Top 10- 10 Things You WON’T See @ The 2009 BET Awards

June 27th, 2009

I can GUARANTEE you will NOT see these 10 things come Sunday night….As the 2009 BET Awards inch closer and closer, we here at BET.com would like to set some ground rules as to what you WILL not see this Sunday. Now I know, award shows are all about the surprises, the theatrics, but at some point, a line has to be drawn…an envelope doesn’t need to be pushed lol.

Of course, with Eminem having another mans tush thrown in his face at the MTV Movie Awards several weeks back, a majority of you are pondering the thought of “What will BET do to top that?” NOTHING- so don’t even ask lol.

I wanted to pump this list out several days prior, but I figured I’d wait till the ceremony got a bit closer. In jest, of course, these 10 items are in no way, shape or form geared to offend anyone at all. And if you’re familiar (you should be by now) with my commentary, you already know I’ve never have. So, without further ado, I present, The Top 10 Things You Will NOT See At The 2009 BET Awards. ENJOY!

10.) You will not see Alicia Keys & Swizz Beatz confess their undying love for each other (i.e. hit the red carpet together). With Swizzy putting a GAG order on Ms. Keys about the aforementioned issue, I’m pretty sure the two will sit on opposite sides of the auditorium. Hell, they might even go as far as arriving with their own dates. Smh, whatever happened to black love.

9.) You probably won’t see Drake announce his label home since I pretty much did it for him on this side of town. Not trying to burst his “Surprise I signed with..” bubble, but that information pretty much fell into my lap so I had no choice but to let it ooze all over the BET Awards Blog. Was I wrong?? Wouldn’t care if I was.

8.) You probably won’t see me present an award holding a Coldstones Bang Bang Boogie Milkshake while wearing an exclusive pair of SB Blazers with one of the SEXIEST Hanes White-Tee Shirts in the HISTORY of Hanes Apparel. All while standing next to Keri Hilson who has her hand in my back left pocket humming the melody to “Make Love” while we walk to the podium as she attempts to watch my sodium. And this WON’T happen only because I missed 67567657 flights Friday morning, afternoon and night because US Airways thought it would be funny to film their new reality series “Punked: The Delayed & Canceled Flights” Edition.

7.) You damn sure won’t see Rihanna and Chris Brown sitting next to each other. I’m not saying  you won’t see them at the awards at all, I’m just guaranteeing you will NOT see them arrive or sit anywhere remotely close to each other.

6.) You DEFINITELY will not see any stabbings, open hand slaps, chain snatching, gun toting or weave pulling activities anywhere inside The Shrine Auditorium. I don’t care how ghetto some of these artists and their “Yes Men” maybe, I REFUSE to tolerate ANY tom foolery of the sort. And if i do…..you can bet your ASS I’m popping off on someone lol. I didn’t camp out in 3 airports over the past 48 hours to witness a bunch of FUC*ERY.

5.) You will not see or hear Lil Wayne announce bringing another crumb snatcher into this world. Assuming the rumors about him knocking up Lauren London and Nivea are valid, he’s PROBABLY doing his best to stay away from any podium tomorrow night.

4.) You will not see or hear “Auto-Tune”. See #5 for reason why.

3.) You will NOT see Shawn Corey Carter sporting THIS. I, along with everyone else who is a fan of grooming, can and will NOT tolerate this anymore. We love Jay like our very own, but it’s just not fair to our eyes, his scalp and mankind. Please Jay………..PLEASE! If you hit that stage with THIS, I just might lose it lol.

2.) You will not see Shanaynay land ass up in the lap of Young Jeezy, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, The Clipse, Pharrell, T-Pain, Soulja Boy, Nelly, Ludacris, Ne-Yo, Rick Ross, Kanye West, Fabolous or any other male hip hopper. And if you DO, I strongly suggest you DUCK!

1.) You WILL NOT see Jamie Foxx lip locking with Debra Lee. I know Foxx is the host and that pretty much gives him the green light to push every envelope, but like I said before, we’re doing this a bit different. Fantasia was shocking, Halle Berry made the male species envious, but Debra Lee???????????????? NOW THAT’S JUST WRONG!

