The Gospel Community Continues to Remember Walter HawkinsPublished by Torrence Glenn on Monday, July 19, 2010 at 5:34 pm.
As the gospel community continues to prepare for the musical tribute and funeral for Bishop Walter Hawkins, members of the gospel community to remember and honor him. And yes, I had to put up a throwback photo! The hair! yes! ha!
Walter Hawkins redefined gospel music as we know it. His music is timeless and will bless the masses for ever!
“… Bishop Walter Hawkins was the embodiment of a true icon. His music is a treasure chest of classics! I am grateful to God that I got a chance to work with him. He will definitely be missed but his music will continue to live on!!”
There will never ever be another one like him. I’ve loved him from the very 1st time I came to meet him. I loved his kindness and his songs.
My first memories of Gospel music was sitting on the floor and staring at the album “The Hawkins Family Live” and being entranced by the music. I was so young but had no idea the profound affect it was having on me as a child. I remember hearing “Love Is God” and how at the end of the song the harmony was so full and tight! I recognized how incredible “The Hawkins” sound was back then. And to think now that Walter Hawkins wrote some of my favorite songs to date by one of my favorite female artists Tramaine just gives me chills. There is nothing better than hearing Walter & Tramaine on a duet…nothing like it! Walter Hawkins will truly be missed but I am so happy that the world still has the privilege to experience the “ultimate tenor” every day through his gift of song. Walter Hawkins and the whole Hawkins family have been and will continue to be an inspiration to me and what I do.

All of these tributes by some of the biggest names in the gospel community show you just how truly influential he was and how much he will be missed. Make sure you come back tomorrow for my official “tribute.” I think I can finally finish it now. *heavy sigh*
