TGIP: “He Loves Me” – Isaac Simpson & Divine Providence featuring Nikki Ross (@thenikross_show)Published by Torrence Glenn on Monday, November 8, 2010 at 4:44 pm.
Sup folks. Hope you had a great weekend! Today’s “Thank God It Played” track kind of caught me out the blue. As I’ve explained before, it’s not often that I listen to music in the standard way. You know, where you put a CD in and listen to it from start to finish. It’s just a habit I’ve gotten out of. I typically just put my music library on “shuffle/random” and let whatever plays play. I joke a lot that my iPod has the Holy Ghost because it always seems to know just what to play and when. That’s why it’s been nicknamed “iPostle.”
Well, when you have thousands of songs on one device, it’s easy for a CD to get lost in the shuffle (no pun intended but it works.) Well today, a song from Isaac Simpson and Divine Providence (DP)’s debut CD “Right Now” came on and I forgot how much I loved it. It features Nikki Ross, a gospel fan favorite feature vocalist over the last few years. I think Nikki has always been a phenomenal vocalist and her range and “tricks” have made her an artist that folks have been looking forward to a solo project from for a long time. (She’s working on it by the way.) Well the reason I like this particular track so much is that in my opinion, Nikki sounds a little different than she normally does. Not that she ever sounds bad but this is different. I’d almost venture to say that she may be a little hoarse, and because of that it forces her to sing with a different kind of intent and there’s a level of restraint that I love. Like I said she’s always good but something about this performance is exceptional. Divine Providence does a pretty excellent job of backing her up as well. It’s an easy tune to “over sing” and they don’t. I love that.
Take a listen to “He Loves Me” by Isaac Simpson & Divine Providence featuring Nikki Ross and tell me what you think. *Call the ushers!*
