TGIP: “I Need A Word” – Beverly Crawford feat. Trina Crawford

Sup folks.
Not sure if you’ve noticed but I’ve been a bit “quiet” lately. If you follow me on twitter or are friends of mine on Facebook, you’ll probably notice the last substantial status message I left went a little something like “UGH!!!!!!!!!!! bye y’all!” and that was it. After that I may have posted some links to some blog posts (new Donald Lawrence music, Malinda Sapp’s passing, etc.) and that was that.
Yes; crazy, funny, wacky, outgoing etc. “Torrence G” (as everyone calls me now due to my twitter name typo that stuck) sometimes hits a rough patch and has to navigate through some things. Had I stayed on the various social networks I’m pretty sure I would have snapped on someone and said something I couldn’t take back. As a matter of fact I’m pretty sure I did go off on a few buddies. It just gets that way sometimes as we can all testify to. So yeah, I took a little break from “people” to “heal” and deal with ME! It happens!
Well today’s “Thank God It Played” fell right in line with what I’m going through and I figured I’d share. One thing I’ve learned, especially in the last 10 years, is that many times I’m ALLOWED to deal with or go through certain things because my getting through them not only helps me in some way but other folks get helped in the process too. Whether it’s the young people that call me mentor, or a story I tell in an interview and somebody stops me and says “thank you for……” Even the stuff I get beat up for (i.e., admitting that I’ve at times questioned the concept of Hell in my Carlton Pearson interview) or could be embarrassed by somehow connects me with the right people who needed to hear or see that very thing from me. God is dope like that.
So to that end, today’s song is called “I Need A Word” and it’s on Beverly Crawford’s new CD “Live In Los Angeles Vol. 2″ that comes out on Tuesday, September 14. Beverly however, doesn’t sing on the song. It features a young lady named Trina Crawford (assuming it’s her daughter but not certain) who sings this short and simple song in such a way that I couldn’t help but lose it. It’s almost as if this girl knew me! Ha! It really blessed me, hoping it blesses you. I’m even gonna print the words after the song so you can really get it. Enjoy. Go in. Do what you do. Just listen…
It’s me again
Coming to You not for material things
Not for fortune nor fame
Just one simple request
Not for a new house
Not for a new car
But I need a word
I need a word
My heart has been broken
So many times before
Many people I trusted
They walked out the door
When I’m in need of guidance
You never left me
Now I’m in need of direction
And I really need Your help
Not for a new house
Not for a new car
But I need a word
Not for some new shoes
Not for the latest news
But I need a word
Not for fortune or fame
Not for everybody to know my name
But I need a word from You
Not for some new clothes
Not for materials
But I need a word
I need a word
Ok, that’s it for emo Torrence. LOL I think I’ll be back soon. Love ya!