Sincerly

LowYou will NOT see Ron Browz or DJ Webstar because I said SO” Key

Witness to Injustice Said on

The awards show was a humiliation to the human race. “A tribute to MJ”, what a joke. Jamie Foxx was a terrible host, which was obvious a number of times. 1. Mocking MJ 2. Forgetting the ~~? behind and realizing after he attemepted to moonwalk. 3. Shouting out to stars in the audience.. Get real Jamie. If you were any good, you wouldn’t have to egg on your peers and fans for recognition with cheap shoutouts.. and so on. BET should be embarrassed by the low budget production and low budget rappers. “BET, you’ve lost total touch with African-Americans and the definition of true talent; the numerous corny acts prior to the show, missed cues, the horrible performance by Beyonce, “what, she does classical now”… I could go on and on. Oh, MJ’s father, you are the worst person in MJ’s life. How could you plug a business and mourn your son’s death in the same breath??? That was just digusting and revolting. Your family should feel ashamed and embarressed.

I agree with all of the writers above, I was ashamed and disgusted with all the bleeps that had to be on this show. BET you are a disgrace to Black entertainment. Jamie Foxx you are a disgrace to men and the world as a whole. How dare you use this forum to promote your nonsense. MJ, King of Pop, rightly deserves more than what you shameless people gave to him. The only part that had an inkling of respect was Ne-Yo and the tribute to Alicia and Wycleff. I never watch BET because of the nonsense that goes on and you people create on TV but I thought I would this time because it was advertised as a tribute to the MJ. what was that tribute? It was so no tribute, and it was sloppy work according to my 10 year old granddaughter. It was disgraceful. What was up with Beyonce singing Ave Maria in a body suit. She looked like a clam trying to get away and very inappropriate for children to watch. Get your acts together and do a real tribute to a man who put you people on the map. Get a life people.

YOU DO NOT DESERVE TO EVEN UTTER HIS NAME.

RIP MJ, we love you and your music will live on forever.

From my granddaughter, God Bless You. I love your music and everything about you.

The show was a joy to watch and very very entertaing, but the last group act of rapper were insulting to me and I thank alot of others. Mr. Jackson was sitting there enjoying the praise this son has earned and had to listen to horrible things that was so horrible it had to be bleeped off the airing. Then to have what look like teenage girl on stage with these rappers was also very wrong. I thing somebody needs to apology to Mr. Jackson and to everybody. The sooner the better. Waiting for my apology.

Disappointed and Worried Said on

I was very disappointed in the BET awards show. Such crassness and untalented performers. That was not a tribute to MJ. CNN and other news shows gave more of a tribute than the show. Jaime Fox was disgusting and vulgar. Beyonce finally disappointed me. I cannot believe “our” BET channel would treat ourselves and Micheal Jackson in such a disrespectful manner. If other viewers and countries only had this show to see what African-Americans are about, shame on us!! We always act suprised when others put us down or think we are clowns, worthless or immoral. We do a pretty good job of ruining our own images. Many of today performers get 1 song and think they have done something!! We glorify our thuggish and immoral rappers and wonder why our children grow up like they do. Where is the talent and work ethics needed to sustain a career? If we don’t buy their mess, they would have to make real music. If the promos for some of the new tv shows coming to BET are any indication of future viewing, you can count me out. Frankie and Neffy, Ray J, Tiny, etc… Whoring for dollars. BET, I am very disappointed in you. You have a big responsibility to your community to be better. I am an adult and have been one for many years, but many of the things shown and said on your station shock, embarass and sadden me. Please take the high road and set some standards for future shows, tributes and award shows. People abide by the standards set or don’t participate. You can make that change!!!!

Although it was such short notice..I hope, like all your viewers, that you do a PROPER tribute to Michael Jackson.. And I would all love to see Usher, Chris Brown, Ne-Yo, Alicia Keys, Tamia, Gladys Knight, Justin Timberlake, Ginuwine, Joe, Keke Palmer and a few others do his songs. There wasn’t enough focus on him. Although the you wanted to do something right away because the whole world was watching, PLEASE, PLEASE, DO SOMETHING JUST FOR HIM…. I was expecting to see everyone with a white glove on at the least but was disappointed to not see that..

