hip hopper. And if you DO, I strongly suggest you DUCK!
1.) You WILL NOT see Jamie Foxx lip locking with Debra Lee. I know Foxx is the host and that pretty much gives him the green light to push every envelope, but like I said before, we’re doing this a bit different. Fantasia was shocking, Halle Berry made the male species envious, but Debra Lee???????????????? NOW THAT’S JUST WRONG!

The top 10 things you won’t see at the BET Awards
Is a decent tribute to Micheal Jackson
Ms. Debra Lee and BET thank you for tonight the awards was beautiful the guest and stars was Great way to go. Now to Michael Jackson:
A flower blooms in due time, it’s beauty is exposed, Michael, you are that flower all year round to some it’s called “A ROSE”.
YOU WILL BE MISSED, BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN.
It is bad enough to know that your exploitation of women has gone haywire but putting little girls on a stage when there are grown men rapping about how many they can do has gone way past the mark. You should be ashamed. I am terribly sorry that you brought the Jackson family out for this mess in their time of grief. It would be nice to see Beyonce in some clothes while singing a religious song. Maxwell was to classy for this show, he should have cancelled and I be that if everyone who gives you a bad review on this ceremony would contribute one dollar. We could start a respectable BLACK Television Network.
How does the saying go? With friends like you, who needs enemies?….
I was pleased at the facy that there was an attempt to honor Michael, but there was one thing left out of it and that was the actual honoring of his legacy. And it was very disrespctful to have Drake and Lil Wayne to perform with the profanity and negative messages he raps about. I enjoyed the tribute to the Ojays and Beyonce was a JOKE!!!!!!!! (FAKE B*%&$H). Glad to see Monica back again And Keri is great. LeBron is a BIG NO…….. But I saw the man Carmelo in the house. And I agree with another person who wrote where was my boy Chris Brown. You should have had him do a performance>>>>>> FOR REAL THO!
I am totally disappointed. I have never watched the BET Awards and after tonight, I never will again.
Maybe I am just too small town to see the entertainment value in the spitting of profanity and pants that don’t fit.
Michael Jackson would not have sat through that offensive display of crap for 3 seconds. Back in the 80’s, when you watched music awards, they had real music in it…
Jamie F. has a wonderful voice, that’s as much of a complement as I’ll ever give him.
I can’t wait until someone does a “real” tribute to MJ.
It’s amazing !! VH1 honored MJ with respect for several hours,TV guide even gave him several hours of respect. MTV will give him his respect later on today, they will honor his memory. Hell CNN is giving him air space as though he’s the President !! BET hasn’t had no specials what so ever since his death and the one time they do anything for him, It’s a joke !!! What is that all about ??????? People all around the world are sadden at this great loss. They probably watched the show and shook thier heads in disbelieve. MJ was not one to disrespect no one, so if your giving him respect than why not go by his examble ??
I was no so disappointed in the show but I was disturbed by the Lil’ Wayne and crew performance. How does perverse language honor anyone? I also thought it would have been better if the grand finale was a collaboration of several artists or anyone who wanted to come up and sing “We are the World”. that would have been funny!
Check out my tribute to Michael Jackson, ‘Remembering My Time’ With Michael Jackson at: geauxdesi.wordpress.com.
Thanks!
BET we are in a Post-Obama World. When things air on TV, the images go all over the world. Your award shows are not professionally done-ever. Please set a higher standard for your entertainment guests because they are out of control.
Aren’t there any educated people working at BET who can provide better direction? Because your programming selections are really low-class now.
THE BET AWARDS WAS TERRIBLE, AND I CANT BELIEVE THE DISRESPECTED MICHAEL THE WAY THEY DID, AND IF THAT WAS A TRIBUTE I NEVER WANT TO SEE ANOTHER AGAIN FROM BET TO ANYONE. AND CHRIS BROWN OR USHER NOT PERFORMING WAS A DISRESPECT ALSO.
First of all much respect to all of the great performers on the BET award show. The way the show was put together was a great disappointment. It was billed as a tribute to Michael Jackson, which it was not. Jamie Fox was not professional. The entire show should have been more professional especially since it was promoted as a tribute to MJ who was the ultimate professional. What was with all of those plugs about Jamie’s movie and comedy tour? The host should not plug as many times as Jamie did or talk about Maxwell in that manner. The world was watching and this was the worst show I’ve seen to date. I watched in horror from the beginning to the end hoping for something better in MJ’s honor. The cursing and Ving putting down other award shows was not necessary. Where was the dancing? Ne-yo and Ginuwine could have done that. Why not format a singing tribute with more people. You could have cut acts singing 2 to 3 songs and had time for at least 20 min. of continued tribute to MJ. Hopefully when you have time you can make up for it by putting together a look at only the positive aspects of MJ’s life. Don’t judge Joe Jackson. The Jackson’s would not be who they are if not for their father. I’m still a fan of BET and maybe as usual we are harder on ourselves than others but hey that’s the way I feel. God bless the Jackson Family. Rest in Peace Michael I LOVE YOU
I have to say that this show was poorly put together. This was the Worst BET awards. They should have waited until a little later to give him a fair tribute. This was just embarrasing to the black race.
