Valentines Day Mixtapes… The Prelude

February 8th, 2011

With less than a week before the world day of love and so many mixtapes dropping on Valentines Day, I thought I would prepare everyone by making a list of ones you should all get ready for. The best part about this list is that most of them are FREE!!! I’m sure there are a few that even I may have missed so make sure you hit me in the comments with any others.

1. Tyler Woods The Mahogany Experiment

Named one of Singersoom.com Artist to Watch in 2011 and his mixtape The Mahogany Experiment is being presented by Grammy Award winning producer 9th Wonder. Go HERE to check out the first single “Lost In Your Love.”

2.Trina Save Tha Best 4 Last

If you don’t have her last album Amazin’ you really slept on a great project. Hands down her best album to date. I’m still waiting on the label to smarten up and drop Dang a Lang featuring Lady Saw and Nicki Minaj as a single. Trina seems to only be getting better and I’m hoping this mixtape will be a continued progression for her. She recently remixed Dirty Money “*ss On The Floor.” Check it out below.
3. Chester Gregory If U Only…The Mixtape First a big congrats is in order. He just got off a year long national tour playing James Early in Dreamgirls and now he’s playing Eddie in Sister Act on Broadway. Definitely a double threat and we’re blessed he took time away from his busy acting schedule to bless us with some new music. Along with his If U Only…The Mixtape he will be releasing the video to his first single “If U Only” on Valentines Day as well. Take a listen to the single below. 4. Torch UFO Signed to Maybach Music Group and part of Rick Ross’ group Triple C’s this mixtape is probably the most gangsta of all those dropping on the day of love. With the list of guest appearances on the picture above it looks like it’s going to be a good one. Check out the first single from the project “Got Doe” featuring Crooked I and Cassidy below. 5. Josh Xantus Love Child Another Singersroom.com Artist to watch for 2011 and it seems like he puts out a new mixtape every other month. I am not complaining. On Valentines Day he will drop Love Child and although he has dropped several singles from the project already, here is the latest “So What’s Up.” 6. Jazzy Letters to a King In the past her sound has been too pop for me but with her new mixtape Letters to a King that will consists of remakes, it seems as if it’s going to be pure soul. She’s another Singersroom.com Artist to watch in 2011. Of the tracks released from the project thus far, The Roberta Flack classic “Feel Like Making Love”  featuring BJ the Chicago Kid is my favorite. I love their voices together and kinda wish BJ was dropping a mixtape of his own next week as well. Listen below.

7. Lil’ Kim Black Friday Seeing as though Valentines Day is a Monday this year… and people are usually partial to the color RED more so than the color BLACK this date choice seems a bit weird to me but nothing Lil’ Kim has done in the past year has really made too much sense so I’m going to just roll with it and hope this project can resurrect her career. Unfortunately I don’t think this project will be FREE although it should be the reason I listed it here. Not sure if her remix of the Kanye West and Jay-Z song H.A.M. will be on it or not but you can listen below. 8. Kevin McCall Un-Invited Mixtape K-Mac as some know him by is a singer, songwriter, producer, and rapper that has worked with everyone from Chris Brown, Keri Hilson, Kanye West, Drake, the list really goes on. Remember that huge Chris Brown come back record called “Deuces.” Yeah Tyga was one of the people featured and K-Mac was the other. I’m looking forward to this mixtape to see if this cat is going to show he can stand on his own or if it’s going to be loaded with features. Below check out “Freaky I IZ” that was released about a month ago as one of Swizz Beatz Monster Monday releases but is rumored to live on the Un-Invited Mixtape as well.

9. Nikki Grier Soulgasm Vol.6

Signed to my industry Big Bro Busta Rhymes label Conglomerate Records and has written and lent vocals for everyone under the sun including Dr. Dree, 50 Cent, Raphael Saadiq, Michael Jackson, Brandy… the list goes on. She brings that soul music from the gut over hip hop beats. I’m excited for the release of her Soulgasm Vol.6 EP. Below is the video for her single “Broke My Heart.”

10.Dondia Dondria Duets Vol. 2 A mixtape where she puts a spin on some of the hottest records on radio right now. She’s already released “Fall For Your Type” and “No Bull Sh*T” and here is the latest leak from the tape “You Be Killin’ Em”

11. Rich Girl Fall In Love With Rich Girl

The girl group consisting of four members, Audra, Brave, Lyndriette and SeVen and was formed with the help of one of my favorite producers, Rich Harrison. On the first offering from the mixtape they cover Lloyd’s “Lay It Down.” Check it out below.
