Top 10- 10 Things You WON’T See @ The 2009 BET Awards

June 27th, 2009

I can GUARANTEE you will NOT see these 10 things come Sunday night….As the 2009 BET Awards inch closer and closer, we here at BET.com would like to set some ground rules as to what you WILL not see this Sunday. Now I know, award shows are all about the surprises, the theatrics, but at some point, a line has to be drawn…an envelope doesn’t need to be pushed lol.

Of course, with Eminem having another mans tush thrown in his face at the MTV Movie Awards several weeks back, a majority of you are pondering the thought of “What will BET do to top that?” NOTHING- so don’t even ask lol.

I wanted to pump this list out several days prior, but I figured I’d wait till the ceremony got a bit closer. In jest, of course, these 10 items are in no way, shape or form geared to offend anyone at all. And if you’re familiar (you should be by now) with my commentary, you already know I’ve never have. So, without further ado, I present, The Top 10 Things You Will NOT See At The 2009 BET Awards. ENJOY!

10.) You will not see Alicia Keys & Swizz Beatz confess their undying love for each other (i.e. hit the red carpet together). With Swizzy putting a GAG order on Ms. Keys about the aforementioned issue, I’m pretty sure the two will sit on opposite sides of the auditorium. Hell, they might even go as far as arriving with their own dates. Smh, whatever happened to black love.

9.) You probably won’t see Drake announce his label home since I pretty much did it for him on this side of town. Not trying to burst his “Surprise I signed with..” bubble, but that information pretty much fell into my lap so I had no choice but to let it ooze all over the BET Awards Blog. Was I wrong?? Wouldn’t care if I was.

8.) You probably won’t see me present an award holding a Coldstones Bang Bang Boogie Milkshake while wearing an exclusive pair of SB Blazers with one of the SEXIEST Hanes White-Tee Shirts in the HISTORY of Hanes Apparel. All while standing next to Keri Hilson who has her hand in my back left pocket humming the melody to “Make Love” while we walk to the podium as she attempts to watch my sodium. And this WON’T happen only because I missed 67567657 flights Friday morning, afternoon and night because US Airways thought it would be funny to film their new reality series “Punked: The Delayed & Canceled Flights” Edition.

7.) You damn sure won’t see Rihanna and Chris Brown sitting next to each other. I’m not saying  you won’t see them at the awards at all, I’m just guaranteeing you will NOT see them arrive or sit anywhere remotely close to each other.

6.) You DEFINITELY will not see any stabbings, open hand slaps, chain snatching, gun toting or weave pulling activities anywhere inside The Shrine Auditorium. I don’t care how ghetto some of these artists and their “Yes Men” maybe, I REFUSE to tolerate ANY tom foolery of the sort. And if i do…..you can bet your ASS I’m popping off on someone lol. I didn’t camp out in 3 airports over the past 48 hours to witness a bunch of FUC*ERY.

5.) You will not see or hear Lil Wayne announce bringing another crumb snatcher into this world. Assuming the rumors about him knocking up Lauren London and Nivea are valid, he’s PROBABLY doing his best to stay away from any podium tomorrow night.

4.) You will not see or hear “Auto-Tune”. See #5 for reason why.

3.) You will NOT see Shawn Corey Carter sporting THIS. I, along with everyone else who is a fan of grooming, can and will NOT tolerate this anymore. We love Jay like our very own, but it’s just not fair to our eyes, his scalp and mankind. Please Jay………..PLEASE! If you hit that stage with THIS, I just might lose it lol.

2.) You will not see Shanaynay land ass up in the lap of Young Jeezy, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, The Clipse, Pharrell, T-Pain, Soulja Boy, Nelly, Ludacris, Ne-Yo, Rick Ross, Kanye West, Fabolous or any other male hip hopper. And if you DO, I strongly suggest you DUCK!

1.) You WILL NOT see Jamie Foxx lip locking with Debra Lee. I know Foxx is the host and that pretty much gives him the green light to push every envelope, but like I said before, we’re doing this a bit different. Fantasia was shocking, Halle Berry made the male species envious, but Debra Lee???????????????? NOW THAT’S JUST WRONG!

Sincerly

LowYou will NOT see Ron Browz or DJ Webstar because I said SO” Key

Well well well. This show last night really was nothing close to what I expected to see. It’s like the entire show was a joke except for Maxwell and Neyo. Like I read in another comment I think MJ deserve a entire tribute and please do not have those young immature people on stage messing up things. WE WANT TO SEE A REAL TRIBUTE TO MJ!!!!!!
AND THE UPCOMING TV SHOWS BET HAVE COMING ON IN THE FALL?? SAVE IT. WE DO NOT WANT TO SEE THAT MESS. I GUESS THAT’S WHAT HAPPEN WHEN BLACK PEOPLE DON’T HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO DO.

