Top 10- 10 Things You WON’T See @ The 2009 BET Awards
June 27th, 2009
I can GUARANTEE you will NOT see these 10 things come Sunday night….As the 2009 BET Awards inch closer and closer, we here at BET.com would like to set some ground rules as to what you WILL not see this Sunday. Now I know, award shows are all about the surprises, the theatrics, but at some point, a line has to be drawn…an envelope doesn’t need to be pushed lol.
Of course, with Eminem having another mans tush thrown in his face at the MTV Movie Awards several weeks back, a majority of you are pondering the thought of “What will BET do to top that?” NOTHING- so don’t even ask lol.
I wanted to pump this list out several days prior, but I figured I’d wait till the ceremony got a bit closer. In jest, of course, these 10 items are in no way, shape or form geared to offend anyone at all. And if you’re familiar (you should be by now) with my commentary, you already know I’ve never have. So, without further ado, I present, The Top 10 Things You Will NOT See At The 2009 BET Awards. ENJOY!
10.) You will not see Alicia Keys & Swizz Beatz confess their undying love for each other (i.e. hit the red carpet together). With Swizzy putting a GAG order on Ms. Keys about the aforementioned issue, I’m pretty sure the two will sit on opposite sides of the auditorium. Hell, they might even go as far as arriving with their own dates. Smh, whatever happened to black love.
9.) You probably won’t see Drake announce his label home since I pretty much did it for him on this side of town. Not trying to burst his “Surprise I signed with..” bubble, but that information pretty much fell into my lap so I had no choice but to let it ooze all over the BET Awards Blog. Was I wrong?? Wouldn’t care if I was.
8.) You probably won’t see me present an award holding a Coldstones Bang Bang Boogie Milkshake while wearing an exclusive pair of SB Blazers with one of the SEXIEST Hanes White-Tee Shirts in the HISTORY of Hanes Apparel. All while standing next to Keri Hilson who has her hand in my back left pocket humming the melody to “Make Love” while we walk to the podium as she attempts to watch my sodium. And this WON’T happen only because I missed 67567657 flights Friday morning, afternoon and night because US Airways thought it would be funny to film their new reality series “Punked: The Delayed & Canceled Flights” Edition.
7.) You damn sure won’t see Rihanna and Chris Brown sitting next to each other. I’m not saying you won’t see them at the awards at all, I’m just guaranteeing you will NOT see them arrive or sit anywhere remotely close to each other.
6.) You DEFINITELY will not see any stabbings, open hand slaps, chain snatching, gun toting or weave pulling activities anywhere inside The Shrine Auditorium. I don’t care how ghetto some of these artists and their “Yes Men” maybe, I REFUSE to tolerate ANY tom foolery of the sort. And if i do…..you can bet your ASS I’m popping off on someone lol. I didn’t camp out in 3 airports over the past 48 hours to witness a bunch of FUC*ERY.
5.) You will not see or hear Lil Wayne announce bringing another crumb snatcher into this world. Assuming the rumors about him knocking up Lauren London and Nivea are valid, he’s PROBABLY doing his best to stay away from any podium tomorrow night.
4.) You will not see or hear “Auto-Tune”. See #5 for reason why.
3.) You will NOT see Shawn Corey Carter sporting THIS. I, along with everyone else who is a fan of grooming, can and will NOT tolerate this anymore. We love Jay like our very own, but it’s just not fair to our eyes, his scalp and mankind. Please Jay………..PLEASE! If you hit that stage with THIS, I just might lose it lol.
2.) You will not see Shanaynay land ass up in the lap of Young Jeezy, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, The Clipse, Pharrell, T-Pain, Soulja Boy, Nelly, Ludacris, Ne-Yo, Rick Ross, Kanye West, Fabolous or any other male hip hopper. And if you DO, I strongly suggest you DUCK!
1.) You WILL NOT see Jamie Foxx lip locking with Debra Lee. I know Foxx is the host and that pretty much gives him the green light to push every envelope, but like I said before, we’re doing this a bit different. Fantasia was shocking, Halle Berry made the male species envious, but Debra Lee???????????????? NOW THAT’S JUST WRONG!