Carolyn Said on

I have never been so embarassed watching a T V program as I was watching the BET Awards. I cannot image any one allowing little wayne and Blake to close out a tribute to anyone or anything with the kind of performance they did. Do you (BET) realize that people all over the world will see this? SHAME ON YOU BET.

rodney Said on

BET SHOWS WAS TERRIBLE

1. I understand that you wanted to pat tribute to Michael Jackson but if you don’t have the resources to pull it off in 3 days then don’t do it. BET could have done a tribute show later.

2. I wasn’t sure if this was BET Awards show or a commercial for Jamie Foxx and his upcoming tour? Just because you host doesn’t mean you plug yourself all night.

3. Why the hell did BET let Lil Wayne do that song? You already know that it has curse words throughout and you will have to bleep almost the whole song.

The show seem so unorganized from begining to end. BET intentions were good but the show sucked.

Iceburg Mike Said on

I mostly enjoyed the show last night EXCEPT for the Drake/Lil Wayne performance near the end. For a program to be celebrating the life of Michael Jackson, to have a vulgar filled performance, where nearly half the song was beeped, was shameful. I actually left the room and came back when Janet spoke. I don’t normally have issues with performances on awards shows, not even when there are similar performances, but I felt it was in bad taste to have them perform when they did on a night celebrating the memory someone who has passed away. How do you think Joe and Janet felt listening to the F-bombs while sitting in that auditorium? I felt bad sitting on my couch at home, and I am not related to the Jackson family. I hope in the future if there is a similar event, that emotion and common sense are included in the planning of the show, and that care is taken to uphold family values on a show where there are children with easily influenced minds watching as well as adults who want to enjoy a tribute celebration with fond memories.

The bet awards show was an embarassment I felt like Micheal Jackson was disrespected!!! The cussing from the rappers and the cussing on stage with the baby boy & terrazi thing the whole thing was just ghetto and looked like it was threw together over night jamie foxx was horrible. Also I wish chris brown could’ve been there to perform as a tribute for michael because he know the dance moves and idolizes himthat would have been great. Other than that worst award show kept flipping back & forth beacuse I was so upset by some of the material!!!

Dana Said on

Let me start by saying that I hardly ever watch BET, much less the BET awards and I only caught the second half of the show (tivo’d the first half but haven’t watched it yet) . But in light of Michael’s passing, BET had a major opportunity to be the first station to pay tribute to this man who means so much to so many. And in my opinion they failed miserably, with the exception of statements made by Alicia Keyes and Wycleff Jean and the performance by Maxwell. Visually the show looked less than second rate with various sponsorship signs posted all over. Nothing wrong with sponsors, someone’s got to pay the bill!, but the professional shows have something call commercials. Next was Jamie Foxx’s tacky self promotion of his tour dates and inappropriate sexual innuendo’s. Can someone please consider the young viewers. My last comment is about the offensive rap finale with Lil Wayne, Drake, Cash $ etc… You know it’s bad when you’re hearing more bleeps that lyrics (not that the lyrics are even worth saying). And you are these young girls performing with Drake? Where are these girls’ parents? Who are these girls’ parents and they’re ok with their child being paraded on stage like props? I wanted something special and classy and touching from BET. Lord knows you have the $$ to do it, considering the attendees. BET you honored a man whose gift knew no bounds, color, race, ethnicity, yet you aimed your show at a select few…and you know who and what I’m talking about…

ronnie Said on

i understand that they changed the show last minute to pay tribute to the musical genius who is and will always be Michael Joseph Jackson, but they should have stuck with the original plan and pay tribute to MJJ in a not so rushed fashion. this is one of the reasons i don’t watch this channel. every year i watch the awards and something pisses me off. this time it was the majority of the show. ONLY neyo, ciara, maxwell, johnny, tyerse, tre songs and janet were worth my time watching. i like jamie but not last night. THE SHOW WAS HORRIFIC!!!!! they only focused on jackson five material like that was the high point of his life. what? is BET ashamed of him later in his life? i love him for everything he does, even his biggest mistakes. i have to say that pulling chris brown from the show was stupid. i don’t use that word very often but i’m so serious right now. jay z was a mess. b was just a playing dress up as the tooth fairy. will the old BET please stand up immediately!!! we need u!!!