Nice tribute to Michael with the exception of the cussing and Beyonce’s outfit while singing Ave Maria…Beyonce did a beautiful job with the song but I just didn’t get her costume choice…Thought it was in bad taste.

WOW I’m Glad I didn’t see the awards I tried my hardest because you made a big deal you were dedicated the show to Micheal but I did see the Red Carpet where Micheal’s Father made a complete ass out of himself :) Poor Micheal you wonder why he so distant and withdrawn from you people the world turned on him I withdraw to if from the age of 5 I was beat called names and people make lies about him he was proven innocent people and now he’s gone I wonder why. Fans that love him God bless you in your pain only a true fan knows why he was in pain I was a true fan I was always on his side and Will miss my man so much ~ peace

The BET Awards Show was a joke. I was so embarassed that I had to flip to other stations in order to get through it. It certainly was NOT a tribute to Michael Jackson. Jamie Foxx was unprofessional and should never be allowed to host another awards show. He used the show to promote his movie and tour and was dressed like he was going to the laundromat or attending a barbeque. The other performances were mediocre and often crude, with the exception of The O’Jays and the tribute to them by Tyrese, et al. Don Cornelius appeared to be inebriated and the hip hop performances were vulgar and inappropriate. This show…for and about the accomplishments of African Americans should be a classy affair. Fix it!!

To Michael,
We love you, are hearts are broken.

To BET,
You had a chance to honor Michael, and you failed. I expected to watch a classy tribute show, full of Michael Jackson songs, and fond memories of him. Instead, I listened to Jamie promoting his upcoming tour, and a bunch of hip hoppin’ rappers cussing on stage. Unbelievable……….and a total disappointment.

I was really looking forward to seeing the tribute to Michael Jackson on the BET Awards. I was so disappointed. Lil Wayne should be ashamed of himself. No one wanted to see his underwear or hear the profanity in the song. There should have been more of a tribute to Michael. There were lots of older people in the audience and children. It was disrespectful of his performance in front of jJoe Jackson and Rev. Shaprton. It did not seem to bother Lil Wayne about the audience he was singing to. Lots of people watched the show waiting for more of a tribute to Michael.

Tanya Said on

I am really upset with BET right now. Heard you let Jay Z bully you’ll into not letting Chris Brown perform. Chris’ performance would have been better than Jay Zzzzzzzz and BeYawnce put together. So very disappointed BET.

Like others who have posted, I too found this BET awards to be very disappointing, very disrespectful, and very inappropriate. As I watched the time go by, I kept wondering if the tribute to Michael Jackson was going to be at the end of the program. I thought it would be, and I thought it would be moving and thought provoking. Sadly, I am still wondering where was the tribute on the show. I assumed the performers would sing Michael’s songs in memory of him but alas that didn’t happen, except for Ne-Yo who has a beautiful voice. I cannot understand who BET allowed some of the language to continue on last night’s show! I was appalled when Lil Wayne came on stage with that profanity laced song. When I saw those baby girls on stage unmoved by the language I was very upset. What upset me more than that was the fact that these grown men would speak such horrible things in front of those babies, speak such language in front of an audience which included ministers, children, and Michael Jackson’s father, and speak of Miley Cyrus (another baby girl) in that vulgar and tacky song is sickening. I stated to my family as I watched the show that that performance set black people back 200 years. I could see that some people in the audience were very uncomfortable. I as an African-American woman found the BET awards to be humiliating.

BET’s Michael Jackson “tribute” was

FIASCO / JOKE / CIRCUS / DISGRACE / LETDOWN /
GHETTO BLOCK PARTY / GARBAGE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Xv83OoZSP0

was network managers HIGH?

Travis Said on

You can do better than that!! Are you serious, was that the show or a rehearsal? I watched the whole show thinking I was going to see a tribute to the king of pop, but instead I saw confusion. This man elevated black entertainers to the next level and that is how you decided to celebrate his accomplishments. BOOOOO you guys really need to think about your material. Also the whole thing about Jackson being a black guy and you shared him with us, you can keep that to your darn self, Michael was a member of the human race and should not be called out as a color give me a break guys, you have a black president can you give it a rest.!