Sincerly

THE BET AWARDS WAS A DISGRACE !!! THERE WAS SO MANY THINGS WRONG WITH IT. HOW COULD U EVEN THINK TO CALL THIS A TRIBUTE TO MJ??.WITH ALL THE VULGARITY & JAMIE’S RACIST COMMENT. “WE GAVE HIM TO THE WORLD”…UHMM MICHAELS FANS WAS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD,NOT JUST THE BLACK COMMUNITY. THE DRINKING,VULGARITY,HALF FAST SONGS,BEYONCE NEEDED TO COVER UP..EVERYTHING WAS JUST A MESS. NO ONE FORCED YOU INTO DOING A MICHAEL JACKSON TRIBUTE SO SOON. IF YOU CAN’T DO IT RIGHT DON’T DO IT AT ALL!!! I REALLY HOPE THAT BET DOES A PROPER TRIBUTE TO MICHAEL BECAUSE LAST NIGHT AWARDS WAS HORRIBLE !!! IM VERY DISSAPOINTED IN BET. I EXPECTED MORE OUT OF THE AWARDS. I FEEL SORRY FOR THE JACKSONS BECAUSE THAT WASN’T A TRIBUTE AT ALL.
i fill that was a last minute tribute on bet part if they did that in 2 days they should have had the show and did it later because it was silly.. it wasnt honoring michael jackson. jamie foxx shouldnt have used the comment how we shared him with the world.. i fill soulja boy should have NOT proformed, drake or any rappers it should have been a night of classics like diana ross, gladys knight and smokey robinson…. bet i know you can do better with the talent you got and iof anybody proform it should have been a jackson5 song or just a solo song.. keke palmer did good…chris brown should have did a tribute singing one of his songs and dancing bet im sorry that was the worst of the worst award shows…….T Pain were honoring michael jackson not your chain ok
I thought the BET awards showed sucked, in a big way. I was ashamed because I know that we are better than that. Jamie Foxx was unprepared, to say the least. If a bettter tribute to MJ could not have been done, BET should have left it alone and gone ahead as scheduled, without giving the appearance of throwing something. together. Last night’s award show was more like the VIBE magazine awards. I feel really bad for the Jackson family if that was the best that BET could offer!
Dear,
I’m ashamed and appauled by the award show. You guys showed just cancelled the whole thing and just left it at that. And having the Jackson Family is award show was bad enough they just lost one of there family members. You should left them stayed home and mourn his passing. And Janet she was too distraut I felt so bad for her.
BET YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES
My opinion Michael will leave on in our hearts forever.
But the awards show should have been cancelled.
That was the lamest BET Award show ever! The opening number was terrible, New Edition couldn’t sing if their life depended on it. What a weak ass performance. What was up with all the pausing throughout the show? It’s was like the technical director, host, and crew didn’t know what was going on!!! What a shame, because I was looking forward to watching this show too. The Nick Teen awards were even better this show, and that’s not saying much.
Terrible tribute show to Michael Jackson, i think he would have been embarrassed. Total disrespect!!!!
I watched the show last night and I have to say I was really disappointed with what BET calls a “tribute”. The show came across as last minute, half ass, and very ghetto. BET should had done a seperate show that was an all out tribute to Michael Jackson.
I was also very offended by Jamie Fox’s comments on how MJ belong to the “black community”. Where were you Jaime and other african american artists when MJ was at his lowest? Noone was standing by his side when he needed you guys the most. Michael might have come from the “black community” BUT he was TRULY loved, and cared for by his fans OFF ALL COLORS!
BET YOU REALLY DROPPED THE BALL ON THIS ONE….for God’s sake it’s Michael Jackson!
Why wasn’t Chris Brwon or Usher involved with the BET Awards. I know Borwn was having legal troubles but this was about Michael Jackson and that would of been the greatest tribute. I think BET really missed an opportunity to take it over the top with this one. And Usher really should of pushed to be involved in this. He owes his whole career to MJ.
First off I am a big jay-z fan but I’m pissed ass hell about the rumors of him having something to do w/ chris brown not performing . I am in no way condoning what chris did to rihanna but i feel like jay-z needs to deal w/ the issues in his own relationship and leave that young man alone ! He would have done such a honor to Mj I believe no one could have done it better !
It would be so nice if the BET awards could be presented without all of the negative language and profanity. There are some children watching since it comes on at 8pm. We as a people have come so far, can’t we learn to say the same thing, just using a better selection of words? We are intelligent, all of stars have money, take some English classes, broaden your mind as well a your vocabulary. We have an African American President. Its time to step up our game! Act and carry ourselves with more class, pride and dignity. If necessary take some ettiquite classes, or public speaking clases. They can all afford it! Please stop with the ghetto talk, and profanity. It sets us back! BET you should want more for your presentation!
T-Pain, you could have built a new school, recreation center or fed a small country with that ridiculous “BIG A– CHAIN” What a stupid way to spend your money, oh but it is your money!

I was also very offended by Jamie Fox’s comments on how MJ belong to the “black community and was loaned out to everyone else”. Michael might have come from the “black community” BUT he was TRULY loved, and cared for by his fans OFF ALL COLORS!

