Listen Up!: Jonathan Nelson

So one of the releases I’m really excited about this week is the new CD from Jonathan Nelson and Purpose “Better Days.” A few months ago we premiered his first single “Expect The Great” on the blog and you guys went CRAZY for it. It’s a dope track and I have to admit, I’ve been listening to the CD for a few weeks now and so is the CD.

What I love about Jonathan’s music and this CD in particular is that he finds a way to combine gospel, choir music and praise and worship together. That’s pretty difficult to do. Actually, no I take that back. It’s easy to do, people do it ALL the time. The difficult part is to do it and have it be good. Jonathan has managed to do a great job and the CD bumps. Also, his singers “Purpose” are singing seriously on this one. Just listen to the squalling they do on “Expect The Great” and the precise and super clean “bends” on “Another Way.”

As a former Minister of Music/Choir Director, it’s really good to find music you can’t just listen to but can actually  use. Your praise team and church choir is sure to be singing material from this CD and if they’re not, call me and I’ll come teach ya because he/she needs to be fired anyway! Ok, let me stop. Take a listen and let me know what you think here’s a few of the tracks that stand out for me.

1. Better Days – it’s just fun and a great way to open a CD

2. I Am Your Song – this is just an absolutely beautiful anthem song and guaranteed to take you in if you let it. Bring sheets and plenty of tissue with you.

3. Another Way – iadypoypauyqpy8oaehihioa p9q8yipsdhl;ayodfi[ajl;jkl;aj a9upih;ank;  piouea;dk a;hkda; fdj;a My apologies, my fingers went up into and unknown language. Purpose, Jonathan and his brother, one of the most dynamic singers of this generation, Jason Nelson will sing you under the table on this one. Not even gonna keep talking about it, just get ready to to be laid out for a good little while.

4. Expect The Great – you already know!

5. Performance – it’s a “whole lotta song” and Kierra “KiKi” Sheard sings all up and through it!

Listen and tell me what you think. What are your fav’s. *in my Dawkins & Dawkins voice* “I need to know, need to know, need to know now.” Ha! And you know the rule, if you like it BUY IT!