Tonya Said on

I wish Bet would be more responsible with what the artists say, you can’t curse on 106 and park and kids watch the awards show, Lil’ Wayne and his crew with all the language and the little girls on stage was not a good look, I was so uncomfortable watching.

Ivor Said on

I CAN’T BELIEVE WHAT I’VE JUST WATCHED. ALL THOSE SOULESS, TALENTLESS, DISRESPECTFUL COPYCATS TRYING TO PUSH AND PROMOTE THEIR OWN BUSINESS AT THE EXPENSE OF A TRIBUTE TO THE KING OF POP 72 HS AFTER HIS DEATH!???????? CAN’T YOU UNDERSTAND THAT ONCE YOU DIE THIS SAME STUPIDLY SOULESS PROGRAM ALSO WON’T GIVE A S*** ABOUT YOUR DEATHS???? DISGUSTING HUMAN BEINGS. THAT PIECE OF S*** NAMED JAMMIE FOX EVEN LAUGHED AND MADE JOKES ON HIM!!!!!!!!!!! I WISH I COULD EXTERMINATE SUCH LOW-LIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SICKENING HUMAN WASTES. THIS MAN DESERVES A LOT MORE THAN THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just places
Faces
Where your blood
Comes from
Is where your space is
Ive seen the bright
Get duller
Im not going to spend
My life being a color…

Hi Im African American and no way “Michael was ours and we shared him”as Jamie Foxx says,Michael was above all,a people person no matter what.

I watched the BET awards show and I think the black community should be ashamed of themselves for claiming to love Michael. What a bunch of hypocrites! You never claimed him as one of your own until he was good and dead. Now, you call him a brother?? Your’e no better than the rest of the media. HYPOCRITES!!!!

MaeBem Said on

The BET Awards was an embarassment for the whole BLACK community! Jamie Foxx was terrible. Lil Wayne and his “posse” were silly and the “Baby Boy” act was dumb! I usually don’t watch BET; but I thought that they would do MJ justice….I was wrong!! Shame on you BET…..it was just GHETTO!!

Kay Kay Said on

Horrible, HORRIBLE show! Gansta crap. Michael would not have approved. The O’Jays and the Jackson clips and Janet were all the show had going for it. It was a horrible mess. Hopefully someone with class with do a tribute.

AJay Said on

I agree with most of you however I am not surprised. BET has been an disappointment for many years now and it is time for boycott. Love and respect starts with oneself and if we cannot love and respect our own the world will not. I feel, most, for our children because they are the audience BET caters to. They sit watching what is called” Black Entertainment” and Black Entertainment is now considered to be horrible images of black people. We are fostering a generation that clueless to our rich history of survival and triumph. BET has become the black-faced Daddy Rice of the Jim Crow era. Funny how we’ve turned on ourselves! I watched the awards for the first time because I love Micheal Jackson and thought a Black Entertainment channel would “go all out”,however I had to turn it off in disgust, missing Janet’s heartfelt speech. I do not allow my children to watch BET and every chance I get, I deter the children that I work with(I’m a teacher) from watching BET because that is not who we are. BET change your name to Entertainment Television because this is not “Black” entertainment. One last thing, Beyonce- put some clothes on. There is a time and a place to dress like that – your bedroom with your husband. If you didn’t know you can look sexy and angelic without showing everything. You had a song once on a Destiny’s Child CD called “Nasty Girl” slamming women who walk around looking nasty. I used to love playing that song and explaining it to my neices because it promotes self respect and womanly pride however after watching you the BET Awards -what do I tell them now?