*********JAMIE FOXX WAS A DISGRACE, DISRESPECTFUL, AND VULGAR****** I am ashamed as a black woman of all the ignorance I saw displayed at the BET Awards. Comments made by him and others were a complete turn off. There were children in the audience and watching this live so called Tribute to Michael Jackson. Michael was a universal star that brought people together, not separated and divided people and I don’t think he would have approved of all the cursing that went on during the show while young children were watching. Joe Jackson using the attention of his son’s tribute to promote his next business venture was a complete disgrace and spoke volumes about the type of money hungry man he is. The only performance worth anything was Ne Yo’s, Maxwell’s, and a few others toward the end. I am amazed at how horrible this show was. MJ was a perfectionist and he definitely deserves better!
Really disapointed at the overall production of the show, if it is a tribute to the king why does have the show have to be bleeped out. And I thought it was in real poor taste for the young girls on the stage during the lil wayne and cast performance. BET you could have done much more, you mean there was no one available from Motown to represent.
Black Embarrassment Television, the show was a disgrace to the memory of Michael Jackson, but it was not entirely negative:
1. THANK YOU Maxwell for trying to inject a sense of class and decency into a show that was sinking deeper into the abyss of vulgarity, uappreciativeness, and sheer embarrassment (even if your song had nothing to do with MJ)
2. Thank you Idris Elba for being the first person in the show gutsy enough to remove the seriously remissed attention and homage paid to Mr Joe Jackson and appropriately redirecting it toward the authentically grief-stricken Mrs. Katherine Jackson and the family! Job Well done gentlemen!
I can only hope that the next Grammy Awards Show properly extends a well-deserved acknowledgement of all of the great accomplishments of Mr. Michael Jackson. The only decent and respectful portion of your BET Awards Show, celebrating Mr. Jackson was the appearance of Janet, his sister. Suddently everyone realized how tragic his death really is. Mr. Jackson was an exceptional man, entertainer and human being. He was also a very professional and polished man; always polite and refined. He always carried himself in a dignified manner. He deserved a more polished, refined and dignified presentation. No disrespect to Jamie Foxx, but Diana Ross, Barry Gordy or anyone connected to his life would have been more appropriate. This man deserves more. The show was silly and juvenile. The only people who seemed to enjoy it were the people in your audience. It’s sad to see these entertainers, who will never measure up to the caliber of Mr. Jackson, believe that they are the real thing. Maxwell was great. It would have been wonderful to have him sing one of Mr. Jackson’s songs. The rappers trying to sing, who are tone deaf – why do you have these ridiculous people on your show? It would be so nice to see black people do more. Sing a real song, dance a real dance, dress respectful and dignified. Most of the entertainers are just that, entertainers with absolutely no talent. There are very few true artists left. This is why I will truly miss Michael Jackson. He gave his all everytime he was on stage. He truly cared for his fans. He always gave his very best! I cannot think of one person that measures up to his talent. I will really miss him.
Last night I can truthfully say that I now understand why Racism still permeates the air in this country. Suffice it to say that it cannot be blamed fully on the Caucasians…no way.
Jamie Fox’s comment at the open of the BET awards was caustic, racist and extremely insulting to the global network of Michael Jackson Fans.
Michael Jackson may have came out of Motown but his success and fame only came after he pulled away from the Jackson 5 and moved away from the Disco/Dance Machine crap.
With extreme prejudice and on behalf of the rest of the world, I resent and admonish Jamie Fox for placing his race on a pedestal above God.
GOD GAVE MICHAEL JACKSON TO THE WORLD…..contrary to Fox’s boasting that “The Blacks Owned Michael and Gave Him To The World”. That was so insulting and demeaning to Michael Jackson, and has truly shown where the racial hatred comes from in our society.
i watched the bet show, and it was horrible. debra lee, has no creative control over the show, performers, and their negative content. there must come a time that we refrain, from advertising the prison life by performers, by wearing our pants down, to show our asses! as most m/b performers did on sunday night. even with all of mj, problems, he was still a consumate professional. the bet, staff should be invesitgated by the los angeles p.d. to see if the any of the persons on stage or in the audience, were under age, watching such x-rated performaces, and charge the persons that exhibited the vulgar and sordid acts. little wayne and the rest of the bet degenerates were horrible. the season acts, should bowed out.
What a huge DISAPPOINTMENT! That is the only word that I think of when I reflect on this show. Why on earth would you publicize this fiasco as a Michael Jackson tribute or even say that you were dedicating this show to his memory?
So what you only had a few days to put the event together…who cares? BET you are large business with what I assume to be professionals on the staff. You should know that either you do it right or you don’t do it at all. This was the networks opportunity to put on a more serious, classy event…but instead you went down the same path of nonsense with too much “noise” and not enough substance.
The best part of the show for me was watching the O’Jays tribute, and the “Year of the Gentlemen” performances with Guy, Keith Sweat, and BBD. Ne-Yo’s performances were also nice. Lil’ Wayne and his foolishness killed it for me. Why on earth would you have him perform this song when the show is supposed to be dedicated to a musical icon? EMBARRASSING! Especially with the young girls on the stage. BET needs to be more responsible. I’m tired of watching you put crap on television as a representation of us. It makes me sick.
BET Awards 2009 was a COMPLETE let down! They called it a “MJ tribute”…MJ, the king of pop & such a great person deserved that kind of “tribute”? How long did it take to prepare it, 1 min? All they did was sing, dance, laugh a lot, they gave more props to MJ’s dad than MJ, no one made any heart felt speech about MJ, people bringing alcohol to the stage! BET was better off NOT calling it a MJ tribute!
Why the hell ABUSIVE Joseph there 4 DAYS AFTER THE DEATH OF HIS SON! To watch this CIRCUS?? SHAME ON YOU BET!!!!!!
