Sup folks. Throughout this season of Sunday Best, we’ve met some great singers that had to go home. One of them was “mr. bowtie” himself, Brian Smith.  Aside from his characteristic bowtie, Brian had one of the best pure voices this season. What I mean is, the pure sound of his voice before any added colors, trick, etc, was PHENOMENAL.  A meal is only as good as the raw ingredients, so to start with a voice like Brian’s must make for good cooking. (That was so corny but it made me laugh so I’m leaving it, lol) Well, just like I did with other past contestants who have gone home, I’m letting Brian speak to you in his own words.

What’s up Torrence?! I hope all is well. Thanks so much for extending the opportunity to share my experience. I’d first like to say, thanks to God for calling me for such a time as this. Thanks to BET for the opportunity to show the world what I love to do. Sunday Best is AWESOME! Thanks to the judges and mentor (Pastor Donnie, Tina, Yolanda, and Kim) for the encouragement, honesty and motivation. Thanks to all of the supporters who prayed and continue to pray for me. Their thoughtfulness let’s me know I am loved. I’d like to send a shout out to my family and extended families in Memphis, TN (my birthplace). A special shout out to my church family in Chicago, Covenant United Church of Christ. Thanks to my immediate family for the love and prayers. If I neglected to mention anyone, please charge it to my mind, not my heart. For me, Sunday Best is a GREAT resource to display my love of God, worship, and music. Not to gain fame or jump start a music career. Gospel music is about saving souls so it’s hard to be sad with the judges outcome b/c I’d lose sight of God’s purpose for me. I was saddened by leaving my new family. Even though we’re in different places. I appreciate the fact we remain in contact with and support each other. I have learned so much and formed lasting friendships w/ the 19 other contestants as a result of Sunday Best. I love you guys! The icing on the cake is, MILLIONS viewed me doing what I was created to do. And that is the biggest a blessing. So to sum it all up, as the hymn (“He Will Carry You Through”) says, “each victory will help you, some other to win!” Sunday Best is about the 3 E’s: excitement (about God, music, & worship), exposure (to people and to new information), and the experience (once in a lifetime)! Be encouraged always as I remain:

Yours In Christ,

Brian Wesley Smith

I was saddened to see Brian leave, but I sure did enjoy him while he was on the show. I also taped it so I can watch over and over :) I also enjoyed Tiffany this week, but I especially enjoyed LeAndria– you can see God all over that girl! When Kim said she was scared I thought to myself, “maybe she is in the practice room, but it is evident that God takes over when LeAndria hits that stage!” Hugs to all and God Bless…

There is something to be said about a man using his gifts and talents to please God. Brian was my favorite contestant on this season of Sunday Best. His voice is so pure and clean. He showed you don’t have to holla through a song to be heard. I wish him much success. I hope he puts out an album soon. I would purchase 10 copies.