Michelle Said on

I agree with the majority of the previous comments posted. What a disappointing show. The so-called tribute left me feeling empty and confused. I felt extremely embarrassed knowing many people from different cultures probably tuned in to see a tribute to Michael Jackson only to see the same stereotypical ignorance that makes them form negative judgements about us in the first place. BET, you should really feel ashamed of yourselves!

Michelle Said on

BET, you should be ashamed of yourselves. That show was an embarrassment to black people as a whole!

leesa lee Said on

more like the Fox TV network last evening instead of BET… who was the dedication for again…all i saw was Jamie i wish i was Michael Jackson Fox…more bleeps than words…more racial innuendos than anything i have heard in years…he should be color blind like me then he would not always refer to black and white. but people..we are all created by God and therefore we are all same…thought we was moving forward but Fox set us back centuries…watched for the tribute but didn’t see it…i enjoy BET as I do other networks for there professionalism…what happened last night…best part was Keys acceptance speech…beautiful honest woman…who cares, not about the color but the need….we should all just get over ourselves….Michael was the most talented gracious soft spoken non violent…non vulgar… colorblind person… he was ever admired and loved nation wide due to these qualities…he would have hated last evenings show…blew this one…BET

T Anthony Said on

DEBRA LEE PLEASE STEP DOWN…BET IS AN EMBARASSMENT TO BLACK PEOPLE.

THE BET AWARDS SHOW WAS HORRIBLE, VULGAR AND DISRESPECTFUL TO THE MEMORY OF MICHAEL JACKSON.

WE NEED TO CONSIDER BOYCOTTING THIS DEMEANING NETWORK…WE WOULDN’T ALLOW WHITE PEOPLE TO PORTRAY BLACK PEOPLE THIS WAY SO WHY ALLOW US TO DO IT TO OURSELVES!

A.L. Said on

My mother, husband, and I agree that THIS WAS THE WORST BET AWARD SHOW. It was primarily sloppy and ghetto. The profanity, revealing clothing, and lack of talent were embarrassing. I am awestruck that you (BET) could not feature better artists. Michael was a PERFECTIONIST. He owned the stage every time. You should have given a tribute show at a later date to display Michael’s outstanding legacy. The world watched this awful BLACK show. I bet you that MTV will respectfully honor Michael and his family during their award show. BLACK PEOPLE, WE MUST IMPROVE! I will always love you Michael and the Jackson family! Rest in God’s loving arms!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Terribly Disappointed Said on

That was honestly the WORST tribute I’ve ever seen a television network do in my life. I was so offended when Jamie Foxx said that black people owned MJ… no one race owned Michael Jackson, thank you. He was universal and his music belonged to everybody. And when that guy came on stage and took off his belt and was pretending that he was going to beat that other guy with it, how rude and absolutely disrespectful considering MJ was beat as a kid! And don’t even get me started on that stupid alcohol song and all the rappers cussing all throughout the show. If you didn’t have the time to do a decent tribute, you shouldn’t have done one at all BET. Shame on you for this and for even inviting Janet to this disaster.

Angel Said on

I didn’t watch the awards this year. I only saw Janet saying words…and the little I saw of Ne-Yo, I loved. That rap with Lil Wayne was a joke.

When you hire an off the wall comedian, you should understand what you are getting. When you put a trick on television that can’t complete a sentence without expletive, you should be fired. BET, you owe us a public apology. You knew the viewership would be enormous because of the respect that the entire world has for Michael Jackson. Yet, you allowed this charade to go forward. It’s irksome that we can’t go to work and dialogue with decent people about what a wonderful job BET did for MJ. I am ashamed of BET and all the fools that couldn’t clean up their language for the TRIBUTE. Now, that’s keeping it real. It appears that all you care about is making money and not the respect, refinement, and uplifting of our people.

Last nights awards show further confirms the stigma that is attached to black people… Never in my life have I seen such baffoonery and coonery in a 3 hour time slot than what I witnessed last night!!! Michael Jackson would be rolling in his grave!!! Can’t wait to see the homage and RESPECT that MTV and the Grammys will pay to the King of Pop!!! The antics displayed last night was unbelievable… I am amazed but not surprised… BET needs to be revamped COMPLETELY!!! Your company consistently degrades and demoralizes blacks people and you continue to pump in that nonsense day in and day out… and then you wonder WHY black people can’t rise?!?!?! For goodness sake… show some class and stop constantly demeaning your people!!! Last night was the last time that I will EVER watch your channel… you all should be ashamed of yourselves!!! Where the hell was the tribute to Michael Jackson… where was it?????????? Unbelievable…. and yet I’m not surprised!!!!!