Who at BET allowed those little girls to appear on stage with that filthy act of Lil Wayne. It was disgusting. To find out that the parents of those cute little girls were Lil Wayne and T.I. made me wonder just what kind of parents they are. The act itself should have been cut, but to allow those little girls on stage to dance and girate to such filth is unforgiveable. It was bad enough to see the women in the audience mouthing the words to that bit of filth. What are we doing to our young girls. Where have we lost our self respect and how do we get it back? I am disgusted with that segment of the show. That segment made me remember why I had stopped watching the BET Awards Show.
The BET Awards show was an embarrassment to the black community. It was disgraceful, disrespectful, and common. Jamie Foxx, Ving, Lil Wayne, JayZ, Beyonce, to name a few, ALL disgraceful. As an organization that professes to be about Black entertainment, I would have thought it didn’t matter if they only had 3 days to put a tribute together. I thought black news and entertainment was the heart and soul of BET. This is what BET does. Obviously, they do not do it well. It was shameful that Beyonce HAD to be a diva and JayZ had to promote himself. Beyonce being half-naked and singing Ave Marie seemed tantamount to blasphemy. Joe Jackson was shameful. The Drake/Wayne piece was horrifying when you think that the award show was being promoted as a “tribute”. It was sad that it took Janet Jackson to put things into perspective by informing people that Michael may have been their ‘idol’, but he was the Jackson’s ‘family’. She should not have had to say that. Any intelligent person should have been able to figure it out. Kudos to Ne-Yo and Maxwell for their classy performances. The class they showed was a tribute in itself.
Okay BET. I can give the benefit of the doubt that it was last minute. But i have to say are you kidding me!?! Lil Wayne, Soulja Boy, and OMG Jamie Fox? So embarassing. Then the ones with the REAL talent Chris Brown gets pulled out? Chris you could do better honey. Don’t feel bad.
I just wanted to say that I agree with everyone in regards to the disappointment and embarrassment that I have watching the awards last night. I told myself that I was going to give my thoughts on this horrible garbage show and I’m glad to see that I was not the only one to be totally blown away at all the crap acts that were put on instead of having a dedicated show for Michael. This show was the biggest joke. My kids and watched the show last night anticipating what the tribute would be for MJ. In the past few days we watched all other channels (MTV, CNN, Dateline, VH1, etc.) have tributes for Michael and this is what BET gives us! Their was not a tribute we waited the entire show to see if they would have a finale with stars singing songs from the Jackson 5 Days on up or dancing from Justing Timberlake or Chris Brown. Debra Lee came out and told everyone that they paid their staffed worked overtime on the rearranging the show. That’s straight BULL !!
The pre show and the real show were both horrible! I will never turn on or go to any movie or program that involves Jamie Foxx. What an arrogant idiot! And the talent, except for Beyonce was just crap. Where were all the top name performers? Believe me, there will be another tribute to Michael, but BET will not be involved. This was pure trash and no talent. Sorry Michael, we know you always performed with class, but they did not respect you.
For the first time in many years, BET had an opportunity to capture a wide range of viewers to witness what was supposed to be the first televised tribute to Michael Jackson since his untimely death. Instead, BET used this as an opportunity to peddle and promote FILTH as usual.
I don’t expect BET to offer any regrets or an apology because this is what they are about – peddling and promoting FILTH at any costs.

I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE SHOW I SAW LAST NIGHT…WE AS BLACKS NEED TO RISE ABOVE SUCH DISGRACFUL DISPLAYS OF BEHAVIOR…MY FAMILY AND I HAVE WATCHED BET FOR YEARS FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT…BUT LAST NIGHT WAS NOT ENTERTAINING AT ALL…THE RAPPERS WERE HORRIBLE…ALL THE SAGGING PANT, CURSING, AND LEWD BEHAVIORS….WHY CANT WE PRODUCE A TASTFUL SHOW ESPECIALLY FOR SOMEONE AS GREAT AS THE ONE AND ONLY MR. JACKSON?????RIP MICHAEL YOU WILL BE MISSED
I enjoyed the show and appreciated Jamie foxx humor and tribute to MJ. It was the last minute – it was refreshing to see that the BET honor MJ in a positive way -the media has been terrible – MJ was the Greatest Entertainer Ever – Bet just tried to show some luv. However I 2 was disappointed with some of the vulgarity of some of the performers – Lil Wayne and Drake, Vin Rhames took the baby boy skit 2 far – I also thought more artist would acknowledge MJ. Overall Bet did the best they could with 2 days notice.
