Vince Gill Vs. Kanye

February 11th, 2008

Maybe the new Clash of the Titans (doubtful). Since we were on Kanye watch, we should mention when Vince Gill accepted his Award and borderline checked Kanye’s ego. “I just had an Award given to me by a Beatle….you ever have that happen to you, Kanye.” Kanye laughed though.  Poor Kanye, he’s officially the target.

I think if anyone were to check Kanye’s ego, it should be someone like Vince Gill. Vince is probably the nicest guy in Country music and no one would suspect that he was dissing Kanye, but maybe giving him a reality check. Kanye is amazing, but needs to turn it down a notch.

I totally agree. Kanye continues to expect to be the best over all artist in the world and that just plain old takes some time. In most cases, it may not even happen during his time as an artist. My gut feeling is it will come when he stops expecting it. That’s when things are better appreciated. It’s not a racist or genre thing….it’s a “journey” he has to embrace.

Now, I do’t like Kanye West (never have actually) but, who is Vince Gill to even make a statment like that and, who gives a s&#$ about getting an award from a Beatle?

Kanye seems to believe his own press. Hwen he sells as many records worldwide as say a : Michael Jackson”, then maybe he will go down in history as one of the greatest.

This was one great moment in Grammy history… Vince Gill delivered a beautiful jab at a kid who by anyone’s standards deserved it. Trust me, I feel for KW in his time of grief, because grief is a very real and very deep emotional state. But he seems to take himself way over the top serious, unless I’m overlooking something here. Anyway, kudos to Vince who laid that out for all to see last night.. gotta love that. Especially coming from someone as gentle and kind and respected in the industry known as music… A good dose of humility is good for the diet, Kanye…

Kanye as well as many of today’s artists have this “divatude” where they have to go out tooting their own horn every chance they get and get upse when they arent recognized. Kanye is a brilliant producer but rap is most definitely not his cup of tea. My 5 year old has better lyrics than some of his. Recognition is best accepted from others, not yourself, Kanye. I agree with rcf, you can definitely learn from a humble artist how to handle your status.

@tiredofexcuses

I agree. I think Kayne isn’t as good as he thinks he is. Plus,I am in the minority,I don’t think his song to his mother was “all that”. I could have written a better song and I’m not really into rap.

well well well i THOUGHT WE WERE GONNA SE SOME CENSORED STUFF ON THE GRAMMYS. IS IT ME OR IS KANYE ALWAYS STARTING MESS. THATS WHY THEY THINK BLACK FOLKS IS IGNORANT. WHY HE JUST COULDNT STAY CIVIL I DONT KNOW. WHEN THEY STARTED PLAYING MUSIC ON KANYE TO GET OFF THE STAGE HE GOT RUDE AND TOLD THEM TO STOP THE MUSIC WHICH THEY DID IN A HURRY. ITS FUNNY HOW THEY DID THAT SO QUCIK NOT WANTING ANOTHER SNL EPISODE. IF KANYE DONT STOP HE WILL GET BANNED FROM LIVE TV. I PROMISE YOU HE WILL. BUT I LOVE THE MAMA SONG.

Kanye just needs for life to smack him across the face (HARD…) a few times to smack some humility in him. He’s just arrogant for no good reason. Hundreds have walked across the Grammy stage hundreds of times more talented than him and with only a hundreth of his level of arrogance. He can be the best lyricist or rapper or producer in the world but with an attitude like that I find it impossible to respect him.

Who is Vince Gill ? Oh, just the most awarded country singer in the hisatory of awards .Kanye West and Amy Winehouse weren’t the only nominees for Grammy album of the year .Vince was responding to the comment Kanye made about who deserved to win it . It was all in fun (kinda :) .With the exception of Vince’s win for Country Album of the year , in my opinion , it was the highlite of the show .

As a long time fan of country singer Vince Gill, I am not surprised that Vince got the better of Kanye West. Vince is a master of singing and of applying humor at the approriate times. Way to go, VG!

Vince Gill’s talent is equaled only by his kindness, modesty, and generosity of spirit. He’s known for his gentlemanly ways and for the manner in which he supports all artists, especially the young ones. When the Dixie Chicks were being demonized, he was one of the very few who bravely stood up for their right to speak their mind in spite of the risk to his own career. He’s a man of integrity first and foremost- so if Kanye was one of the very few who received a gentle but pointed reprimand, he should probably take it to heart…

If Vince had gotten the award from a Beetle with talent, maybe his comment would have meant more….

“If Vince had gotten the award from a Beetle with talent, maybe his comment would have meant more….”

How are you qualified to judge the talent of a Beatle when you can’t even SPELL it?! I don’t think you actually know what you are talking about so chew on this:

From Wikipedia:

The Beatles are THE best-selling musical group in HISTORY.

According to the Recording Industry Association of America, The Beatles have sold more albums in the United States than ANY OTHER band.

In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked The Beatles NUMBER ONE on its list of 100 Greatest Rock & Roll Artists of All Time. According to that same magazine, The Beatles’ innovative music and cultural impact helped define the 1960s, and their influence on pop culture is still evident today.

Now… neither Vince Gill nor Kanye are Rock & Roll artists. But I would bet my life’s earnings that neither Vince nor Kanye will EVER be number one in their respected fields DECADES after they stop making music.

And I, for one, think it was far more fitting that Ringo give the award rather than the corpse of John Lennon.
